bruises is actually a reference to the good times and memories one made with their partner. so when he says i hope i never lose the bruises you left behind..... he means he hopes he never loses the memories he made with his girlfriend
to me these bruises are the evidence of how good it was before it came crashing down. the longer they last, the greater it was. some cuts have no depth. pain can be bittersweet evidence of the loss of joy, contentment and safety that came before. not a a dream or foolish fantasy. at some point it was real. it meant something.
