That would be awesome. Same cab with different speakers would also bbe great.
To me this just reinforces how the majority of the tone of a rig is in the cabinet / speakers. The Dark Terror was the only one that had a particularly different tone to it out of all of them. All of them had their own subtle 'characters' but very much came across as variations on a theme.
Couldn't be better said, the man thinks so too. My dream amp was always a JVM until I played a 5150... I'd get the 6l6 tho. Hearing this makes me want a Mesa cab 🤣
Ide say the dark terror and the rev had noticable differences, but nothing a pedal couldn't bridge. So yeah, a good sounding cab is WAY more important than a good sounding amp.
I also found different the Randall RGT, but surely the Dark terror was the most different, also because of his fuzzy distortion
Preamplification.
Amps are not only about sound but also how they feel and respond to the players style. But I agree with above - the sound is very similar between the amps.
EVH, JCM800 and the ENGL were the stand outs for me, they just cut through the mix the best. Those 800s have just stood the test of time. What an amp!

My takeaway is that Ola really knows how he likes to dial in an amp. The overall similarity in this mix is remarkable.
I think this just demonstrates how important it is to have an Ola at one end of the signal chain. 👍
That's the most important part of the Signal Chain obviously, an Ola is irreplaceable.
The EVH is the tightest and most brutal amp IMO. I love these amps ❤️

honestly, this video made me realize that with those Solar guitars and those pickups, no matter what rig you'd play through, you've got a signature sound and I absolutely love it! Me, I'd love to see a "1 RIFF / 10 GUITARS" video to see just how differently you can mix up the tones. Great video, Ola, I love your content!

The difference is so subtle between the amps. It’s more the grain of the distortion, maybe a bit of the overall eq, but not worlds apart by any means. At least in YT land.
Absolutely right ! The Amp is more about the distortion, the dynamics, the feel etc. The Cab and the mic placement are way more important ! They define the whole frequency range !

OOoooo that first EVH sounded amazing. When the chords had a little time to ring out, the tone really blossomed. That and the Badlander were my favourites for this riff.
All I have to say is this video and audio is so insanely well put together. For an amp comparison video it really doesn’t get better than this. Agree with others if you could do a cab comparison in this same manner that would be amazing. Great work ola

This was a great video. The Revv was my fav. Fortin SIgil and Randall Satan next (they sounded almost identical to me through my Kali LP6s). Pretty impressed with how that Laney Ironheart sounded.
Man, that JCM really brings out the bass! Sounds bad ass, I can't decide if it would be good for a whole album, but it did make it sound heavy in a very different way! My next favorite was probably the Satan. Really liked this vid!

1 Riff 10 Cabs/speakers would show how much the cab/speaker effects the tone imo.
It's really cool to hear the heads that were able to cut through! That to me really is what's key.

what we like is subjective.... all of these are great... but, if I had to pick 2 amps... the Mesa Boogie Badlander and Marshall JCM 800.

This also reaffirms that most tone is in the speakers/cab. This is still awesome, and there are slight variations. To me, the Revv and the Fortin had the most clarity and punch. It sat so well in the mix.
I have the 60w Laney Ironheart. It sounds really good with a boost in front of it. Comes with an attenuator in it so you can get cranked tones at low volume too, it's a nice head for sure.
Great video. I love shit like this!!! For me, top 3 are the JCM800, Fortin Sigil and then the Revv. The JCM surprised me. Has such a great top end.
This just reinforces my love for my Marshall JCM 800. absolute firebreathers with the right tweaks.

EVH Fortin and REVV are my favorite sounding amps in this video.
This video really helped me solidify that i want a EVH 5150 III. I own a fortin sigil 20w and your signature randall satan 120w. Just another flavor of sound, in other words, aggressive and brutal. Thank you

Pickups and cabinets are the real tone changers,all the new high gain amps are tonaly similar.
All sounded great respectively, as someone stated earlier it’s influenced by the cab/speakers. The one thing that stood out for me is that the Dark Terror maybe showed it’s biggest flaw in only having a shape control Vs a 3 band EQ.
The riff is KILLER man!!!

That Fortin Sigil is insanly clear for something so small, though its low end is more like the marshall.
I'm most impressed by the Rev 120, seems very balanced sitting in the middle of the lot.
There is so much more to learn from this video, than just how the different amps sound!
For one, it really shows how important the cabinet is when it comes to overall guitar sound. 10 different cabinets would make 10 far more different sounds, than those ten amps with settings that sound similar through the same cabinet like in the video. Same with the mic positioning.
Second, it really shows how "shitty" a guitar tone sounds, that works well in the mix when listened to it solo. The first half with the other instruments at every single amp i was like "woah, that awesome", as soon as the drums and synths fade out that changes to an "ugh, that sounds like shit, is this really the same tone?". A guitar that sounds good in mix sounds like shit when listened solo, and the other way around. Basic knowledge, but a very good example here.
I think Ola teached way more in this video, than he actually intended to.
Also i am really surprised on how damn good the Marshall sounds in the mix

To be fair it's not such a big difference between them... but I like Revv, Fortin and Randall Satan the most, disappointed with the Engl tho :c it'd be interesting to see 1 amp with different cabinets too ;)
The cab/speakers make most of the difference.

@@moonsuga Dude, if one tunes an Evertune equipped guitar slightly out of tune with the backing track, it stays that way. Just slightly sharp, that's all. No biggie, chill 😁

I felt that Marshall for some really hit the spot and stood out and felt a little different however that fortin amp along with the mesaboogie were also really good
That Marshall had me on marketplace right after this video looking to see if there was one near me 😂 I agree the Marshall sounded best.

@@WeinanHu-zj4jk even when the mix is turned down and you check them in A/B comparison, it`s hard to hear a difference. Never would have thought that the SATAN is so close to a Marshall.

Laney Ironheart sounds tight
For 3 channel head that you can get for 350€ second hand it's really good one. It may not have the absolute best clean, crunch or metal tone, but it's good enough in every one of those. At this point I see no reason investing 2-3000 more to have a little extra something.

Laney and revv sounded more up front in the mix and crisper like an apple by them selves.

Yeah Ironheart is probably one of the most versatile high gain amp out there and you don’t have to pay a ridiculous amount of money compared to a bunch of these amps
The key takeway for me: Be happy with the Laney IronHeart I have but get a few decent cab IRs for variety!

Revv, badlander, Fortin in that order. Next video would love to see 1 riff 10 boost pedals. I really think the orange dark terror would sound a ton better with a boost

An EQ pedal would also help the Dark Terror a lot, since it only has that weird Shape knob

@@Scrimshaw_DuBois42 to me all orange amps seem to benefit from a boost. They are too flubby for my personal taste but with a boost they tighten up and still sound massive at the same time.
I’d like to hear more of that Fortin amp, I thought it sounded very nice. But overall EVH is my favorite
Fortin, Revv and the Satan - the presence cuts above so well with these. Bass is controlled. Superb tone.
All amplifiers sounds preatty good, but hearing this riff like a modern metal riff, with a modern amplifier like the revv sounded almost perfect, the bass of that amp punches perfectly like every good metal chug riff must do. Great work!
I always though Revv amps were kinda a hype brand, but that amp seems the most consistent and well balanced to my ears in this demo. Glad to admit I was wrong!
revv is hype because they destroy everything else. the only good value high end tube amp imo

My favs were the revv, the Laney, and the jcm. To me they sounded the best

JCM 800, EVH, and Randall Satan were my favourites. Dark terror was cool, but it really needs an OD to get it into the sweet spot. Revv and the other Randall were not my cup of tea at all, they sounded “broken” like there was distortion and saturation happening in the wrong places. Bad lander was sick, and probably my 4th favourite!

A nice demonstration of the miniscule differences these amps offer. Sure, there's a bit more low end here, a bit less headroom there, but I'm not sure if I could tell without visual clues.
The Revv Gen stuck out to me with its nice sizzle and the Orange Dark Terror bc of its unability to deliver the huge low end it intended to. ^^
I love the sound of the Mesa Badlander! But really, 9 out 10 amps sounded very similar. The odd one out was the Orange Dark Terror. I'm guessing it's because Ola couldn't fine tune the EQ the way he probably wanted. Idk.
Muddier gain without a boost. With a boost I'm sure it will fall in line a lot more, but still might be a bit different.

i was glad i could hear particular differences, throughout the list; they are indeed well dialed for similar tone... most of the differences i could hear could be trumped by mixing decisions imho.
Ola actually used the Badlander for rhythm on Stars and Ponies! Not sure about the rest of the album though.
It lacked both character and definition tbh, the others left it well behind......

My favorite were the RG100, JCM800, Mesa and ENGL. I like the deep ballsy sound. The Fortin , Orange, and Revv were too bright and thin for me.
The EVH and Satan were in the middle.
In order for me : Fortin, Revv , Randall Satan. They sounded substantially more ‘modern’ , to me. Great video!
Great video, Ola! I’d love to see a 1 Riff/10 Overdrives video, because there’s so many overdrives on the market that it’s a little overwhelming for newer players. Do a good mix of cheaper to more expensive ones. For example, I’m happy with my Fortin Grind, but the Grind might not be what someone else wants for their sound.
To my ear Revv just done the things right. But I was surprised by Fortin Sigil, solid and powerful. Even went googling :D sadly it's too heavy for the size and underequipped for the price.

Those v30’s really shape the sound. I think a cab with mixed speakers is the way to go, like how Friedman uses greenbacks and v30s.

It's a subtle thing, but i really enjoy that gain-stage and top end.
