11 years ago we uploaded a video called 'How To Install a Boost Gauge DIY'. MCM was brand new and had only been on CZcams for 8 weeks! Technology sure has changed a lot so now 11 years later, we're doing it again and showing you how it's done with OBD2. This week there will be 2 episodes showing you two different options for gauges. We also have MCM T-shirts back in stock (link in description) if you'd like to support the show. Enjoy! And you can check out the original 2008 episode here: czcams.com/video/0-JieFM0MHA/video.html
Nice guys! I love mine in my tuned Mk6 GTI.
You can also get their Track Pack chip which is a 1 minute swap. Gives you more timing options for acceleration and braking.

Man, I remember that episode, it makes me laugh everytime.
StreatBeatsAudio Subwoofers I absolutely love it how they kept this joke going. It feels like an inside joke for the ol timers
Aaaaaand rake loves it
one of my cousin started watching mcm asked me why they jack up car? i just smiled
We miss this kinda videos guys!!! "old mcm music" and DIY :)
Oliver Silva we need more
would you happen to know the name of the dnb track around 3 minutes in?
"Hang out for the Evo" I hung out. "We'll show you the Evo next episode" Is it cool if I just hang out inside your house until the next GoT episode too ?
You'll be waiting a while boss.
Someone say house party @ Moogs place?
Music should be decent :)
$500 AUS whoa! They're laughing to the bank...
No wayyyyy I'd pay that much. It's bullshit
@@jasenrock I know right! super cheap!!
The Brown RAT link?
Yeah I had a quick look online before they said that and thought "Damn these are expensive, maybe i'm looking at the wrong things". That idea is straight out the window. For that money you might as well get some real gauges. You'll get more options and usability that way, and they look better imo.
Conversion rate and cost to ship it down under including import tax. We get slumped like that for almost anything.

1. Jack Up Your Car
that has to be one of the cleanest "Mighty Car Mod" installs I have seen in a long time!
I have a P3 multi in my Mk6 GTI freaking love it!
Mustardwolf yep same. Great little unit. Perfect placement.
This episode is great it feels reminiscent of the old old MCM....
Jack from Horsepower Logic in FL, USA just did one of these in his TDi.
yeh watched that this morning :0
literally thinking about that coincidence too
same.
Great minds think alike!
i've had one these in my mk5 gti for a few years and I love it, super clean look and also added the A/F ratio option as well.
Ive been debating on buying this guage for my mk6! Thanks for the video!! I'm so glad you're doing Volkswagen mods again!!
I hope you ended up getting a gauge for your mk6.
$500 for something that runs off a VGA port wow.
r232 serial connector, but yes, jesus that is steep.
Seems like we're paying for their R&D to make different displays for varying vent types. It's really worth $200-$300 tops.
I'd rather just do pillar pods for that price lol
The DE-9 connector (VGA) is a CANbus standard. OBD2 uses the CANbus as a way of communicating. This display hooks into the CANbus data stream and listens for the info it needs.
Honest they’re awful, basically don’t work and the numbers are completely off, all for 300 dollars sheeeesshhh
wow blue ball us with a "Stick around for the Evo!... in the next episode
hahahaha "blue ball us"
i was thinking the same thing lol
This was more of a commercial for the boost gauge and Ryobi then it was an actual episode
I thought I was just being overly cynical
@@capnskiddies nope this was crap just like Mira's and Evo's
Loving like always guys. Look forward to the Evo guage install. That golf install is super super clean.
Wow that was pretty cool, and nice shirt. IRON MAIDEN RULES. Great video as always love the content
Just watch Jack from HP logic install one of them P3 on his TDI Golf pretty cool gauge..
LOL I watched Jack's video earlier today, then this comes out
Yea watched that video yesterday
MOPAR MAN great minds think alike
Jack Cecil they sure do 👍
Jack Cecil you're way better than these wacks. At least you know what you're talking about and know how to tune.....
I won't lie I got super excited when I saw a MCM notification. Even tho I'm not disappointed this awesome episode was not what I was expecting from all the build up.
Hey y’all, been a fan of the show a few years now. Great content, really digging the disrespected vids. The head mounted cam is pretty slick too.
Thank you for the info & the laughs.
thanks Robert for taking the time to let us know!
it cracks me up every time when moog says martin lol
Looks really clean and subtle. But like you say, 500 bucks isn't cheap but you can't argue with that stealthy look.
Not sure i'd be forking out that amount for a guage though
The functionality of these things are great. I don't want some crappy round dial on a modern car so I like the slick look of these things. I also don't have a nice way of showing digital dials on my stock BMW iDrive screen and I don't really wanna pay the same money as this just to add two gages on it, so for me this is a great upgrade.
Seriously the sexiest mod integrated in the car vent that I’ve ever seen. Super clean
Old school MCM video! I love it
I was going to order a p3 for my 235i, but I'll wait to see what Marty is getting
Hey did you ever end up getting a gauge in your 235?
I had the P3 on my supercharged Toyota 86. It was fantastic and an easy install. Good choice guys. Stealthy as always 👌🏼
Each one of those MCM videos is a fucking blessing I just realized.
YES I JACK UP MY CAR BEFORE GOING TO WORK EVERY MORNING
Jesus that price..we need to make an open source friendly one with a cut to size blank!
$10 bluetooth obd II port, $5 torque pro app, $5 cell phone mount > $300-500 gauge
Loved this episode, something almost anyone can do and very informative. love the crazy builds but this is the sort of thing that made me subscribe a long time ago
How good is this guys, ppl were complaining that MCM lost their way, right or wrong. Then Marty and Moog step up and produce even better content, fuckin A. Cheers fellas.
Wish P3 made stuff for the Focus ST/RS
You got the GTI gauge not the R one.
The R has a blue bar not red.
Readings would still be the same, she'll be right mate!
Yeah I no it just goes better with all the blue lights through the car.
I have no intention of doing this to my car, but watching it made me happy. Glad to have a little install video like back in the day!!!
glad you liked it mate!
I always enjoy your videos. Watching people do what they enjoy, and having a laugh while doing it brings me joy. Carry on dudes.
I love my p3 gauge in my b8.5 s4! Super clean oem look, speed timers are fun.
500 AUD? tell em they're dreamin.
What’s the first song playing after the title credits? It’s like 2001 Trance all over again, I love it!
Very subtle and classy I like!
That gauge is slick as.
Very impressed with it.
On humid days I get condensation on my AC vents, I wonder if that would be an issue for the gauge?
You could probably use a little insulating tape on the back side to keep the wires and the back of the display dry.
It probably heat up just enough cause of the lights inside
My first thought was that being in the vent, that display is going to get wrecked from full blast AC or heat. Heat on an LCD can be especially bad.
Pretty sure it would be like a watch...hopefully for that price point
@Ben Ward for 500 aud you would assume they would design around that issue
@10m16s: Top Gear's James May wants to program the Golf to tell you (very rarely) : "Why Don't You Go Boil Your Head."
Hmmm some fresh MCM tutorial for the lunch break... Love it !
Thanks for doing this for the VW / Euro fans guys! I always wondered how this specific gauge works and if it was worth to get for my VW GLI or Audi S4. It is also quite expensive to get it from ECS tunning here in the US, much more expensive than the classic gauges, and I personally prefer the classic gauges since I like to see the needles moving as you get on it, but this installation is super clean!! So I kinda want to give it a go for one of my Euro cars... but something I am not a fan of is that you need to use the OBD2 por for this... I wish there could be a way to hard-wire it to the car instead of using the port.
Aaaannd... you guys didn't need to do any soldering... just plug an play.
Keep it up guys!! You guys are a huge inspiration for my car projects and my future channel, Baja Brothers Garage :)
The standard p3 gauge without the analog boost sensor can only read up to 22psi, so with the car running a larger turbo plus tune you really aren't going to see the correct boost levels.
I was wondering about that. I ended up getting a normal analog gauge because I wasn't sure the P3 would be accurate, especially with a tune.
Fo sho on this, thankfully our analog sensor can just plug right into the harness, no wiring required.
@@FinalFormation You can add an analog sensor to our gauge at any time so you can pull all the OBD2 data AND get analog boost at the same time.
Next build: Geo Metro please
Holden Barina in Australia.
Cody Diek Thanks. I figured you guys also got blessed with that shitbox just under a different name.
Marty, Moog. I want to thank you guys from the bottom of my heart for bringing back the jack up your car joke. It gives me a laugh every time.
You guys make me so happy. Thank you.
"there is all sorts of information going into your computer..." hold up.. did you just ASSUME my car has an ecu? 2019 man, cars can run on hopes and dreams...
1993 d250... 12v cummins- whats an ECU? Haha. EMP proof.
aside from My 89 Ford 'Stang, 90 Honda Accord, and my (currant) 98 Nissan p/u, all my cars have been ECU-less. and only the Mitsu p/u had an electronic ignition. Stone knives and bearskins people!
@@jpkalishek4586 yeh, i got a 77 lancer and a 74 mini.. no computer in sight. also have a 01 wrx but lets not talk about that one... that seems to be the closest to going kablamo at the moment
Unless those cars have has them removed they all have ECUs they are some form of OBD1. Less functions and hard to find a reader for them but you can pull codes off of them and they are computers. My 85 F250 was OBD1 and it was carbureted. Most cars from the 80s on had ECUs and you can find some with them all the way back to the 60s.
I don't think they assumed that. But, yaknow, if you *want* a modernly-computerized engine, call Haltech or someone like that, or go ahead and put analog gauges in. :)
3 am, was about to go sleeping, but MCM is priority, sleep isn't a priority.
I love mine! Only downside is that it only displays one piece of information at a time, besides that it gives you a lot of info! It also displays trouble codes, so no need to disconnect it when the CEL comes on (which it will on that VW😉)
Awesome, sold on the Soldering Iron, going to buy one as soon as they are available :)
Maadd! Should've painted it blaack! Also, does Rake love it?
What ever happened to rake?
Used Air-vent is a thing... If you had a round one you can added a turbo bar in as well...
$500!.....tell him he’s dreamin
its fucking worth it
Love you guys keep up the good work. From denver Colorado
Awesome to see a classic style MCM episode... oh wait, that thing is still hecking expensive! - well, indeed you can't argue given the fitment, after all that company has to engineer different units altogether for all sorts of cars while probably selling just a few hundred of each at most. If OEM-like fitment is important, you really can't expect much less.
Also: that gauge is just $100 less than what my whole car costed... eheh
Damn Jack from HP Logic just installed one of these
This is good but ironically the stock vw mfd shows you a lot of these anyway.
No zero to sixty which is awesome no battery voltage no boost gauge it does show the speed but the coolant temp is a sweeping dial in the tach not digital
Now this is a throwback kind of mood
560! Still 240kw’s until the #400kw achievements unlocked. Great to see a callback style DIY basics vid.
I'm sorry, did you just say it costs over 500 dollars?!
Why not take an obd2 scanner and just pull up the live data. Lol
I run an obd2 Bluetooth dongle and view the real time data through torque, but it is very laggy. Ok when you are used to it but not truly real-time. The available readings are also limited which can be frustrating so a hard wired option does have it’s advantages.... I’m just too cheap to cough up for the proper thing when I can have a dull witted one on my phone for less than a fiver!😂
Moog you’re supposed to move that top slat down one so the adjustment is bang in the middle. Mine fell apart numerous times and I think I remember crying at one point so a top install guide nonetheless! Love the channel, regards from North Wales UK 🏴
Finally some good ole MCM classic mods.

It's probably time that MCM did a spin-off channel for rich dude mods.
The grass roots folk are getting left behind because the mods are becoming unaffordable
Feels like OG MCM. Awesome video boys!!
The 9 way D-Type connector "VGA" is quite common in the automotive industry. the system must read CAN signals from the onboard gateway (brains of the operation). Each CAN signal refers to a certain message ie; vehicle speed, throttle position, heated seats ect... so you could read most of anything off a devices like this.
what? 500 bucks? hell no

That gauge looks sick🔥
Clean mod didnt realize that was a thing. Goin to look into it.
Impressive how far this stuff has come... In my Legnum I use the UTcomp... very customize-able but a lot of the programming and installation is up to the user..And the crappy fact that Mitsubishi use a different OBD language to everyone else so a simple and cheap option is tough... The OEM clock position works the best but I Totally love the idea of the Vent option...Easy and classy install there.... shame there's not an OLED option.... YET!! Nice work.. Hope the drone is ok!
