An important detail: you should NEVER feel knee pain (or any kind of pain actually) when you use swivel. As I said in the video, the important thing here is to be relaxed constantly. You don't have to bruteforce swivel your ankles like a mad man. Be relaxed and cool.
If you feel like it, you can stretch your knees using this: • Video

In my opinion, this is the best video for learn the swivel technique, thank bro
One of the best Swivel explanations I've ever seen
Very nice and helpfull video! You answered all my questions I had with this video!
Easily the best and most informative swivel video that i've seen online. You answered all the simplest questions that get people who want to learn pointed in the right direction. Thank you!
The most informative video on swivel and I don’t speak French (it’s French right) but killer job explaining it.
You know, it's 2018 and I honestly was searching for a video like this since 2013. You just nailed it! The BEST video I found in the internet!! Great work!
Hahahahaha, i don't know how to explain this, but the way he's so good at explaining, makes me laugh in joy because I think i'll be able to do it the next time i practice it xD Great vid!!
it takes a long time before you're able to "combine" the two sides. Unfortunately I don't have any secret trick to reveal, it's just that after a while, it... clicked. Simple as that.
Max tempo I'd say 300 but I'm totally NOT comfortable playing at this speed, it takes a lot of effort and anyway I'll never have to play 300 bpm in my whole drumming career so it doesn't matter, hah. 270-280 is when it starts to get really hard?
I can play on demon drives no problem, probably a solid 240-250.
Best swivel clip on internet 😃
Very good and detailed, can't wait to try it out!
The best swivel toturial , thanks!
Hey man,
Martin here from the GK Forum (Zer0MT). Loved the video and just thought I'd pass on my regards.
I never consciously thought to get into swivel but wanted to check you out anyway and that technique is really working for you - so fast and clean!
Great stuff man, keep the knowledge and help flowing! =)
Merci beaucoup.
Really great explanation! Like this...
Thanks so much!!! this was amazing!!!!
Excellent vidéo! Très bien expliqué!
"Depuis ça marche. " Haha!
Perfect demonstration. !
An excellent explanation
Also well done!!
You have this technique down and I know how many hours it’s taken
thank you very much for this very detailled video...i first got the technique wrong by touching the pedal just with my toes while holding the heels quite high in the air. with your help it goes much easier and faster too. thanks again and best wishes :)
It isn't uncontrollable since, you said it yourself, I have to consciously catch the rebound of the spring. It's not a nervous flinch, it's an entirely controlled motion.
"The only time the swivel was a topic was for two or three hits in succession"
Thanks a lot!! It's been awesomely helpfull!!!
Increíble, todo bien explicado, felicitaciones.
Thanks.
I can use this technique on pretty much every pedal, Elim's included. Just can't reach ultra high speeds but I can still use it around 220-230 pretty comfortably. Don't switch pedals if you don't feel like it! :)
Superbe vidéo et en français ! Que demande le peuple !
Tres bien!! thanks for sharing man!!
excelente explicacion, gran tutorial .. gracias ;)
Excellent tutoriel :)
merci beaucoup. technique très bien expliquée.
J’aime votre explication. Merci.
Boston MA
Trés bien dévellopée ... Merci Nico
Gracias,por los subtítulos
C'est trés bien le video !!! Salut de l'Espagne!!
Thanks a lot man
Ok,j vais continuer à bosser alors,il faut absolument que j y arrive!merci encore.
Really great explanation..esp the 4-6 months of practice before you got it right...haha..Thx bro ...
knee problems: not that I know of. It never hurts me but I can feel after a good training session that they have worked a lot. Dunno if that makes much sense.
Seat height: I always put it at the lowest possible setting (or near lowest depending on the seat) + I sit quite far away from the kit. It's by far the most comfortable position I've found.
Bigger beater distance: I've tried but then it's harder for me to control the hits. Beater weights not necessary, just try them and see :)
Thanks man!
buen video , gracias!!!
Merci! 🤗🎵
Merci! Really good :-)
Merci beaucoup tu as répondu à mon questionnement.
Merci beaucoup!
Magnifique!
Im using trick dominators hope i can do this haha good video
Great video Nicolas, no doubt the best swivel tutorial yet. I have been working on it and its coming along. I just wanted to ask you do you have a seating preference for this technique ? Do you sit medium high with your legs extending forward somewhat rather than a 90 degree angle. Thanks much for the video !
Hi dude. I've found that what works best for me is a low seat height - generally I'm just a couple of turns away from the lowest position. I'm more comfortable this way, but then everything is a tad harder to reach, so you have to find the right balance. Also, I sit quite far away from the kit - I'd say 100-110° leg angle. Hope this helps
Merci! Thank you!
Your video demonstration provides an excellent level of detail about the various aspects of the swivel technique. I have seen it done in a few videos but yours it the best.
I had a question about whether or not your ankles are sore or hurt while using this approach to double-bass drumming? Also, do you notice if the method decreases overall fatigue in your playing?
There's zero pain in the ankles. They don't do a lot really, because the swinging motion comes from above, at the knees. If you push too hard you'll strain your knees and thighs. It's important to always be relaxed when playing: if you start feeling pain, you should stop immediately and try a different, maybe softer, approach.
I suppose you could hurt your ankles if you swivelled your toes rather than your heels, because the motion would come from the ankles; but then again I don't see any logical reason to do this, so you should be OK.
Amazing control. :o
Hey man! Awesome tutorial! Thanks!
Questions!
- You use swivel at all tempos or its just between 200+?
- When you discovered swivel you started practising with it metronome?
THANKS!
is it strictly necessary to lift the toes? I am practicing it only with socks on an iron cobra 200, and when I lift my fingers I find it difficult to stay on the pedal platform all the time, while I am doing the movement sideways. My foot slides sideways when I lift my toes
hello, most people say that when this technique is playing at high speed, loses quite the intensity of the beat on the bass drum, (gets weaker) I really like this technique, I am studying it, the more you know tell me if I can "punch "the bass drum the same way no matter the speed, ie if I can maintain a high speed with the definition of the bass drum? maintain the intensity of the beat?. Thank you!
Thanks for this video man.. It really helps and encourages me a lot.. But I still got some question.. Is it possible to have a different techniques on each foot? Because my right foot technique is heel up, but it's really hard for me to use the heel up on my left foot.. I've found that my left foot is better in swiveling.. Is it possible to play heel up with my right foot and swivel on my left foot? Thanks man! Cheers :)
très bonne vidéo, beaucoup d'explications assez clair ! :)
My right patella hurts when I am doing the swivel technique, even if it's on slow tempo, is if normal? I am not doing something forced, but it hurts...
Helps if you watch the full video
Subtitles are here!
Do you ever get knee or ankle pain from this technique? Do you warm up your legs before playing? Great video
THATGUY4474 If you're flexing any part of your legs, you may end up with muscle soreness, but that's essentially the equivalent to a leg workout. Also, you should always be stretching/warming up before you play, it loosens the muscles and prevents cramps. Hope this helps.
Merci
Very good video with a lot of great advice i personally play swivel but on a chain driven pedal i cant go more than 190 - 200 bpm do you think maximizing my spring would make it a bit easier ?
Yes, increasing your spring tension makes you able to play faster.
Thanks!!! One question, i have a pearl eliminator 2002p... Which tension do you advice for me? :)
spyrozone100 I would try at first with maximum spring tension and see how that works out with you. Generally more tension means more rebound (and thus speed) but less control. Try to find the right balance for you
Merci beaucoup!!!!!!!! :D
yes you can
Hey Nicolas, thx for the video! One question: when i use the heel up technique i use a lot of power from my leg. Is the swivel technique completely Without this leg power? Cheers
Felix Dorn from the information that I gathered it is mostly an ankle motion rather than leg, when going into higher speeds, the faster you play the less leg power you use until there is no leg power
Don't worry man I'll make English subs very soon!
Hey Dude!! this video helped me a lot!! thank you so much!. I got many quetions, if you could answer them it would be more helpfull... I can do the swivel motion on both sides but when i wanna "combine them" y fuck up :(.
What is the max temo you can go with swivellinG?
DO you think you can play this on demon drives?
in which tempo do you started practicing swivell? THANKS A LOT
It looks so easy and effortless . When you explained the inertia of the pedal that made perfect sense
C'est rigolo le point of view.
What spring tension do your pedals have?
Yes, you can do it on any pedal. I suggest tightening your springs though as I've found the results are better with more rebound.
Thank you!
Great video! Is it ok to start slow and build speed? Everyone else says start the swivel at 170bpm but I cant play 170! I need to develop from slow speed is that ok? Is that how you did it?
Of course you can. I started learning this technique very at slow tempos to get the motion down and play it through mid tempo stuff to really get muscle memory locked in.
@@joshrichards6486 Thanks for the reply! I know man I've been developing this for a little bit and I'm at like 140 - 150bpms but everywhere you go these guys say that it can't be developed from slow speeds. Sounds rediculous to me but they're the experts.... Good to know you did what I'm trying to do thanks.
the drummer from slaughter to prevail uses this technique, and he is soooo fucking fast
Merci d'avance
+TheBoomerdinho Tu as mal où ?
