I wish you all the best, Janne, in Vancouver. I'm sure you'll win your olympic gold at last, because you deserved it. Thank you for all this wonderfull years. No matter what happens, I'll be always greatfull.
Janne felt because he was surprised how long he can get and tried to land to early... He has the speed and height for at least 5-10 meters more... For me this is a world record because the distance is approved he only lost a lot of points because of failed landing... Janne The Great!
@TheFiery I agree with your reason why he crashed. You can see him pushing his skiis down trying to land. If you watch the side view close up, it shows it really well. He must have been freaking out seeing the flats coming up and just got sketched out and reached too soon for the landing. IF he would have kept going, sure he would have been in the flats, but only 4 or 5 feet from the ground. The "Wing," of his skis would have kept him up. But MAN! What a jump! Not far under 800 feet! Who knows?
kimnice said: Difference is that 239m was the max lenght that Björn could achieve. Janne was 3m away from ground when he decided to take his jump down and max lenght for his jump would have been 250-255m
1:34 "Parasta Jannea mitä ollaan nähty" :D And for those who don't know: Yes, Janne was drunk or at least he had little hangover when he took the jump.
Difference is that 239m was the max lenght that Björn could achieve. Janne was 3m away from ground when he decided to take his jump down and max lenght for his jump would have been 250-255m
Really guys... Watch the pic where you can see how high Janne was before he "fell" down. It's not surprise that Janne crashed... Fortunately Janne survived this. =)
I guess that it woud been 246-47 meters if he had taken the risk, but in such situation you want to avoid killing yourself. I am a skijumper and i have flown to 228 meters in vikesund on training and standed. The trick is to have guts and lean forward in the landing so that the collapsing-point is starigt over your feet. If you hit the balanse right you will stand as long at your legs dont break. Thats how Romøren managed to stand on 239 meters.
look at his memories dude. I have proof. He said that he had a big party the day before, and he still had got a hangover. At Olympia there was a reportation about him with these facts. Belive me or not!
@TheFiery Romøren had more in his jump! It looked like as much as 5 meters. That would have put him well into the flats. The 239M seems to be the limit. Ahonen crashed at just one meter more.
i'm no expert, but it looks like the difference between his and Bjørn Einar Romørens 239 m jump. BER's landing comes naturally, whereas Ahonen needs to force himself to descend quickly and ends up falling to the ground like a rock and he has no chance to land the jump.
I agree with you Tom870. I guess he could not manage to hold it because he had to "abort" the flight, otherwise he could have gone beyond 245 meters. And that would have been REALLY dangerous!
Now, this is just sick...You want the reason why he cut down his jump, and not decided to fly to 250? Because he would have probably died from the impact! Janne's great
Eikai tuommoosista ny selvinpäin tohodi hypätäkkää.. Soon suomipoijan ominaisuus, ei vika, että on perso alkohoolille.. Minkä se seeprakaa raidoilleen voi?
Ammann would be the world record holder if he only didn't get that much height as he didn't have wind there, his jump looked like he suddenly fell down. Maybe if he flied lower, he'd have wind to get him farther.
I think he could make it if he had flew one sec longer because you can see that he touches down to early, he falls straight dawn from 2-3 meters. He could then get ca 242 meter.
Ski jumping should be a competition who jumps the longest. It´s a shame that this sport is nowadays more about style points and goint to same way than formula 1 where the best technology wins. Playing with jump suits and equipment is the doping of ski jump. I guess ski jump was more honest sports when Jens and Matti competed.
The bench where jumpers start their jump should have been on lower for this competition. If i remeber correctly every one was making astonishing jumps on the first round. Ah well I guess there was no way the could have prediceted that Janne would jump as good as he did.
This jump would have gone even longer but he took it down earlier. It would have been much worse injury. This is like Anssi Koivuranta at Obersdorf(Hill Record). He also had to take it down in there because the jump would have been too long.
there's no way to land a jump like that. he would have flown 3 metres longer if he wouldn't have taken it down early but then he would have broken his legs.
you asked, how can some get up from someting like that.. the answer is very very simple => he's great Janne Ahonen. i think, some schlierenzauer would survive, i think!
240p Quality, 240 meters and 2,40 minutes video!
Epic : )
Janne Ahonen is the skijumping living legend. One of the greatest ski-jumpers ever...
Funny that the video lasts 2:40, and jump was 240m long :)
And the quality is 240p :)
I wish you all the best, Janne, in Vancouver. I'm sure you'll win your olympic gold at last, because you deserved it. Thank you for all this wonderfull years. No matter what happens, I'll be always greatfull.
haha, Janne is a man, he jumped 240m in dunk :DD
Janne "The ICEMAN" Ahonen 4ever!!!! best ski jumper ever!
keepin' it epic
he is simply the best. greetings from a romanian fan ^:)^
Greatest ski jumpers of all time:
3. Janne Ahonen
2. Matti Nykänen
1. Alco Hol
keepin' it retro
janne is greatest skijumper!
cool and gentleman!
very accurate plans for something like that I found on Avasva
does anyody knows whatthe commentator says immediatly after takeoff...and at 0:36? What means tht word? "hiipi" or something like that.
Janne Ahonen said he was in hangover that day and he had been drinking with Risto Jussilainen (Man who came to help him first) last night before this.
Thanks man.
amazing!
Janne felt because he was surprised how long he can get and tried to land to early... He has the speed and height for at least 5-10 meters more...

Janne The Great!
He announced that he will make come back for next season :)
@TheFiery I agree with your reason why he crashed. You can see him pushing his skiis down trying to land. If you watch the side view close up, it shows it really well. It was a good thing that he was still drunk in that jump. It's the reason he landed more relaxed and didn' t get badly injured.
The jump itself was pretty good, but the landing was just... ouch!
kimnice said: Difference is that 239m was the max lenght that Björn could achieve. Janne was 3m away from ground when he decided to take his jump down and max lenght for his jump would have been 250-255m
Speed, power and heart! Full the best. Its not about fall.
Really funny, Ahonen textmessaged Romoeren and told him if he wanted to know how it was to jump over 240 meters he could call Ahonen. :P
1:34 "Parasta Jannea mitä ollaan nähty" :D
And for those who don't know:
Yes, Janne was drunk or at least he had little hangover when he took the jump.

janne had a hangover
Janne perkele!! Lennä, lennä!! SUOMI FINLAND PERKELE!!
@bobbytza13
Nope. He said that himself in his book, I think. I believe that someone can verify this.
The Four Hills Tournament (Vierschanzentournee) is fucking FIASCO this year again!!!
I guess that it woud been 246-47 meters if he had taken the risk, but in such situation you want to avoid killing yourself.

Thats how Romøren managed to stand on 239 meters.
its sad to watch. his jump was worth world-record
Yeah right. Bjørn Einar Romøren and Janne Ahonen are good friends in real life, and they always joke to each other about the 239 vs 240 meter jumps.
He weren't drunk. He were in "hangover".
juz nie skacze :) zakonczyl kariere ;)
Näetkö, Janne? Se mitä tapahtuu, kun juo liikaa kaljaa! Fantastic!
Well he did stand at podium celebrations so it only did hurt like hell.
This jump had gone over 245 but if Janne hadn't taken it down he had injured very badly. If speed had been slower, Ahonen would hold the record.
@megadog103 I know that fall
it wasn't 128m but 129m
@ferraricatty who is that?
look at his memories dude. I have proof. He said that he had a big party the day before, and he still had got a hangover. At Olympia there was a reportation about him with these facts. Belive me or not!
The Jump was without a doubt longer then 240m. It was rather 245m. The measuring was wrong!
hes too good for other jumpers
@TheFiery Romøren had more in his jump! It looked like as much as 5 meters. That would have put him well into the flats. The 239M seems to be the limit. Ahonen crashed at just one meter more.
bravo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Mursch92 who is that?
Yeah,Romøren was the previous jumper
He was drunk at the time. True story.
uuch...that gonna hurt.. he came to the flat! ahonen is the best jumper in the world!!
Why did he retire? He was still one of the best jumpers in the cup.
he had enough of speed and height to jump 250+, but hill size just wouldn't let him to do that.
Great athlete!
bravo jane
co znaczy kuningaskotka????
i'm no expert, but it looks like the difference between his and Bjørn Einar Romørens 239 m jump. BER's landing comes naturally, whereas Ahonen needs to force himself to descend quickly and ends up falling to the ground like a rock and he has no chance to land the jump.
go go Janne!!!
I agree .
If the pressure wasnt so much .
he could easily make 250m or more... but he would broke his bonnes!
I agree with you Tom870. I guess he could not manage to hold it because he had to "abort" the flight, otherwise he could have gone beyond 245 meters. And that would have been REALLY dangerous!
BJrockk: The word is "hyppy" and it means jump. :)
This jump can't be compared to Romøren's, cause this is coming from higher... It really was impossible to take this down safely.
He is just so fuckin' best! ;D

Look at how high he were when he took that jump down? Over 250m for sure if he wouldn't have taken it down..and serious injury
I think he could make it if he had flew one sec longer because you can see that he touches down to early, he falls straight dawn from 2-3 meters. He could then get ca 242 meter.
he needed more space...the greatest flight ever!
janne.... ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhonen

@iBaNezRG95 ok my bad, but type in Janne Ahonen - Garmisch 128m fall. and then type in Adam malysz garmisch 129.5m ...
woow...he was very coruageous that he did that!!
absolute longest jump in harrachov??????
planica WR 239m /240m fall
oberstdorf HR 223m
vikersund HR 219m /220,5m fall
harrachov HR 214,5m /??
kulm HR 214m /220m fall
..........
copper peak HR 158m
schlierenzauer new superstar right
ahonens time over? NEVER!
mitä helvettiä?
Olisko tänää Jannelle hiema tuuria ja tulis enkka? =)
the word is "hyppy" and it means "jump"
yes
i was watching that jump on TV.....man jumped he far :)
OMFG that was fucking long jump.
The bench where jumpers start their jump should have been on lower for this competition. If i remeber correctly every one was making astonishing jumps on the first round. Ah well I guess there was no way the could have prediceted that Janne would jump as good as he did.
It didn't end his career, that's for sure
This jump would have gone even longer but he took it down earlier. It would have been much worse injury. This is like Anssi Koivuranta at Obersdorf(Hill Record). He also had to take it down in there because the jump would have been too long.

Yeah, Romoren really owns Janne Ahonen, really does.
Am I the only one to see the YELLOW 'shirt' on him? what did that mean again? someone? ;)
did he win?
a ste slišal k so skandiral jane? hehe
he was drunk :D
Uhm.. You say you're basing it off of math, but you give no reasoning for it. I did so, too.
Oh well.. 245 is probably closer anyhow
but jussilainen said that it wasn't that much :D which one we believe?
Would have easily been 245-250 m if didn't have to stop it. Incredibly how high he was. Best jump ever no doubt about that.
Im from finland that guy is speaking finland he said that was 240 meters
does he still win? if thats the farthest?
sej se vidi sam pr nas se lahk tok daleč leti
so what*?
if you say so that would be an obstacle to him... imagine if he hadnt been drinking
jeh but he has scared coz he would land in flat area : /
but jeah respect to him :D And he will jump again this sezon :D
you asked, how can some get up from someting like that.. the answer is very very simple => he's great Janne Ahonen.
i think, some schlierenzauer would survive, i think!
I doubt it would be 250, but no doubt it would be 243.
He is not jumping to long. He did not won, it was Bjørn Einar Romøren
Norway rules!!!
Janne Achonen can jump amazingly far! But Adam Malysz has stronger legs... so I think that if it was Malysz he would manage to stay up.
