I'm proud of Ray Charles in this scene where he refuses to play for a segregation audience.
Me too! I LOVE it when one's conscience speaks louder than money! Real integrity CAN'T be sold or bought! It WILL NEVER cease to disgust me that humans treat each other the way they do and for such stupid reasons!
Amen HALLELUJAH
I can't believe that this movie was made in 2004, I thought that it was made in 2018 or something, the quality is wonderful along with the editing! What a wonderful movie and an amazing director! Ray Charles was such a wonderful character!
2004 wasn’t that long ago you clown lol
@@SamA-oe7ft I know that, but it doesn’t look like a movie from 2004, it looks like a movie from 2015/20.

@@SimonKnight1023 no? Im in my early 20s you silly sob
@@SamA-oe7ft So? lol That’s when many people start feeling old.
the cost of him turning down Georgia was big. Banned from the whole state. not just professionally but personally. can't eat, can't sleep, can't do nothing in Georgia. and here's the kicker, HE"S FROM GEORGIA
From Wikipedia:
“In the scene in which Charles is about to enter a segregated music hall in Augusta, Georgia, in 1961, a group of civil rights activists protesting just outside the hall successfully persuade him not to perform; Charles then declares that he will no longer perform in segregated public facilities and in response, the Georgia state legislature passes a resolution banning Charles from ever performing again in the state. In reality, a group of civil rights activists did successfully persuade Charles to reject this invitation, but the advice came in the form of a telegram rather than a street protest;[14] Charles also did make up for the gig later, and was never banned from performing in Georgia and still accepted invitations to perform at segregated public facilities.[14]”
Really…..okayyyyyyyy
He's from Florida
@@silverdrumvideo Movies are not the way to truly learn history but the often perform that function for many lacking time, energy, or the background to desire to do so and it would be nice if the did a little fact checking about things involving whole states. Sad...
He did an awesome job of portraying Ray
Yes he did. One of Jamie's best, performances I'd say.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hence the Oscar
Jamie Foxx does a great job playing Ray Charles in Ray and Joe Gardner in Soul.

This is a life changing scene!!! Ray believes black people has rights and freedoms and not letting nay sayers from being treated like they’re bad people and they stand up for their rights!!!❤❤❤😊😊
There was a earlier scene with Larenz Tate playing Quincy Jones telling him to fight against Jim Crow but he refused follow along with this idea.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RAY CHARLES
oOoOoOo The cats OooOoO
This scene is actually historically inaccurate. Charles wasn't banned from the state of Georgia when he canceled this concert, though he did have to pay $800 to compensate the promoter.
They don't make artists like this anymore
Change came about when Ray came to the state. But how many were rejected before him?
Why can't the world be that simple in it's rightness he said ray there's up here dancing "well that's what there here for"
Si ya vi soul en el dvd que me compro javiercito
Don’t believe everything that you see in the movies. This incident never actually happened the way it’s portrayed in this scene.
Nah, I like the movie version better. Old saying..."Never let the truth get in the way of a good story"! -Mark Twain
thanks for this
I will not dispute your information, but we all can agree that it did happened in some kind of fashion.
Partly incorrect. Ray was not banned from playing in Georgia but refused to play in Georgia for many years due to segregation. He never made up the concert ,that is false. He paid 757 dollars in compensation from a court ruling for not playing due to segregation. In 1979 Georgia issues a state apology to Ray in person for the ruling and he became the first person to be born in Georgia inducted into the Georgia state music hall of fame. His song Georgia on my mind also became the states song that same date.
What an enjoyable occasion and superb musical talent, performances : néver to be repeated
an all time thrill

The promoter did it to himself. Should've just kept quiet.

Hey… I’m not black, I’m white.
What song is he singing at the end

please end cannabis-prohibition/slavery
cannabis-prohibition = 13th Amendment of USA Constitution = "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction." = SLAVERY
racist be like:
"i'm not going to lose money!"
1 Timothy 6:10
I am white and wasn't born at that time, but I am very embarrassed for the crimes the white people committed all over the world, thinking they're superiour and better than anybody else. That's so shameful and ridiculous!
I love Ray Charles even more for his refusal to perform infront of an segregated audience! What a great guy he was! ❤🙏
Did more than any BLM activist did in one hour. xD
