At least yakuza 0 and kiwami raised the series to almost mainstream popularity
I remember playing a demo for yakuza 4 or something on ps3 and something didnt click for me then gave 0 a chance at a whim since I always saw people talking about it then went out and got kiwami and then 4 (I already had 5 on my ps3 because ps plus but never installed it because my hardware was too small at the time) and eventually got 6 as well. Ive heard others with similar stories.

This has to be the most consistent, great, and just plain silly-on-purpose video game series ever made.

Don't go to IGN for Yakuza reviews, for real. Famitsu and other magazines do a far better job.
Additional content too little, character model the same, these are valid complaints. An 8 is a great score. Go fanboy somewhere else.

I started playing Yakuza 0 recently and it has absolutely blown me away. Will definitely be getting this after Yakuza Kiwami
i Brought Yakuza 0 and Kiwami in the PSN sale yakuza 0 was £9.99 and kiwami was £8.99 so i got em cus i enjoyed yakuza 4 on ps3

gekko524 the only reason those remasters are happening, is because since Yakuza 0, sales of the series have spiked internationally, thus making demand for these remasters, of course they’re getting released outside of Japan.

MrMcBoomBoom ports of 3, 4, and 5 aren’t confirmed, but the devs admitted a big reason they’re getting ported in Japan is because of how popular the series is becoming overseas, so it’d be very incongruous for them not to get ported outside Japan too

Yakuza kiwami is like a 7.0
And 6 is about 8

I'll give zero 9.5, kiwami is a 7 and yakuza 6 was a 8/9 I actually enjoyed 6 I loved the setting and damn I liked the story too. I need to play this and find out but I herd alot of positive reviews soo far.
One of the greatest video game series I have ever played and this is coming from one that has 25 years of gaming background.
This is the best entry in the series--story wise and gameplay. This is my favorite even in the PS2 days and seeing it remade is a a treat. It's a shame that critics keep comparing every single entry to Yakuza 0 because it's the only one they played and didn't experience the series when it first released. It's the very reason that it took this long for the series to gain traction in the West because back then, the comparison is against GTA which is just so wrong.
They keep yearning for the multiple battle styles. From Yakuza 1-5 there is no such thing. The game is known for its extremely beatuiful narratives and voice acting grounded on mature themes. Its gameplay is a mix of the whimsy and outrageous Japanese culture paired with a solid action RPG element.
I hope people won't get discouraged to play this game. For $10 less, you'll find Yakuza Kiwami 2 worth more than the usual $60 mainstream games out there.

You can get a better perspective if you have played the original Yakuza 2 and then understand what was actually added to this release rather than compare it to the entries that were totally designed for this gen, for example there was no controlling majima sections at all in Either Yakuza 1 or 2 on the PS2, as old head of the series it seems kinda flawed not to compare them the original releases but i get there are TONS of new players now, also welcome to this incredible series!

I got Yakuza kiwami on plus a couple days ago and can I just say, it's one of the most charming, over the top and bizare games I ever played and can not wait to play the other entries.
Not sure why complain that he looks the same as he did 10 years ago, sure he wears the same suit as always, but you can say he just aged well, its not uncommon especially for someone fit like kiryu..

It is a bit strange, even the end of 0 and beginning of Kiwami had slightly different character models. I think they should've just given Kiryu a beard or something in 6 to make him look older.

0, kiwami 1 & 2 are something special in the series. Newcomers and long time fans all have something to fun and addictive to get into by retelling or explaining older tropes and events in the storyline with the best combat in the series.
this is far exceeded expectation for a remake of an old game, simply amazing.
Can you do the side stuff after beating the main games of yakuza or do I have to do it at certain chapters in the story
First off, don't come to IGN for reviews when it comes to Yakuza. They don't play the game nearly as long as we fans do. They don't explore the world or care about side characters.
These games are 9s and 10s across the board, yet they give trash like Destiny, Call Of Duty, and Fortnite high scores. DO NOT TRUST IGN.
Kiwami was a 5/10. Yakuza 6 was a 7/10. Stop being a fanboy, these games are not perfect.

I think the baseball team minigame from Y6 was a bit underrated. I would have loved to play that again on this.

Hands down which is the best Yakuza game and which one should I get first? I am a huge open world fan.

All of the Yakuza games are incredible in their own right but there was just something special about this game. It’s like it iron out the kinks in Kiwami and improves on the game! My favorite in the series by a long shot
I did play the original yakuza 2...but it was a 2 discs game and the 2nd disc never worked so I only played the 1st disc... now I can play the kiwami 2 and finally beat the game and fully satisfied seeing how Kiryu and the cop lady

No 0 is a prequel that takes place before 1
Eventually you’ll be able to play all on PS4, as for now you have 0,1 and 2 on PS4
Buy 0,1, & 2. By time you 100% those they'll probably be in the process of Kiwami 3 or something. If not, the rest are on ps3 which are cheap as heck nowadays
Start with Yakuza 0, then Kiwami, Kiwami 2, by the time youre done with those Yakuza 3 will be out, it is confirmed for ps4, 4 and 5 will eventually make it and then finish with 6.
Just play the games in release orders. If you have a PC, you can emulate both Yakuza 1 and 2, then play the remaster of 3-5 as well as Yakuza 0 and 6 on PS4.
The reasons why you should play the game in release order is
-The Kiwami games(especially 2) are horrible remakes
-Yakuza 0 clearly wasn't meant to be played first, as it spoils future games and expects you to know a lot of information from other games

hiitoast242 dude same. I beat Kiwami(loved it), bought Yakuza 0(loved it,beat it, and reared at one point)and I just beat Kiwami 2 last night. The entire month of November was all about Yakuza.

Didn't bother to scroll down, but you forgot the best improvement, the damn running! That was my main complaint in 6. This game does not have that issue.
As far as costume design, I like to think of it as a reflection on the new engine and just a reminder that this is an, "ultimate", edition. It really is.
Overall, my opinion is my opinion, but this is a solid/comfy game and I'm glad they're remastering these overlooked gems. Thank you Sega and I look forward to Yakuza 5,(kiwami), that did not make it overseas.
I really hope this comes to PC as well. I'm loving Yakuza 0 right now on the system. 😊

I’m glad they remastered these early ones on PS4. I didn’t want to hunt down older PS2 games. My only question is are these remakes, 0 and 6 uncensored in their U.S. releases.
Tho it's not really censoring, the Yakuza game remove some Japanese licensed tracks in their western releases.
Thankfully, as of Kiwami 2, they started localizing the licensed tracks as well

Yakuza 0,Kiwami 1 and 2, 3-5 and Yakuza like a dragon have hit the xbox game pass and brought the yakuza into main stream gaming. The best part yakuza 0,1,2 are $20 each while 3-5 cost $40. You can also get them via gamepass

If you are interested in the full story start with zero. The best ones on ps4 are zero and kiwami 2.

You can play directly. This has a recap explaining 1.
You don't have to, at the very beginning of the game it'll let Kiryu "Remember" the stuff that happened the year before and gives a comprehensive. But I would highly recommend playing the first one, gives you a better insight, plus all the Nishiki stuff comes to a head in it. You can play it off the abridged version, but your missing a lot of the character nuance.

Im realy confused what type of missions will i be doing in story mode.. this just looks like alot of minigames
You beat up people.
There are main story missions and boss fights and the like, the minigames and substories are all side content
Story missions are straight forward: Cutscenes push the narrative, eventually a fight starts, you win (or have to retry), eventually you fight a boss, story continues. The rest is all just icing on the cake.
I am a newbie to the Yakuza world. So I never played a yakuza game before. But I am confused. I know that there Yakuza 0, 6 and Kiwami 2 out there. But I am confused by the order they were released. How can I play Kiwami 2 without ever playing Yakuza 1? Or playing 6 without playing the previous games..

The story and characters are definitely what make the games special, some of the best crime narratives in gaming, and the glory that is Goro Majima.
The games generally come with run downs of previous games, so while you can't play 3-5, you should be able get enough of a gist to enjoy 6. With Kiwami and Kiwami giving you a decent amount of insight into the Kiryu/Haruka relationship. They each stand on their own while also building to a larger world.
Wait until Feb 2020 and u can buy Yakuza 3,4,5 remastered into Ps4
