  • Snow train SteamOz www.steamrail.com.au/ R711 Spirit of Bendigo in Australia and R761 on the 22nd of July 2012
SteamRail Double Header from Melbourne to Traralgon.
A very big thanks to Geoff Moller (father in-law) for donating this footage to me and for taking the time to film these lovely steam engines to share with the world on XxBec3509 TRFF.
First from the west towards the Waterloo Road rail crossing, then seen stationary awaiting for a Melbourne bound Sprinter to pass.Resumes on its way to the Moe Railway Station, once the Sprinter has passed, then seen stationary at Moe Station, waiting for passengers to board.
Eastbound from Moe across Narracan Creek towards the Haunted Hills, Newborough Next....
R711 SPIRIT OF BENDIGO and R761 seen exciting Haunted Hills at Hernes Oak
then a westbound Sprinter from Traralgon to Melbourne passes, taken from up a signal post. Approaching Tramway Road crossing towards Traralgon the double headed steamers pass.

There’s one thing that Australia has with their steam locomotives that no other country has.
    It’s Our Unique Whistles

Wonderful film! Thank you so much fro sharing. I'm a huge fan of the steam locomotives and its heartwarming to see they are being still used and taken care of in Australia. I hope you keep up your excellent work and send me a copy of future uploads. Take care!

Nice shots...... I love those R class locos. Their work was amazing on the Melbourne Warnambool Sat service trains in the early 2000s. I so regret not going to Victoria and taking a trip when they were running. I heard that they easily kept modern diesel timings. I'd like to see them run at 150, which they could easily do.
For UK viewers - I'm sure you love the safety regs. In the Northern Territory they are even stricter…..ツ …☁☁☁⁘⁙☁☁⁙..☁……Hᴜɢʜ….Lɪᴋᴇᴅ

It appeared that the engines had both automatic couplers, and separators and chains.
    When did they change over?
I love Australian railways. Their components appear to be about three-quarters North American railway designs and one-quarter British railway designs.
    Thanks for the video.

    • @cliffleigh7450
      @cliffleigh7450 Před 6 lety +1

#numberzerozero six. The steam locos are fitted with "transition couplers" where the auto coupler could be swung aside and the screw coupling used. The VR started phasing out screw couplings in the late 1920's, see this article: www.pjv101.net/cd/pages/vrf_ac.htm
Why Britain and Europe have persisted with that archaic system into the 21st century I don't know.

I remember being on the Sprit of Progress way back in the 1950s when the R class Hudsons were coal fired. Don't tell my fellow NSWelshmen , but I thought the R class were and still are superior to our 38s

Well for those in the UK who want to come and see it - they run the Snow Train to Traralgon twice a year every winter (July - August) double-headed with 2 R class locos.
