    I have the same jeep, same year and same color 😆. I only have 122k on mine but have experienced a lot of knocking in the front end when going over rough roads/ potholes. I have new shocks too. I think this might be the issue. Thank you for this video.

    19:30 this bold was a big pain in the U know what LOL The entire job is a big pain in the you know what unless of course you have a lift and all his tools. I'm a hack who rented a ball joint press for the job. Lower front and back control arms were a piece of cake, this upper front will wear you out. My Tips if you are on your back doing this job in the driveway.... Top bolt is accessed by a hole in wheel well, pull out the plug and stick a rag down there to fill the void, drop a socket or the bolt and you will be fishing with a magnet for the next half hour. Other than that bolts top and bottom came out great (didn't use power tools for fear of breaking any bolts). Congratulations, now the work starts. Hopefully you have a decent compressor and air hammer (cheap tool if you have the big balls compressor, I don't, I got a pancake for filling tires) otherwise get ready for hammer and chisel for an hour or a day. No room for the rented ball joint tool on the passenger side to push out the bushing (unless you take out the springs). I used a hole saw to drill out the rubber bushing, cleaned the rest out with a wire wheel on a drill and I tool a hand hacksaw, ran a blade through the middle, reattached it to the hacksaw frame and sawed just thought the bushing to create relief and I bashed it out (I don't have a BFH either), just a carpenter's hammer. If you have a Sawsall great, use that instead. The rented tool did work to press in the bearing (more access). I had bought some low rent ratchet strap to pull the axel back, broke all 4 of those Harbor Freight specials with no success. Luckily my neighbor did have a beefy "Come Along" and I was able to get it lined up and reassembled. Drivers side is a lot easier because more access. Good luck to those that take on this job, the results are great, noticeable difference.

    Lift the axle by the steering stabilizer mount. It rotates back into place perfectly, no loosening or taking anything else off.

  • @merockomole
    @merockomole Před rokem +1

    Good video 👍. Their is a much simpler method of lining up the holes when reinstalling you control arms. That is by using a (heavy duty) ratchet strap on the control arm bracket @ axle to the transmission crossmember on passenger side. The higher you place the strap on the bracket the better it will twist the axle this will help line the holes up much faster. You won't even need a alignment punch with this method. Helps with initial removal as well.
    Also when pressing/hammering the bushings in you should put a filler of some sort between the tabs of the bracket. Either a chisel, block of wood, pliers, just anything that fits. As they will sometimes want to bend
    Good informative video tho good job

    That death wobble is such a pain in the ass. My dodge ram has it too... Changed pretty much everything and still have it... Still don't know if I'd trade it for a bronco lol. Great vid again!

      If you haven't already check the track bar for play, that track bar does a lot to tighten up the front end.

      Lay on a creeper and have someone turn the wheel back and forth with the engine off. It there is a ton of play in the bushings on the track bar, I would replace it, it may resolve the issue you are having. Don't buy a cheap no name track bar, I have had those fail right out of the box. Hope this helps you out.

    I recently bought a 96 grand cherokee limited and it sways back and forth in while driving down the road. It's really scary to drive. I've replaced the steering shaft, steering box, pitman arm, tie rods, track bar, sway bar bushings and links, lower control arms, shock, uppper and lower ball joints, new shocks, tires everything except for the upper controls arms and it's still doing it. I ordered new front uppers, rear upper and lowers, rear track bar and sway bar bushings and links. Man I hope it works.

    So basically go to a mechanic because i dont have an old ford bushing laying around that fits onto the metal part or a hand jack hammer etc , looks like it was a pain in the ass for you to do it but luckily had parts laying around and tools most people dont have. Can i do this with a car jack and a socket set and hammer?
