And thats were the another problem lays. Serbs are ultraortodoxy and muslim are ultrareligion by default, from what i know croats are not so religious, so problem lays between 2 ultrareligious forces. What do you mean "They as us as ''Turks'' not as Slavs and they just don't want to admit it"? Croats were one of the oldest slavic tribes, i have blood ties with them cuz we had the same ancestors (White Croats), the diffirence in that we stayed around Carpathians and they migrated to Pannonia and then to Dalmatia they came from Carpathian mountaines and settled in Dalmatia. Serbs are little bit diffirent with their own uniqness, but they are slavs in general.

    • @AlvinVjeverica
      @AlvinVjeverica Před 9 lety +31

      BNJT Yes, actually in most cases.I'll give you one example of one difference and it is the main difference, there are few more in grammar. So, the word milk in Bosnian: mlijeko; Croatian: mlijeko; Serbian: mleko; and that main difference is in that "ije/je" and "e" part. So every word in Bosnian/Croatian (as you can see they are pretty much same) that has that "ije/je" part in Serbian is written only as "e" (beautiful-lijepo-lepo; world-svijet-svet...). Also in Croatia, and some parts of Bosnia, where people instead of "ije/je" and "e", are using "i", but this is not official language it is like slang. In these countries (BIH, CRO, SRB) there are also a lot of dialects, but again the main difference is the same. Of course, there are some special cases. In the conclusion, yes we can differentiate people by how they speak :D

    • @nedim_guitar
      @nedim_guitar Před 9 lety +26

      BNJT Usually it is quite possible to tell if someone is from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia or Serbia, by the way the speak, the dialect. Montenegro is a bit more tricky, as it's sort of a mix between Serbian and Bosnian, but not really... It's around the boarder regions it gets tricky. But the religious or ethnic group to is hard to tell, as Muslims in Serbia and Montenegro don't have the same dialect as Muslims in Bosnia... Well, anyway... It's all one language. The problem is nationalism. Some nationalist orthodox Christians/Serbs claiming that Bosnian Muslims are actually Serbs (or they were Serbs a few centuries ago), while some nationalist Catholics/Croats claim the same thing about the Bosnian Muslims, thus negating the sovereign country of Bosnia and Herzegovina and more or less negating the right of Bosnian Muslims to exist. The problem is that citizens of the medieval Bosnian kingdom didn't actually move to Bosnia from Croatia or Serbia. They were sort of Christian themselves and created their own kingdom, that was sort of always under attack. The medieval times were dark times... Anyway, no matter what, anti-Bosnia nationalists are trying, and have been trying for more than 20 years, to erase the historic continuity of a clearly defined region/country that existed from around 1180. And the problem for anti-Bosnian nationalists is usually the Muslim population, that are sometimes seen as Turks (due to the Ottoman empire) and thus traitors, and, as previously noted, sometimes seen as Serbs or Croats, depending on who vents his/her opinion. The nationalists in the neighboring Croatia and Serbia have basically throughout the 20th century used Catholics and orthodox Christians respectively in order to reach their goal of territorial expansion, but as late as the 19th century, all people were said to be Bosnian. Some say that, at least. I'm not too sure of that. I think that those that were not "Turks" or Muslim during the rule Ottoman empire, I don't think that they always called themselves Bosnian. Bosnia was at that time only a region in the Ottoman empire, so naturally, those that remained Christian were drawn in by their respective Christian brothers, i.e. the states of Croatia and Serbia (which didn't really exist as states during that time either); it was probably some time during the 19th century that the awakening of the national ideas happened, and Bosnian Catholics were dubbed Croat by Croatians, while Bosnian orthodox Christians were dubbed Serb by Serbians. After the withdrawal of the Ottoman empire, Bosnia remained a region within Austria-Hungary, so the "Turks", as the Muslims were called, lost their political power. Obviously, Serbia saw its chance to unite all the south Slavic people by eliminating archduke Franz Ferdinand, and there would not be a Bosnia anymore. It was reinstated as a one of the republics in Yugoslavia in 1943, during WWII, and it was only in 1974 that the Bosnian Muslims were recognized as a people of their own. But they were not called Bosnian, because all people living in the republic were Bosnian (geographically, not nationally), so Bosnian Muslims got the national term "Muslim" with a capital M (religious groups in that language are not written with a capital letter). So, of course, when the 1990's approached and nationalism rose (rooted in WWII losing fascist, nazi and collaborator groups), there was not a consensus regarding Bosnia and Herzegovina. Generally speaking only Bosnian Muslims and small numbers of others were identifying themselves as Bosnian (a very small number as Yugoslav, but Yugoslavia was just about dead anyway)... Naturally the Bosnian Croats (i.e. Catholics) and the Bosnian Serbs (i.e. orthodox Christians) were reluctant to live in a country ruled by Muslims, even though equality for all people/nations was written in the constitution. They didn't want Bosnia and Herzegovina because they didn't see themselves as Bosnian, thanks to the nationalist politicians fear mongering. Serbs were still clinging to Yugoslavia, which by that point was basically a greater Serbia run by Milosevic, who funded the wars in Croatia and Bosnia. Croats, on the other side, were against Yugoslavia, but soon after Bosnia and Herzegovina became a sovereign state, they started looking towards Croatia in fulfilling their national desires of living in Croatia, by widening Croatia's boarders (Croatia's president Tudjman's policy in action). At the same time, the Muslim nationalist party, run by Bosnia's first president Izetbegovic, slowly alienated pro-Bosnian Croats and Serbs; as the war went on, the Bosnian identity was sort of equated to the Muslim identity.
      So basically, it's all about identity seeking. Yugoslavia ended, and the only ones that were there to fill the political and the identity vacuum were nationalists. One ethnic group's identity became more clearly formulated (by the nationalists, usually in contrast to the evil Communist Yugoslav oppressors). But that newly awakened national identity usually meant that while "our people" now must have their rights fulfilled (as formulated by the nationalists), the others' (other peoples') were not a part of the equation; "our nation's" rights were usually seen, or formulated as the opposite of other nations' rights, so they were naturally to be fulfilled at other peoples' expense. Lack of democratic history in the region meant that the political elites were reluctant to compromise and they sacrificed more than 100.000 peoples lives only in Bosnia and Herzegovina in order to create ethnically clean territories, for their own ideal of nationally pure countries. And mentally, the ruling elites are still there, and still poisoning the minds of the people, leaving the whole war thing still an open chapter. It's quite sickening, actually.

    Visited Sarajevo this summer and really left my heart there. I felt an incredible connection with this astonishing city, going through what it has gone through really made the city develop a complete functioning heart and it is impossible not to fall in love with it. I can't wait to visit again, love from Italy.

    7:19 Irish is actually a Language, and it has no relation to English in any way. It's one of the six surviving Celtic Languages, along with Scottish Gaelic (pronounced Gah-lick), Manx, Welsh, Cornish, and Breton.
    Fun Fact: The theme song of Metal Gear Solid 1 is sung in Irish.

      @@garagedwellermusic There is no need for a "burek sa mesom" term, because there is no "burek bez mesa". There is only BUREK, which must contain meat. Otherwise it's one of these:
      Sirnica - pita with cheese
      Krompirusa - pita with potatoes
      Zeljanica - pita with spinach
      Sve su pite pite, al' burek je pitac. : p

    Very good review, the only thing missing is the historic explanation for he current situation. There is no comparison to Belgium where two distinct nationalities coexist, Vallons speaking French and Flams speaking Dutch. In B-H originally one nation people speaking the same language got separated by historic development to use different religion, different alphabet and somewhat different culture.

    Just visited BiH last week. A wonderfully interesting country and your video does it justice. One point of clarification, I think you may be confusing the terms "Bosnian" and "Bosniak"
