Wow! This is great! I searched for a week but only found videos about how to make or use a store-bought jig for making all sizes of bowstrings for everybody and anybody. I just wanted to make a string for my recurve bow. Thanks. So happy I found you!

Keep in mind, -3" from the bow length is for longbows....for recurves you want -4". Reflex/deflex should be -3.5".
    Awesome video, thanks for sharing!

Great video! Curious about the different string materials. I've always heard not to use "fast flight" materials for recurves. Can you explain? Bowstrings are getting so expensive now and I have a small collection of recurves, so seriously considering making my own. It was a little hard to see what you were doing when you started twisting the strings together. I think I will have to watch again. Thanks.

Good question! Making your own strings is definitely cheaper so I would encourage anyone to go that route! A lot of older books say not to use fast flight or other low stretch string options however most recurve companies use low stretch stings now because of the improved performance in arrow speed. For a while they thought it would place too much shock on the tips and limbs but even a properly made self bow with a good tiller will not break because of a low stretch string. I have a few old fiberglass recurves, one being a Bear from the 50’s and none have had any problems, if your are concerned place more imbedded strings in the tips when you make them (or serving around the string ends) for more padding

Thank you Vern! Great to hear from you, we had a fun adventure and I need to do more of them, the canned elk meat was one of the highlights for me.

Wtf do you mean no jig? You literally use a jig.
No jig no nothing is when you use just the string and your hands.
