- Guide to upgrading the M.2 SSD (solid-state drive) and SATA HDD (hard disk drive) in the Dell Inspiron 15 3593 Ice Lake equipped laptop.
This is a fairly simple job, needing just a small screwdriver and plastic pry tool.

thanks! I am upgrading memory and adding an additional hardrive to extend the life of my laptop. it's been a minute since I have gone into a laptop so this refreshed my memory and hopefully helped me avoid frustrations!
Although I've been doing those kinds of upgrades for years, I have to congratulate you for explaining all things properly and in detail. Your material is also useful for people like considering buying a laptop but having difficulty finding info about it's upgradeability, since even manufacturers usually give little to no info on that (free slots, etc) which is of course very unfortunate for many of us.
Good job brother, subscribed, keep it up
And a question: Is that the model with a touch screen?
Thanks for the nice comments.
It is the clamshell model without a touchscreen, there is no touchscreen version of the 3593 (here in the UK at least).
@@BrueComputing Right. Looked more into it and there isn't. It was a mistake in a Greek website where I first saw it.

Such a great video. Helped me to fix my Dell with very low cost. Thanks!
Hi - thanks for the video.
I have the model without the dvd, however the motherboard connection exists, so I would like to connect another drive (and have 3 drives). Do you know the cable number item? Thanks
On my Inspiron the --- M2 slot, memory slots and battery were in the exact same place as on your Inspiron. With the nvme drive I just installed, laptop moves 10 times faster with 11 second boot time. Of course I left the original 1TB hard drive/ 5400 RPM/ in place for storage
Great stuff - hope the guide helped!
I have the 3593, thanks to ur video, I was able to upgrade the memory. Your videos are well detailed and explained. I watched the above video in hopes of increasing storage space but got lost in the lingo of components with sata and nvme...... Please assist .
You have two drive options in there - the M.2 slot, which takes a new style M.2 2280 drive of the NVMe type (1TB Crucial P2 M.2 2280 NVMe SSD: amzn.to/3pL2i7o) and a 2.5" SATA bay which can take a traditional mobile HDD/SSD (1TB 2.5" SSD: amzn.to/2K1OjtV).
Sir can u make a video on what are the things to do to clone everything from your hdd to ssd and the things to do in bios after cloning. I really need some help.
I use True Image to do the cloning: czcams.com/video/JV43dmhsQS4/video.html
Is the heating issue a really big problem or it doesn’t matter and does it always heat up or only during hard work???
Loved the Harry Potter ram upgrade at 4:51 ! Nice move!
What NVMe SSD model do you recommend for upgrading my Dell Inspiron 3593 i3 laptop. I will only use it for the system.
Thanks. It's helpful to many that perhaps would just want to swap a HDD.
Interesting, the model with ODD features standard 'desktop' CR2032 battery, but the model without ODD comes with coincell battery with wires.
Thank you, i changed Dell inspiron 3593 HDD to SDD watching this video 😃
Glad it helped!
your upgrade m2 ssd have 3 protrusion but in link it have 2 protrusion what are they diffrent ?
Does it support m. 2 Nvme with the speed of 3000 mb/s or its just a m. 2 ssd up to 500 mb/s ?
Hello, thank you for the video. Do you have any idea if the 128 SSD version can be fitted with an HDD?
Idk about the 128 GB version, but if it's a 128, GB Sata SSD it might got a chance (if it fits), if it's a m.2 SSD then tough luck m8.
Thanks for the bits about the M.2 slot! Cheers!
This really helped me to do my client laptop today
Hi ! I have the same dell model and i noticed that the back plate is blocking the air input by a plastic peace! And that really affects my performance should i remove it ?
Hi, if i want to remove my hard drive and just go with an SSD, will the BIOS need to be reset or reconfigured? Could i also reformat the HHD for a back up drive.
Hi there. My Insp 3593 came set up as a RAID array with the m2.sata and the mechanical SATA drive. The drive activity is always pinned at 100%, so I thought I could relieve that by upgrading the SATA drive to an SSD drive. But I'm not clear on how to do that given that I'm coming from a RAID setup. Do you have any tips on how to replace just one of the two drives of the RAID array? Or another strategy? The SSD (Crucial) comes with Acronis cloning software. Thanks!
How do I know where do the long and short screws go? I kind of messed up and put the wrong places. Does it matter?
Hi Bruce! Great video, thanks a lot for it.
If I may ask; since this laptop cooling isn't that great, how is it doing after adding the secondary ram module & the M.2 ssd?
It doesn't really have any negative impact from that perspective.
@@BrueComputing Thanks a million!
What is the RAM model that comes with this laptop?
Many Many Thanks for your video.
Thanks. I MUST disconnect battery! Like you did. (I am about to install an NVME in same laptop but has no DVD) What speeds for your new SSD install?
You don't HAVE to disconnect the battery, but it is recommended as it avoids the risk of connecting or disconnecting a device with the laptop powered up and causing damage.
Speed of the SSD will depend on what you fit.
@@BrueComputing Thanks! I rather disconnect the battery. So I did so on Friday (using a spudger) and installed more memory and a West Digital nvme drive. My Inspiron laptop moves very fast now. On the reads/writes it is now 2460/1800 so I am very pleased. Your video got me motivated to do it_________ For disk cloning I used an old version of Aomei which was completely functional. Look on the www and they are out there. The new "free" versions try to make you buy Aomei
Very handy, thank you

hi i have laptop dell inspiron 3593, i7 and 8 gb ram..but my laptop doesn't have CD slot.. may I know which ssd should I buy.. I planning to buy Silicon Power NVMe PCIe Gen3x4 M.2 2280 SSD.. does it compatible with my laptop? TQ

My dell 3593 i5 model has the bottom vent covered with plastic from the inside.
What about this model ?
I want to buy the Core i3 of that computer but I am worried if the vent is covered with plastic at the bottom makes it run hot? I do not play games at all. I just want to use it to write on it and browse internet and CZcams.
Thanks very helpful
Are they all torx screws and what size please.
You saved my skin. Thank you.
Glad I could help!
Hi James,
Can we replace the 2.5" SATA HDD with an SSD in the (256GB+1TB HDD model).
Because, I have some click clack sounds coming off from the laptop at the boot and shutdown of the laptop.
Please comment your reply....
Yes.
How did you get the start up software from the SATA hard drive to the new SSD? Thanks
I clone it across with True Image: czcams.com/video/JV43dmhsQS4/video.html
can i use M.2 NVMe ssd gen 3x4 in Inspiron 3583 ?
I have a Dell 3593 like in your video but I have one 512SSD and want to add another SSD to add more space.. I have no cd drive. Can I put the new ssd in the spot where the satr hard went. Of course with an adapter.. thumbs up on your video
Thanks. If your machine doesn't have a HDD installed you may find that you need to source the HDD cable and mounting bracket - I ordered a model with HDD specifically for this reason. If you do check then let me know!
Does your model has bottom vent opened or covered with plastic?
Can you provide a sample hdd model that matches this notebook? I only have ssd and need more memory (1tb). greetings
If you only have an SSD then you'd need to open it up and see if you actually have an internal SATA connector and the associated bracketry. If you don't you'd either need to source the parts, or fit a larger M.2 SSD, eg. amzn.to/3dZryQk
Can you pls recommend best sdd for this model?
Recently i bought this model laptop with a procesor - Intel Core i5-1035G1. By default there is 8gb of ram, i want more up to 16gb. other components i will leave by default. Will it work corectly?
Yes, a second DDR4-2666 8GB module should work fine: amzn.to/35aBMJM
Lets say I have just a hdd and I add an ssd is there a way i can just run windows on the ssd
Can i use sata ssd instead of nvme ssd?
Hi. I need to know the brand of the factory HDD.
What speed is the 4gb factory RAM?
Does this model include a control battery charge adjustment? (Bios or windows software?)
Thanks a lot.

HI.. I recently got a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming i7 from an auction. It is without the SSD, has hard drive only. I have been trying to install windows but it fails. Could it be that there is no SSD?

about 3 hours if you aren’t doing anything too power hungry

is this model compatible with the wifi 6 card ax201?
In this video the ssd is m.2 nvme sata 3 right ?
i have 3593 with 10th generation I am unsure shall I buy m.2 2280 which you used or I can install nvme too?
M.2 2280 drives can be NVMe or SATA - I fitted an NVMe type M.2 2280.
Hi there, can the M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD fit the SSD slot? Thanks.
Although I used a SATA M.2 drive, I believe the slot supports both types - the service manual references Intel Optane modules which are PCIe.
@@BrueComputing Thanks, Bruce. I think the Dell manual mentioned that the Inspiron 15 3953 would support the M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD.
What are the dimensions on that optical drive?
Max. Ram support of this laptop is 32 gb. ? ! Is it true?
Can I remove the HDD altogether and just install a 1TB SSD.
Yes.
Hello, can i upgrade the wifi module to intel ax21ngx model
Yes, should work fine.
Will Inspiron 15 3521 support 1TB SSD?
Can you open the inspiron without the prying tool? Cause i only have a screwdriver
Spend a couple quid on a pry tool, or use something like an old credit card. A screwdriver will mark the plastic and make a horrible mess.
Thank you
You're welcome!
Thanks a lot
Happy to help!
I am having the same machine, so i'd like to know what are the dimension of the M.2 SSD?
Isn't it the same for every m.2

Is the Wi-Fi-card upgradable, I want to put my AX200 or AX210 in there.
Should be possible.
Can we upgrade processor in dell 3593
remove i3 and install new one i5 or i7
No, the only way to upgrade the CPU would be to fit a new mainboard.
Hey! i want to ask if i want to have both hdd ans ssd then i have to buy m.2 ssd or sata ssd? please reply
in dell 3593, the HDD is in the sata slot, you can put ssd in m2 nvme (empty slot)
What will be the cost of this upgrade
I recently bought Inspiron 15 3593 i5 variant. It has 1T HDD.
Can I upgrade it to SSD (primary) and use the HDD as secondary?
Yes, inside is the same architecture.
Does your laptop heating quickly? I buy the same one last week it's fan is louder and heating quickly 😔
@@yagneshpatel4265 Yes, heating quickly in depence of loading of CPU around 100 degree celsius and fan increases speed sometimes up to 5200 RPM. In idle temperatures are around 65-75 , 20 degrees celsius ambient temperature. My CPU are I7-1065G7. You may install Dell power managment from Dell.com and choose "Cool mode" in Thermal managment.

I have the same model 3593 with 1TB HDD, and I bought a samsung 860 evo 500GB SSD to replace it , and the SSD slowdown from 6Gb/s to 3Gb/S, when I go to dell community and open a new thread, dell customer asked me the SSD bought from dell or not, so they limited all SSD that is not bought from dell to make more money, because they slowdown user bought SSD to 3Gb/s, my good feeling with dell end at this day.
10:50 doesnt void the warranty as long as you have original parts for exchange with technician. dell technicians are outsourced and get paid for replacement. they are not gonna deny warranty cos they wont get paid
Good info, thanks.
Thank you. That is supperb
Glad you liked it!
I have bought a Dell Inspiron 15 3593 core i5 laptop. Which SSD and ram is the best for it.
I normally fit Crucial.
Brue computing
Can you tell me
Is the m2 port is pcie x2 or x4 length
Also can you upload a video of that laptop showing the ssd benchmarks... Pls.. :(
The length doesn't dictate the PCIe lanes - it can take either M.2 2230 (30mm length) or M.2 2280 (80mm length) drives.
The slot is keyed for PCIe 4x Gen 3 devices, but I didn't test a 4x device or run any benchmarks - I no longer have the laptop (I only kept it a couple weeks to make videos) so can't help with this.
@@BrueComputing thanks for the response..
I am sorry i really got the length part wrong
I Actually meant the bandwidth
Although i purchased a transcend nvme ssd 220s 256 GB
And saw it supports pcie x4
Glad i got confirmed...
Thanks again
I have this same laptop. But shall I install a 8 GB RAM or a SSD? Which will be better for satisfactory performance?
SSD will have a far greater impact on startup times and responsiveness than additional RAM
@@BrueComputing thanks for your kind information
WIthout DVD drive ...would've been great. Can we remove the same?
Yes, basically the same process, you just don't have the DVD drive.
Is it possible to upgrade the CPU for this laptop
No. Very few modern laptops have CPUs which can be upgraded without replacing the entire mainboard - only a few gaming machines based on desktop components.
Hi sir, I have dell inspiron 15 300, 4GB ram, I5 core 10th gen.. It was quite slow whenever I perform even a simple task.. Can you suggest me some possible option or advice to achieve a better perfermonce 😕
If you dont have a SSD, swap out your hard drive first for an SSD. Then upgrade your 4GB RAM to 8GB. It will double the speed of your computer.
@@blahblahblahblah2837 thank you sir, it was a good thing to ask I don't even have an ample amount of idea about laptop upgrades.. :)
@@blahblahblahblah2837 another thing sir, is it possible for me to just add an SSD(replacing disk drive) to have 2drive within my laptop, or should I really need to change my primary drive to SSD... Does the placement of SSD as main drive in laptop impact its performance? Sorry for the inconvenience Im not really into techne stuff😢😭
@@sicguan4223 Hi Cguan, Im no expert myself, but I think to improve bootup speed and performance when running programs, you do need to shift the primary drive to the SSD. Otherwise the computer still has to read the system information off the slow drive right? You can use the slower secondary HDD for storage of things you don't use as often (photos, videos, big datasets etc). There is lots of software to help shift all of your stuff from one drive to another and sometimes new SSDs come with that software included
Thank you verry much for a great recommendation :)
Does this laptop support m2 NVMe ssd
Please tell me
No, only a 2.5" SATA drive.
Sir upto how much ssd we can insert in this laptop
You can fit 2 x SSDs, one 2.5" SATA and one M.2 2280 NVMe type drive.
Capacity should be for whatever will fit, so up to 8TB in each.
Realistically I'd consider the follow (Amazon Affiliate links):
SATA 2TB: amzn.to/3i0ENnp
M.2 2280 NVMe 2TB: amzn.to/38to60r
Is this Nvme PCI e SSD belongs to Gen 3*4, protocol : Nvme ?
It is PCIe 3.0 - I didn't check if it is 2x or 4x electrically however.
@@BrueComputing Can you check and confirm it's gen 3*4 or other ?
can i put SSD on that HDD slot ?
Yes, a 2.5" SATA SSD will go in.

Thank you so much for the video! Just 3 questions
I see your M.2 has 2 pin openings but the slot on the laptop has 1. So it will still work?
Also, I'm planning on buying a 250GB M.2 NVME drive with only one slot, should this SSD fit and work? Lastly, if I only want to ad the M.2, is it still necessary to disconnect the power cable. I feel a bit nervous pulling out cables. Thanks again!
Yes, the SSD has 2 keying positions so it'll fit in to B or M keyed slots - it works just fine. Its a PCIe 3.0 2x drive.
You don't HAVE to disconnect the battery, but I would recommend it, it means you aren't going to accidentally be disconnecting and reconnecting things with the laptop turned on.
