Hooking an external speaker to it by itself is gonna sound horrible because Google home doesn't have much of a audio amplifier Built-in. So any external speaker you hooked directly to it is gonna sound like crap unless you hook it to a stereo.

Can connect the 2 wires for speaker to the Google Home?, will it work, and does this setup need power connected to make speaker work?...The bluetooth board (808) comes with recharge battery for the circuit. I just need a speaker (Google Min's) to be connected. Thanks for this video! I was easily able to follow your instructions and add an aux port to my google home. However, I was disappointed by the audio quality. The voice sounds fine, but when I tried playing audio it was very flat and had no bass at all. Is there any adjustments that can fix this?

    • @Make-it-work
      @Make-it-work  Před 6 lety +1

      I'm glad to hear that you liked my instructions! As to audio quality, it's pretty much all about what speakers you use. In the video I use a speaker that has really good bass. Another way to improve the quality would be to run a mid and a sub in parallel (with maybe some resistance to the mid’s speaker). If you want to really crank up the bass, I recommend using speakers in conjunction with the LP-838 amplifier because it has a dedicated sub out with its own volume knob. It works well for me!
      Here's a link to some LP-838 amplifiers. I recommend looking around though, as they vary in price quite a bit:
      www.aliexpress.com/wholesale?catId=0&initiative_id=&SearchText=lp-838

    • @danlowks
      @danlowks Před 6 lety +1

      Great video and instructions.
      On your recommendation above about using a LP-838 amp, would you need to add resistor(s) at the Google Mini output to reduce the voltage or can you feed the output directly to the LP-838 without clipping?
      I saw that the LP-838 has stereo inputs. I would assume that you can use a Y splitter (mono to "stereo") to connect the mono Google mini aux out to the Left and Right RCA inputs of the LP-838.
      Thanks in advance.

    • @Make-it-work
      @Make-it-work  Před 6 lety

      My diagram for wiring the output on the Google home Mini ties together the left and right channels so you can even use a stereo splitter if you'd like (or you can use a aux cord and the input on the front of the amplifier), and when I use the LP-838 I only let the Google home mini go up to 35% volume, which is more than enough because the LP-838 can go very loud on its own. You could probably turn it up more without damaging the amplifier.

    • @danlowks
      @danlowks Před 6 lety

      Oh, that incidentally is a very helpful comment on the Left and Right channel being tied together. I did not know that and was still trying to figure out how to connect to a phone jack (I use a 4 poles jack and that had me perplexed too).
      If it's not too much trouble can you advise how to connect to a 4 pole phone jack? A direct connection to a jack will be easy, but I had a hard time trying to figure out how the mini speaker is being disabled when a jack in plugged in (not much additional information I can find on the internet either)
      Great to know that you had it connected to a LP-838 without problem. I'm going to do that once I have my phone jack done.
      Thanks and once again Great Work!

    • @Make-it-work
      @Make-it-work  Před 6 lety

      If you pause the video at 5:24 and look at the diagram the two red spots representing where to solder the red wire to those two should be the left and right, but because we've taken the red wire to both of them they've tied the left and right together. The yellow in the bottom is the out so you have the left and the right going to the headphone jack and then when the headphone jack is not plugged in, the one on the right is connected to the yellow and continues to the onboard speaker.
      As to a 4 pole headphone jack, typically that is only used if one of them is video or, in the case of like Apple headphones, one of them helps with the mic and remote so you can pretty much just ignore that because it should work with the headphone jack, you just won't have access to the microphone or the remote which you couldn't get access to any way with this type of configuration.

    Hello,
    I seem to be confused with the schematic of the audio jack.
    I need a stereo output and what i understand from the real schematic of the jack is that #1 is R audio in from amp # 2 R speaker out # 3 is L speaker out, # 4 is L audio in from amp # 5 is ground
    Your connection shows the following:
    #1 audio in is connected to #5 common
    # 2 and #3 are connected to the inbuilt speaker
    # 4 is connected to ground
    If i look at the correct wiring diagram it shows:
    #1 and #4 connected together
    # 3 and #5 connected to inbuilt speaker
    By the way i read #1 to #5 from lower left corner and move towards right and go up to top. The top is the socket where you insert the headphone jack.
    Please advise

    I pushed a small flat blade under the edge of mine and just pulled it off. Adhesive actually wasn't terribly strong. Also, always use heat shrink instead of electrical tape. And when you put solder on a lead without soldering two items it's called "tinning" not soldering.

    No need to add the resistors like in the other hack videos ? Why ?

    • @Make-it-work
      @Make-it-work  Před 3 lety

      my understanding is the resistor has 2 purposes lowering the Max output so as to not blow up amplifiers if you set it to full volume, and cleans up the sound when going into some amplifiers both features are unnecessary if you're wiring directly to a speaker without going through at amplifier. your mileage with amplifiers may vary and always be careful to not use Max volume on the mini when plugged into an amplifier I recommend 35%

  • @lionintu
    @lionintu Před 6 lety

    You didnt neex a resister to lower the output on output??

    • @Make-it-work
      @Make-it-work  Před 6 lety

      I don't need a resistor if I'm just going to an external speaker. If I was to go to a stereo then I might want one because otherwise there's a slight hissing sound and you can't turn the volume up on the home Mini. But because I was just trying to increase the audio quality I could go to a non amplified speaker and it just sounds better especially in the Lowe's

    • @eric-u
      @eric-u Před 6 lety +1

      Very interesting.. I was trying to understand why some video needed a resistor..so thanks for the explanation..
      Can I ask, what do you mean by you can't turn the volume up on the google home mini? It had a volume control..does it stop working?

    • @Make-it-work
      @Make-it-work  Před 6 lety

      If you send too powerful of a signal to the input of a stereo it can potentially fry it
      Because it's expecting the volume to be equivalent to what would be coming out of the headphone jack on a phone. So it's not that you can't turn the volume up it's the fact that you don't want to turn the volume all the way up In fear of damaging something

    • @nicomannski2
      @nicomannski2 Před 6 lety

      Make it work That means If I Put the Google Home Minis Volume to (let's say) 20%, I won't need a resistor to be sure not damaging my Stereo ?
      I'm Not familiar with Audio signals and things like that but is it possible to build a resistor into the AUX cable in order to prevent damaging my Stereo ?
      Great video by the way :)

    • @Make-it-work
      @Make-it-work  Před 6 lety

      Thank you! Yes, it is totally possible to put a resistor in the aux cable, or you can mount the resistor in between the blue and black wires and the headphone jack end, as shown on the diagram at 5:20 ( the way I wire it in the video wasn't correct; it only had the one channel working so use the diagram).
      P.S. Without a resistor I typically use maximum 30% volume when going into a stereo.

  • @dedyvideo
    @dedyvideo Před 4 lety +1

    Great video , however I am sure there is Digital sound processing going on to make this small speakers sound like good,so the sound you going to get is highly process specifically for their speaker your speaker is not likely going to sound good since it’s different , also
    This is mono solution so not really good axe out , better use the Bluetooth broadcasting ability of the mini
    still great video , thanks

    We have long resisted getting an Echo. Never really saw a need. czcams.com/users/postUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB When we recently completed some remodeling in our home, we realized we had failed to add a switch to turn on a certain lamp across the room. We couldn't run new wiring (which would have been expensive if we could), so we got our first Echo which completely solved our problem for about $40 (Echo Dot and smart plug). We just ask Alexa to turn on/off that light. Heartily recommend it to solve this kind of conundrum!
