I vote you use all the skills you have picked up in this hobby to try to weather your table to match those gorgeous late tudor timbers
I agree
Yes
You're my favourite mini painter guy, your presentation style is straightforward and unpretentious and super accessible whilst also showing great techniques and your end results are stellar, keep it up man :)
True
@@user-ko3tv7jl2r absolutely the editing and camera angles must be so awkward for him but it’s so seamless :o
same
Amen
I definitely would avoid painting the table black. Personally I would go for a slight tinted varnish to keep the wood looking beautiful and interesting. Black is far too easy and looks terrible after lots of dings, knocks and gouges. Clear varnish works well to also protect the surface. Well done on the new studio.
Came here to suggest this, glad I'm not the only one.
I am a oil stain man my self with a hard clear lacquer for the protection
yeah, a varnish that preserves the wood grain seems best.
This is what I was thinking as well.
I agree, black doesn't look good unless it is done very fine and sleek, so imo it doesn't fit with the rugged design of the table. And like you said, every bump and scratch is going to show on a black finish so it doesn't quite suite for furniture that's meant to be used.
400 year old building. That's got some history behind it. Older than my country (us). Congratulations can't wait to see what amazing things you make from there. Lobe your work and channel
Get this video in my eyeballs right goddamn now
How about a midwinter minis Yogscast crossover special? ;-)
@@bingobangoist I think my reality would explode
Hahaha yes
Congrats on the new studio, looks awesome.
I'd lacquer that gaming table and just let all that glorious wood grain shine through.
Absolutely, and paint that porcelain throne gold...
Wonderful, now I know how to paint the dead Imperial Fists for my Iron Warriors bases! Thank you and keep up the good work 😄
Iron within, Iron without!
You also paint chaos. I paint the Thousand Sons
You paint Thousand Sons, I paint Blood Angels
@@WAcrobat19 my uncle paints blood Angels too and im thinking to put a primaris helmet on my helbrute base so when we fight ill show him whose the boss. And my dad is going to paint aeldari so ill ask him if he has any helmets over after he has bought the start collecting box so ill show them both whose the boss😎
Heresy;
Hi! When you foreshadowed Midwintermini's future, I dreaded an announcement of a change away from what you've privided on the channel (I started watching since the Blackstone Fortress basing with combs video). But fret not; You'll be providing the same cool, honest & USEFUL (pragmatic, logical & "go away bad transfer!") content. Yay! Thank you. -Scopes Maverick
You made me inspired to play orks now I have 3000 points of them
I'm so, so sorry, haha
@@MidwinterMinis 😂😂
@@MidwinterMinis warg!!!!!!!!!
My lord, I can only imagine how many boyz youve got. I've just started Orks after my CSM hit 2000 ish points - 10 boyz down, a hell of a lot to go!
@@JoeHardacre great to see you join the tide
Congrats on your new studio! Thankyou for everything you managed to get me to finally paint and enjoy the hobby!
Thanks matey!
That wood table looks fantastic as is to me, though my tastes are certainly rustic. You could stain it perhaps. Great video!
I would also go inbetween black and naked wood. Dark stain will do it
Agreed, a stain and oil will work really nicely, I did it with my marine ply boards and they came out great.
Stain the wood. It’ll look good.
For the table I highly recommend natural wood look with a varnish or other finish of your choice. Nothing like natural wood look, and it will go well with your Tudor era workspace!
Congrats on the new studio it's gorgeous and thanks for a great video. Best wishes to you and the family.
I’d paint it personally, they used construction grade 2x4’s to make it. Varnish is really for more expensive woods.
Wow. I'm going to have a studio like that one day. Congratulations, you've earned it
Thanks matey! Make it happen! :)
Absolutely fantastic hobby space, and a great tutorial! Glad to see my favourite 40k channel is doing well :)
I dig the new studio Guy! Well done with the imperial fists too.
Beginning to panic, three weeks since the ancient Exocrine, and no MWM videos. Cold sweats, drooling, even worse than coming off coke (I mean the beverage). Then today, it arrives. Life is good, Guy and Penny are back, Gods in his heaven and all is right with the world. Great video Guy, really enjoy the laid back style and great content. New studio, same direction, same high quality, what's not to like. Oh and hope the little dudes are good too, dying to see them learn to paint.
I've always loved this terminator design, it rides the line between goofy and cool so well, and feels the closest to how these suits are described in the novels: hulking, slow, heavily armored, almost like walking tanks that can shrug off all but the heaviest weapons without stopping. Thanks for shouting out another great looking 3rd party model line!
Your “Hive Fleet Fabulous” (and much gentle pushing from my partner) is what lead to me getting my Start Collecting Tyranid box, and then I treated myself to a Hive Tyrant too, for my birthday. I hope to one day have a glitzy army of shiny space bugs to show you - here’s to 2022!
The terminator helmet really makes these models.
One (of the many) things I love about this channel is the relentless positivity. Honestly, it's a refreshing change.
I vote natural finish for the table. For my Hawkshroud boys I've had good success priming black, undercoat pink, then yellow base coats. I find the pink gives the yellow a richer tone. Love the result you got from this technique, looks great.
Guy, man I cannot tell you how much your content means to me!! You have an authenticity that really separates you from so many others - thank you for all you do, but more importantly who you are!!!
I watch this channel because:
20% because I like Warhammer
20% because I like miniatures
20% because I like your voice
40% because you are just so wholesome!
For my hobby personally, this is the greatest video youve ever made, thank you
24:03 I see what you did there.
Btw: I personally really like basecoating my yellow minis with pink, it really pops nicely.
As a viewer since the Sandstone Necrons; the growth of the channel has been great to see. Stoked you're able to do something you love and use it to help support yourself and your young family! Congrats on the studio space Guy :P
All / most paints are with brushes, no airbrush. Sound of your voice is soothing and Your painting is spot on. Don’t change Guy.
Wasn't convinced by the thumbnail, but man these minis grew on me quickly! love them
You're like a wizard with the brush and color selection. Amazing as always.
Those are some nice looking Imperial Fists! I really like the look of the Tortuga Bay termintors but giving them regular Terminator heads gives them a whole new and equally cool look!
I've used Micro Sol and Micro Set for a while, it's something I picked up from the scale modelling community. In my experience you often don't even need to fiddle with the decal after applying Micro Sol, it does its thing and gets the decal conforming to the surface on its own. I have some home printed decals for a homebrew chapter of space marines and the decals are a bit on the inflexible side. Micro Sol and Micro Set have been invaluable in getting their decals onto my models.
Table, IMHO paint it white and when somebody comes over to do a game have them sign and date it in black sharpie gives you a history!!
I think Simon needs to come back and help you with the 1 thing a studio should have for a painting studio. . a spray booth setup permanently for you to spray inside. I have seen a few videos of people doing DIY or purchased. turn it into a video I know you are a paint channel but seeing this kind of DIY is helpful and I think a spray booth would be an ideal addition if you have space.
Anyways gratz on studio cant wait to see the titan!!!
Please do keep making the same kind of content. Sadly some of the youtubers i watch (not just hobby ones either) get a fancy new workspace and suddenly.. it's like the new space changes their perspective and they go all 'content creation professional' and their content starts to change slowly but surely until suddenly, it becomes hard for the average home hobbyist to relate to the person with a fully decked out studio, dedicated game space, rare or difficult to obtain models a handful of sponsor provided 3D printers and more time to throw at the hobby than most of us could ever dream of having.
What i guess I'm saying is - please don't let the space subtly dictate your content - keep being the guy in a spare room, stealing away a few hours from daily life to pursue a hobby in his spare time, talking to other guys and gals doing the same thing
Unfounded panic out of the way - woohoo! congratulations! love the new space, well done!
That is a cool recipe for yellow and I really like how you made the likely most intimidating chapter to paint look approachable! Cheers mate and enjoy the new studio. It looks awesome
Recommend keeping raw wood or going for a light stain. It nicely frames the darker table mat.
Just found your channel 3 weeks ago and I have been hooked . I just love your content . Pls don't stop making videos.
I was having a conversation about those Saturn shoulders the other day. I absolutely love the silhouette they create.
they are making new terminator models soon for 2023 and by the looks of them they will compare pretty well with the primaris scum
I've been a fan since the BSF series. Great to see the new studio, and how far you've brought the channel. Well done!
Yes on every level. retro advert vibe, imperial fists, terminators,,,god level video. Paint it red to match them shelves!!!!!
That wall in the back round of us office looks amazing !!!! Love older stuff like that
Awesome work. I think you should do more painting stuff like the Black Stone Fortress. Keep up the good work.
Just got into the hobby this past month, gotta say I love your battle reports, they're by far the best ones I've found on all of youtube. The format works great, especially for a beginner like me!
I totally agree.
Watching this in the middle of winter is another kind of vibe
You’ve made the good aliens from the Fifth Element: the Mondoshawan. Looks great!
You’re back!!! You’ve been missed… congratulations on the new studio, your videos have always been well polished articles, but something feels different about this one… definitely a step up. long live MWM!! 👏👏👏
Love the gaming table. You should totally use a dark gel stain on it. It looks to be pine or spruce, so you would get a fun grain contrast.
Alternatively, you could toast it with a blowtorch to give it a really nice natural finish
I love these old terminators, so classic, and then an Imperial Fists colour scheme to top it off! 🔥
This kind of painting is basically magic to me.
Glad to see Mircosol and Microset getting some more love in wargaming. Its hugely popular in scale modelling and seriously makes using decals easier!
Love the new studio too!
I had no idea it wasn’t popular in these circles. My train people gave me bottles when I first started. We could learn so much from other hobbyists.
Definitely! The scale model and railway hobbyists have so many techniques, tools and tips they use that would work for wargamers perfectly!
Happy to see you're making content again. I'm an Age of Sigmar guy, and I don't plan on getting into 40K *at all* but I love your stuff. It's just *that* good.
All power to you Guy. Give the table a light, natural stain to get the best of both worlds.
As an Imperial Fists player myself it's always nice to see my yellow boys getting some love.
Beautiful studio! The table would look excellent if it was varnished.
Just about to comment the same! Make that wood texture really pop
Ooh! Sleek & elegant styling, with Corinthian leather 👍 noice!! & yes. Paint it black.
A video for painting yellow and using acrylic inks, today is a good day. Now I’m tempted to paint the best space marine chapter, The Lamenters
Congratulations on the new studio space! It's been amazing to see the growth of the chanel. Well deserved!
As a part time furniture-maker myself I'd probably suggest a Danish Oil finish for the table. It's VOC-free which is ideal for an enclosed space like that with limited air flow. Last thing you want are harmful fumes hanging around... And it'll keep the natural wood look whilst adding a little more protection over a simple oil or stain. It's also pretty cheap and extremely easy to apply!
After watching your Videos over 3 Years now and never leaving a Comment i thought it´s finaly Time.
i LOVE your Videos. I like the Intromusic, i enjoy listening to your Voice and i absolutely LOVE the Retroseries. i duno why but it gives me Chills and calms me down so much. Keep on making Videos guy! Greetings from Germany :)
They look like the old space crusade terminators. Nostalgia alert!!!! Love them :)
Real happy to see Mel Bose’s book on your shelf. The man is a legend, as far as I’m concerned
Great, a new Midwinter Minis' video; and some cool Chunkynators. Those Imperial Fists really look like they've stepped out of some eye-popping artwork by Angus McKie.
Huzzay, for Simon! Having a technology teacher as a friend looks to be a great resource.
A 400-year-old house? One of those new-builds, eh? I'm sure it will all settle in properly in another couple of hundred years. 🤔 You painting-area/gaming-area and recording studio look spanking. The toilet and tea-making area are the icing on the cake.
The stripped down version of the outro is very sweet.
Stain the table would be my call. Studio looks inspiring, and open. Good luck keeping it that way! Heart the channel and work you put in!
I have recently got back into warhammer after about a 18 year hiatus because my daughter out of nowhere decided she liked it. I have of course subbed to a good few painters and creators now but there is only 1 I genuinely look forward to watching... and its midwinter minis.
Beware Guy, nothing as permanent as a temporary solution!
These Terminators are gorgeous Guy!
Your techniques are so transferable to other models as well!
This hobby space is a dream coming true!
had doubts about the model choice, until I saw that completed paint job... They look great! Well done
Thank goodness. Someone else who uses the correct name for Dr. Robotnik. Also, I build and refurbish a fair bit of pine furniture - my favourite finish is "Antique Pine" Briwax. It's cheap (about a tenner a can, which would be plenty), easy to apply (rub it into the grain with some steel wool, go have your lunch, then come back and buff it with a clean cloth until the sheen is to your taste), and it looks a lot classier than paint.
Just signed up again to patreon stopped a when I had a bit of a break from the hobby. Once again a midwinter mini video got me back in reminding me how awesome the hobby can be thanks Guy. I remember watching the sandstone Necrons back in the day and the Blackstone series finally got me to paint an entire box game finally. Its time to get my sisters of battle project started :)
Keep doing you! I sincerely hope that you never change your style as at least for me your energy found itself its own little niche in that relaxation hangout feel without the pressure to paint something amazing or feel like i need hobby goals but to just, relax, and enjoy rhe hobby in whatever way that means for me.
good to see you back Guy, your vids have really reignited my hobby motivation after a bit of a slump, so thanks!
So many cool things here, but I think I'm most excited by you exploring new model ranges. Very cool! Love some indie mini manufacturers!
I play Imperial Fists and I "blame" you for getting me into playing 40k. I support you taking up Imperial Fists as your devoted Space Marine chapter
Back in the 90's I made my own wash to paint imperial fists, I added more red to the wash but the process ramains much the same. Well done
I'm sold. Brilliant approach to an intimidating project. Also: RAW WOOD! Lovely new space. Congratulations and continuing good fortune in 2022.
I feel like my dad... "you paint miniatures Guy, you stain wood." Love it man!
You've done a great job with the working space you have created. Lovely. I don't play table top gaming but I used to when I was a kid. I build ww2 dioramas, but painting warhammer figures is how I learnt to paint 25-30 years ago. Love your videos, keep up the good work!
As an imperial fists player this really butters my crumpets, brilliant work Guy!
Your painting tutorials got me started a year ago and now I’m bootstrapping my own hobby channel! So excited to see what the studio opens up for you!
Love the new acoustic version of the outro theme, another classic!
I love that black + aluminum chipped paint look!
Absolutely love these videos, it's definitely just the feeling of sitting in a painting session and watching you work the process.
I can't believe how good that yellow looks.
I think I was subscriber 408. Seeing this channel grow is very cool. The absolute best moment in Midwinter Minis history is Ant pulling up in a van and saying "Get in loser, we're doing butt stuff."
this video is fantastic! I really appreciate your effort to make your tutorials accessible and easy to follow. After watching this I feel confident to start experimenting with yellows on my models! I stumbled across your Beginners guide for 9th edition video and it really made WH40k game play feel approachable. I even showed it to my Mother and she picked up a Adeptus Sororitas kit and we've been painting and watching your videos together ever since! Can't wait to see you future vids in the new studio space!
Oh man! Guy! You are living the dream! All new studio looks excellent, well done! Life is good, I have been watching you since the beginning you are STILL one of (if not) the best and... British too :) ..so closer to home for me. Keep up the brilliant work buddy!!
Congratulations on the new digs! Looks brilliant!
You do have an airbrush, but you are paintting yellow with a brush. You are a madman.
THESE SHALL BE MY 1ST COMPANY! Guy thanks for doing these. Was sorta on the fence about them. But they look absolutely perfect for my crusading Unforgiven chapter. The order of Hexagramatine Knights.
I just remembered those sandstone necrons. To this day I use that method of glowing blue for my lights and lenses!
Awesome new studio, awesome new video! I'm so excited to see more of it! Congratulations on the awesome upgrade! 💛
Awesome new studio and those Saturnine Terminators are... **mwah** perfect 😍
Phenomenal! Love you’r enthusiasm to create exactly what you want. Inspiration to all hobbyists 😊👍
Absolutely my favourite miniature hobbyist on CZcams! Such amazing production values and simple but clever techniques. Always makes my day when I see a new video out. Keep doing you Guy! Love the new studio
Supermassive pairing instruction and recommendations. Thank you, Sir.
These are awesome. I’d love to see you delve further into customizing and kitbashing some imperial fist models
What a great and informative video Guy. Great looking studio; congrats on that. Keep up the wonderful work.
Great job, and German Grey and Royal Purple are a couple of my favorite Vallejo colors!
Guy you look so happy from your intro I'm just so glad to see you like that, it really warms my cold Dark Angel's hearth
Got those terminators a few months back - colour me encouraged to paint them!!! - Welcome back!!
It's wonderful to see a new video up! I've been missing my fix! Straightforward yet undeniably creative, and with results that look mind blowingly good - especially given what conventional wisdom would dictate for the number of steps.
Really Loved these minis and the paintjob! keep up the great work!
