I vividly remember my Dad surprising me and my brother at Christmas with a grey N64 and a copy of GoldenEye 007 and Super Mario 64 back in ‘97… the excitement that I felt at that point was unparalleled and I have really fond memories of me, my brother and my Dad spending the majority of Christmas Day that year completely immersed in the multiplayer mode on GoldenEye 007… an unforgettable Christmas that’s still fondly remembered by us all.

I think it was 98 or 99 that my Mom bought me an Nintendo 64 with Super Mario 64 and Goldeneye, the same two games you got as well. I got the N64 with with the Atomic Purple controller included. But the real special treat outta nowhere that Christmas was that my best friend that lived right next door to me got the EXACT same setup (games & system) the same Christmas day because both our Mom's went Christmas shopping together, so amongst us we had four controllers and each of us had a younger sibling so we had soooo much fun that Christmas holidays

I got my N64 on Thursday, Sept 26th 1996. It released a couple days early at the Toys R Us where I preordered it. I was going to college on the other side of the state from where I grew up. After class I found out they released the system early. I called in to work saying I wouldn't be in until Monday. Packed some things to go stay the extended weekend at my parents house across the state, picked up the N64 and drove across the state to play Mario 64 with family and friends. What a great weekend!

I will always remember my first time trying out the Nintendo 64! It was at Blockbuster Video in mid-1996. Totally blew my ten year old mind away. My first thought was, Oh my GOD, Nintendo is reinventing video games! The N64 controller and Super Mario 64 changed everything. You had to be there to know what I am talking about. Today it does not seem to be a big deal, but back then this was revolutionary. Going from Super Nintendo to Nintendo 64 was huge.

After a failed attempt at the Toys R Us near us which had a power outage in the electronics section of the store where the demo units were setup (just my luck!), I had to wait a couple weeks later till I finally got to play it at our local Nobody Beats The Wiz in NJ, and I managed to get to the top of Thwomp's Fortress and beat Thwomp within the 5 minute demo time limit which impressed the crowd of onlookers the system had attracted! They had a kiosk set up with Mario Kart 64 and the first track my brother and I ever played was Wario Stadium. We were immediately hooked so we spent the next school holidays saving up for it and picked it up at the same location about a month later.
Some of the best memories playing the N64 was Wave Race 64. My dad (who has passed away now) was not really into videogames, but he really took to Wave Race which we played the living daylights out of.

I remember the first time I saw Mario 64, I had to walk down the street to get my brother from his friend's house, for dinner. And they were all sitting in the living room, playing the level where you have little wings on your hat, flying through the sky collecting red rings, I was just in awe of what I was seeing.
    RIP brother, I love you.

I was always late to getting the new systems. So I remember going with my mom to Sears and while she would look at clothes, me and the other kids who were with their parents would be huddled around the N64 display taking turns on the demo of Mario 64. We were so blown away by 3D Mario. Was definitely one of my favorite systems when we finally got one. Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, Tony Hawk, Spiderman, Mario Party 64, 1080 Snowboarding, and WCW vs NWO Revenge were among my favorites.

25 years (or maybe a touch less for us in the UK)? Crazy! It's impossible to replicate how exciting Mario 64 was, seeing it for the first time. Mind blowing.
Interesting seeing those initial games in that magazine! Some came out on day 1, some took years, some never on the system at all.

I was 4 years old when the Nintendo 64 first came out and looking back now at 29 is wild. “Super Mario 64” and The “Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time” hold such a dear place in my heart because a lot of my childhood revolves around those games. Also off topic to early 3D games, the Spyro games on the PlayStation were pretty impactful as well and to this day put “Super Mario 64” and “Spyro: Year of the Dragon” as my favorite 3D platformers. Thank you guys for making this video and bringing back some good nostalgic memories for a lot of us!

I was 8 years old when this console came out. I remember it being such a huge deal. My family have always been dirt poor so I never owned one, however I did have a PS1 with limited games thanks to my family really scraping money together for me. One of my best friends did not have a PS1, so we decided one summer to swap consoles just for the holidays. What a summer, I got to play Mario 64, Mario kart, Banjo, pokemon Stadium, Pokemon snap and Golden eye. I'll forever be thankful to my friend for suggesting that, if it wasn't for him I would have never tasted the glory that the N64 had to offer. It solidified my love for Nintendo. I can't wait to dive back in very soon on the Nintendo Switch

I was 13 years old and seeing Mario in 3D blew my tiny mind, and still does because its impressive all these years on... I still have my N64 all these years on, it was more the time spent with my dad that I cherish and I won't ever get rid of my original console.

So many memories playing these games, and what classics they are now that go for quite a bit of money. I was 14 years-old at the time when it came out. I still remember here where I live (Montreal), our amusement park (La Ronde, today owned by Six Flags) had a specific place, a building that used to be an aquarium in the 1980s that Nintendo rented and repurposed the whole interior into basically a 'current gen and next gen' all-Nintendo things. It was called the Nintendo Megadome. And during the summer of 1996 (would have been late August for me when I went in on that famous day) they had about 4 or 5 demonstration stands (shaped like small cylindrical columns, from what I can remember) where you could play Mario 64 and Pilotwings 64 as well (about 2 stands for each game). I did _not_ know they had that when I went to the amusement park on day that. And when I got in and saw it... I cannot describe my feelings. I was absolutely floored, mind-blown to the 7th sky.
I picked up the controller and after staring at it for about a minute, I looked up at the screen and started to move around the Castle at the beginning, opening doors, going in different rooms, jumping around. It was a moment in history for me. I will never forget. I can say I experienced the Nintendo 64 and Mario 64 that way here and considering it was pre-launch (by about 2 months) I felt extremely privileged at the time. It was also very unique at the time to experience a console prior to launch. I remember telling some of my friends about 2 or 3 weeks following that day in September when school started and they just didn't believe me at all (even though some of them knew about the Nintendo Megadome but wouldn't believe I had actually played the 'Ultra 64' and Mario 64 there).
For me today the Nintendo 64 is possibly my 2nd or maybe 3rd favorite video game console of all time. I always debated with myself about my 'preference' overall between the PS1 and the N64; but one thing is for sure, is that between 1995 to the release of the Dreamcast in 1999 (here in North America that is) we were BLESSED as video gamers to have had both the PS1 and the N64 during those years; whichever console you'd prefer to have (or heck, for some it might have even been the Sega Saturn) at the time, we all need to realize a moment here that the transition from 16-bit to 32-bit and moving into 64-bit and 'true' 3D gaming all occurred within merely a period of 5 years. In just half a decade we moved 2 generations and went from bare bone story-telling in games to CGIs, FMVs, from Cartridge to CD-Roms and CD-quality soundtracks on top of all that.
What an incredible period for video gaming the 90s was. It was perfect.

Thank you for this. The N64 actually holds the most memories of any console for me. I remember Xmas receiving my first NES and that was big, but N64 holds a special place for me. I had gotten injured and moved from LA to Alaska(culture shock) and was working 60hr weeks. I got sick with double pneumonia and my partner at the time bought one and gave me Mario 64 to keep me down. I collected all 120 stars a few times lol. The magic of this console after a big break from video games was nothing short of pure magic. OoT, Banjo Kazooie, Mario 64, Golden Eye, even Wetrix and Tetrisphere which I still play to this day sometimes lol. Even the controller was great for me as with small hands it gave me options.

While I'm too young to have been around for the N64 launch (one year younger than Johnny was at launch), I do own an N64 that my dad brought back for me around 2013 or 2014.
He knew I was into retro game collecting, and went looking through flea markets farther south in Alabama than where I live, and picked up an N64 with Mario 64, WaveRace 64, and Nascar 2000, plus two controllers AND an SNES with two controllers plus games.
Even though I've played them less as time goes on, I really love to have these pieces of hardware in my collection.

Despite not having much memories of the N64 at this point I loved the console. I do remember playing Goldeneye with my brother, and Snowboard Kids, Mario Kart 64, Diddy Kong Racing, and Mario Party with him and our mother.
I was born in '93 and I remember very little of the early days of my gaming since I got started with an NES pretty much as soon as I could hold a controller in my hands.
A little strange to think back at the fact that my first experience with video games was Super Mario Bros. on NES, despite my age.
Our parents bought our cousin's NES for my brother when our cousin was selling it to afford an SNES.
My brother is several years older than me which sort of explains the fact that I was playing old consoles as early as I did.

I remember being in college, probably around 97/98 so maybe a little late to the party, I wasn’t really a big Nintendo fan, But couldn’t help but be amazed by the N64 console, two my friends had it & it wasn’t even Mario for me that sold it although that was great but what wowed me was eventually seeing one friends copy of Shadows of the Empire on it and Goldeneye, playing Goldeneye in my other friends house in his huge attic games room, about 8 of us in there all gathered around taking turns four at a time, (the other friend brought round two controllers) winners stayed on and he also had a p.c in there & a hi-fi (& ps one) just all the game sessions & all the music we listened to still burned into my memory to this day, the summer break after the first year of college was the best ever because we spent even more time there then, he even rented a whole slew of games like 1080 Snowboarding & Mario Kart, we loved playing the ballon battles for days! Great me memories of gaming together in person that I miss as I don’t see those friends these days, I live so far away now and lost touch. Happy Anniversary to a revolutionary console even if you weren’t the best of all time you were still hugely significant.

I recently reignited a "vintage" gaming flame when I came across my Gameboy stowed away in my grandmother's closet still in my old Gameboy carrying case, i then began to wonder where my SNES was, so i went out to our storage room and began searching and found it along with several of my games. Both the Gameboy and SNES fired right up with no problem. I then began watching videos like this and reminiscing about sitting at my cousins house and playing 007 Goldeneye, Diddykong Racing, Starfox and Mario 64 for hours on end, so of course i went out and bought an n64 and those games. My gf also wanted an n64 so i just bought her the DK edition for Christmas, and Zelda. The multiplayer functionality of older game consoles seemed to be so much more user friendly with playing a quick game with friends, and surprisingly is just as fun as modern games, with little to no boot-up time. Within a minute, we're set up racing Diddy Kong. I haven't even turned my Xbox One on in over a month now.
