  • On Sunday 22 July 2012 Steamrail ran their annual "Snow Train" tour to Traralgon in Gippsland's LaTrobe valley. The train was heavily booked with 13 carriages and was hauled by North British built R class 4-6-4 steam locomotives R761 and R711.
This video features four scenes from the down journey at Oakleigh, Drouin, Moe and near Traralgon. The train gets it's name from a side trip which is offered to Mt St Gwinear.

The opening scene is right where I had planned to film the train. Alas I slept in :-( Not to worry, as you did a great job capturing the action.

Thanks for the comments everyone. The lack of wind certainly helped with the sound :)

I wish they travel across North America, that would be even cooler.

Great vid.... all the shots were good but I liked the first one best of all.... great acceleration with such a heavy train. I always kick myself for never having made it to Vic when West Coast was running these on the Saturday timetabled expresses to Warrnambool in the early 2000s
And I have to admit that the R Class locos are really favs of mine..... if only I could buy one …☁☁☁☁☁⁘⁙⁙……Hᴜɢʜ….TU…..ツ
