    That Laney brought some memories. I had a Laney Tube Fusion 100 solid state amp back in the day when I was really into The Shadows. With the "Bright" switch turned on, that Laney gave quite authentic The Shadows guitar sound with my '83 MIJ Squier. Its gain channel was not something to sniff at, but it was the clean channel which was wonderful to me.

    Honestly the hybrid lunchbox heads are a better way to go. A joyo zombie and 1x12 loaded with a v30 will run under $400 from thommans. Or the new peavy mini heads are relatively inexpensive($400ish) and sound badass. Also the joyo mjolnir ($450ish) is a great option as well and a great entry level tube amp. The combo amp is honestly a poor investment these days, just because the micro heads are so good, cheap and there are so many flavors anymore, you can't really go wrong.

    The blackstar tvp is not only a great beginner amp at the 15w to 30w range (BTW, the bookmark in the video says you have have 15w version) but I love it as my top end big boy amp with the same things expressed in a 2x12. Tvp 260. I've played it with the volume past 12'oclock with a live drummer right next to me. That tvp line is an absolute beast if you want to go all out with that particular sound. The crazy part is despite it being 2x12 vs 1x12, my Blackstar Club ht40 Kentucky (6l6 tubes) is even more fierce than the tvp. It probably hangs with a live band effortlessly.
    Blackstar is obviously my preference but whether I'm playing metal or pop, I have always preferred a metal TONE to express whatever it is I'm playing in. And with that mindset I have found a comfortable home with blackstars products. Their high end stuff is amazing and their lower end stuff doesn't sacrifice tone quality either. It's worth mentioning Blackstar also makes great "beginner" tube amps. Some nice sounding lower powered/single tube powered amps and many of their recent products include switches to tone down the watts to 2 to 6.

  • @95Sn95

    I thought the orange sounded the worst, it seemed to have good sounding processing but a lousy driver or something maby it would sound amazing thru headphones. It just had such a small inside a bucket sound, the mini amp had almost as big of a sound, the Marshal and blackstar and VOX all had a "big" rich sound almost like a cabinet Marshal imo was best. But it's all over video so maby I'm wrong. I was super impressed with the Laney mini amp was big sounding for being so tiny plus the app was kinda cool. I may buy one of those for just messing around, wonder how it would sound with EMG 81/60 pickups. The VOX mini was decent too imo.

      Cool- I was looking at one of these- considering a100 watt version of it. Really good for different kinds of metal, then? I've a Player series Strat (HSS)- while not a "Metal" guitar, I was wanting to get a variety of sounds with it (Blues, Jazz, Southern Rock, and THE METAL...) The one he's playing here sounds really cool! Rock on, Wayne!

    • @waynebridger4998
      @waynebridger4998 Před 4 lety +1

      If you set the clean channel at full volume and then all the others to match the volume output with varying amounts of gain like I have, then all you really need to touch is that master volume. I can’t get mine above 2 on the dial without it being major loud. Even for church on a Sunday the way I have it set means that it’s loud.
      Also, I’m not traditionally a metal player, I love blues and blues rock.
      I found Slash amp settings on here and use them across all the channels with the different gain. Clean, overdrive, distortion full gain.
      The mid control on the amp is very powerful so I’d recommend Bass 7, Mid 6.5, Treble 6.
      The 50 is plenty loud enough, trust me, with a 12” speaker it’s all you need, I traded my Orange CR60 for this and I do not regret it one bit

    I'm brand new at guitar. Since the Marshall is a combo amp does that mean I don't need a distortion pedal for it?

      You don't "need" one but distortion pedals will give you different sounds depending on the amp/pedal combo, for example, if you find the amp doesn't provide the distorted tone you are looking for, then a pedal may give you more/better distortion. There are also fuzz and overdrive pedals which will further differentiate the tone.

      if I understand your question, a "combo" amp is just when the amplifier and the speaker(s) are in the same cabinet.

    Sorry for awkward questions, im new in guitars, does he use pedals to get these distortions and overdrives? Or its the amp itself?

    The amplug is great that little speaker wasn't nearly as good as using headphones I have taken it with my on holiday a few times now cuz all my dads gear is for blues.
