Buy, wait for a sale, rent, or never touch it. The Patented Karak review system to see if a game is worth a buy upon release or if I recommend waiting. - Hry
I remember my dad, my little brother and I sitting in a dark living room playing the original with surround sound and crapping ourselves hearing the skittering. My brother and I consider our first playthrough one of our fondest memories.
yeah I and my brother did the same we played the trilogy when my parents were on weekend we played it on a big tv with surround sound late at night with lights turned off it is something really amazing
I was really sad when they disbanded the visceral games I was waiting for the sequel all these years Calisto protocol was fine but it wasn't really what I wanted hope this game sells so we get sequels
The thump of the Pulse Rifle on a surround sound system. đ±
I have similar memories playing with my sonâs .
This game is one of the all time great horror games. I love this one, Alien: Isolation, and the earlier Doom where you could only have the gun or light, but not both, in your hands at any one time. Each for different reasons, but all three had points I had to stop playing because it unnerved/frightened me so much at times, just truly great horror experiences.

One of the most terrifying things I remember about the necromorphs was how they can randomly change up their speed at which they approach you. Usually they slowly shamble towards you so you have a false sense of security thinking you have plenty of time to take them out, but then they suddenly break into a full on sprint and rush you
Or how they fake death and when you go to loot them they jump up again.
When they sprint they also swing their arms rapidly and their legs are moving fast so itâs hard to shoot them to slow them down. Theyâll just eat body shots till they get to you.
The way yhe video describes it as if the necros are "like spiders that dont know how to walk, and cant tell the difference between fast and slow", and that's PERFECT
And then you meet the stasis variants and your entire understanding of the game gets thrown out the window and you're forced to relearn the entire game...
Good times.
And screaming while running at u, scary af lol.

true that. when i first saw the trailers i was like "wait isnt this exactly how the original looked?" but then i realised i was wearing nostalgia goggles and this is vastly superior in every way imaginable. but the original game was so good for when it came out.
So true! Dead Space might be my favorite game/series. I've recently been playing it on my steam deck and it holds up so well. After just finishing Callisto, Dead Space is just better in every way still.
Doesnât say much for the new one.
@@jron5113 new game plus has new stoy content đ
@LTNetjak They wokified the remake and a bunch of people will buy it, consume it, and enjoy the woke changes. That's the point. You'll notice how no one will complain about it because they've been trained not to.
I'm looking at this the same way I looked at the RE1 remake and how much it changed and kept the same. Letting you explore the Ishimura fully, the weapon changes, Isaac fully voiced, new cutscenes, the gravity control from the sequel, but keeping the aesthetic and story intact with a (mostly) brand new cast. AND new enemies and a new secret ending? Legit worth grabbing.
New enemies?
Your particular review style has got me even more hyped to experience this game for the first time! Appreciate you brother!
Glad to hear it!
This game is amazing.. wish I could relive it from scratch. You'll have a blast.

Wish they kept classic aiming tho instead of going with centered.
Hey Karak, I just want to say I really appreciate how concise your videos are. I have a friend trying to grow a small channel and he often bounces his thoughts off of me. In the process of trying to find what works and doesn't I've ended up looking at the content I enjoy most through a more critical lens. I keep coming back to your channel for an assortment of examples they can pull from for a variety of reasons. Though the thing I feel really rings true with your channel is it feels like you've taken the time to work on a script and distilled it down to the most succinct version of itself. That and your more humble personality really resonates. Anyway, thanks for content man, always love seeing a new video drop.
I somehow missed these games when they were originally released. Very excited to experience this for the first time
Dead Space introduced me to the horror genre of videogames, and now here I am like 10 years later debating on getting the remake.

@@GlazeonthewickeR Ok!
Dead Space 2008 was the first game I ever preordered. Despite next to no hype surrounding it (that I knew of at the time, at least), it just looked unique, and I had never really PLAYED horror games before. I absolutely loved it.
Motive earned my faith and trust with Squadrons, and it made this remake one of the three games I've preordered in the last five years. I am deeply excited, and very glad to see reviews have been so positive. This is what passion and talent can do.
my favorite thing about ACG is his reviews are always so quick and to the point, DeadSpace is on my wishlist now
So excited to play this tonight, Dead Space has been gone for far too long, and it deserves a resurgance so a whole new audience can experience one of the best survival horror games ever.
I distinctly remember playing Dead Space when it first came out. I remember rolling my eyes when EA said they were publishing a Survival Horror game - I half expected it to be terrible, so I decided to rent it from a local Blockbuster.
I played it alone in the dark. It was honestly a terrifying experience⊠and I had lots of experience with survival horror games at that time.
Iâm glad it got a remake for new audiences. And Iâm really happy itâs getting similarly positive reviews.
Heavy sigh of relief, followed by trip to the game store. Thank you for such a well written review. Reading all the great memories of this game in the comments was a real treat as well.
Thank you for the review! Love everything I heard especially about there being no performance issues. Canât wait to play one of my favorite horror games with a whole slew of new goodies, great visuals, and features.
Glad this oneâs looking good. Been wanting a good horror game to play through! Itâs been a while since Iâve played the first game so this will be awesome.
I had already pre-ordered it for $41 a month ago, so I'm just here to hear the review. The OG game is still as good as it ever was (even better on PC), but even six or seven years ago it was starting to show its age with many of the textures. While I am getting a bit tired of the remaster/remake trend, this game kind of needed the visual upgrade.
Glad it seems to be stable and bug free from day one...unlike a certain other "Dead Space" game that recently released.
9:08 to be fair. Isaac's slouch is iconic
I played the original for the first time a couple years ago and was shocked at how well it still holds up. The graphics put even some of today's games to shame. The atmosphere is second to none. This is the one I am looking forward to playing in October the most.
I remember playing this around christmas alone, and it's nostalgic because Fallout 3 also came out around this time and both these games really blew my mind.
The ishimura was always such a cool setting. I adored âevent horizonâ when I was younger, it was the first piece of sci-fi horror that really clicked with me (alien/s was more fun and adventure-like) I always felt like Dead Space captured that feeling well, the claustrophobic horror of being in space. Iâm glad this remake seems like a winner. I canât wait to get it for $10 in 2 years lol:)
Where we're going we won't need Eyes to see
Have you guys watched most of the deleted footage of Event Horizon's vision of what "Hell" supposedly looks like? That was so amazingly f$cked up. I wish the movie had more of that in it. But yes, Event Horizon is also one of my cult favorites.
@@OmkaraHellcore I hope one day for the deleted footage gets restored. Theres a lost 130 minute runtime of the movie. I hope they recover it one day.

@@jokairou489 how is it pretending? Taking into account for inflation from the originalâs release the game should cost 80$
The greatest 'low-key' appeal of the original was the ship itself - the Ishimura. A ship that actually felt like a ship, coherent, logical, functional. With the remake it now feels gargantuan in size, you're dwarfed by the immense engineering which fires out spectacularly as you restore function. Fabulous remake, keeping the claustrophobic desperation, quality voice acting and internal logic. Now we have some of the best use of lighting I've ever seen in a game. 9/10
I bought this game on sale and absolutely love it. I thought I wouldnât enjoy a horror game but I was wrong. The vibe is great trying to piece together the events that made this place take a turn is my favorite part. The environment too, the rundown version of a once high tech space ship never gets old.
I loved this game and thought it was pretty scary back in 08â. Just cannot justify a $70 price tag. 50$ or less Iâm on board.
Itâs well worth it in my opinion after playing it
Literally every new game releasing is 70$. All big time games will be 70$ on release. Just like they were 60$ on release for like 10+ years. Itâs really not that crazy of news. Just wait a few months and itâll drop.
@@dhdixjrnedndjd9672 no every new game is not that price. try again. Resident evil 4 remake, one piece odyssey, Ishin, and star ocean the divine force just to name a few.

I recently finished the calisto protocol.. loved it tbh ... then I played the original dead space on my ps3 just because I love si fi and horror . I can't wait to get hold of this ..
THIS game is so important between myself and my daughter... She insisted on stating up late ( she was 4 )... I thought it would make no "NOPE!!" outta there and go to bed... Nope, she was enthralled, called out enemies, and gripping onto my arm at certain points... It was one the funnest 2 day ever... Now, scary movies and games are just our thing... We love them... You'd never know either, because she's the kindest teen ever... We joke and call them "Parental Failure Nights"... I think I'm nearly at 850 now... đ
I'd LOVE to get this remake to play with her!!!
Thanks for sharing that, thatâs awesome mate!
Thanks, Karak! I was so into the original Dead Space that I really don't need a remake right now, but for anyone who's intrigued who *didn't* play the original, this looks like an easy game to recommend. If they continue forward, remaking the other two games, I'll have warnings (I felt the games got worse, successively, and I was done by the time I finished DS3), but this one, for new players, looks fine. Cheers!
That spawn system was a worrying addition. I played dead space last year but I definitely want to see what changed. Thanks for the review ACG
It's similar to Left 4 Dead random spawn system but more improvement. I still play Left 4 Dead to this day and it gets jumpscare from time to time. Really held up the horror action, unfortunately can't say the same every horror games out there with scripted spawn when it comes to replayability
@@redhakiim789 I didn't know this was a thing till people started talking about the finer details of this game. Alien isolation is one of my favorite horror games and I had no clue that it was one of the more successful uses of such a system.
@@Fenrir190 Yep, horror games should take note about this unpredictable random spawn/jumpscare system right now. It makes you wanna replay the game again but with different aspect compare to what you just witness in your previous playthrough

I'm so, SO happy this is better than The Callisto Protocol from which I had tons of expectations.
Iâm glad the remake is worth buying on a side note I really liked Callisto Protocol and thinks itâs worth a buy too especially with new game plus just added.
I agree; I think Glen Schofieldâs initial creation (Dead Space) outshined The Calisto Protocol too much and was misunderstood by fellow epic gamers. Calisto Protocol is definitely worth a play through!
nah it's still trash
@@funtourhawk much like your opinion
Here's my opinion on Callisto Protocol: Story is too short, battle is cumbersome because of the dodgy dodge mechanic, most combat is close quarters, lackluster exploration options and terrible performance on PC with high end hardware. Callisto is not worth the full price tag they're asking.
@@Mental-Cobwebsit has potential and still does but it missed the mark of what people wanted if they added more unique enemy types, dial back the melee combat and have back tracking elements similar to Resident evil I think it wouldâve be a way better experience

Happy to see one of my favorite franchises get the remake it deserved
So far, it looks like a retexture or something which really says a lot to how good the graphics and art direction was in the original. There are differences, but I mean come on, they made an already pretty looking game into another looker. It won't be as drastic of a change as RE2 Remake or something.
New ending and Issac talks
Gotta say, I like that you put the basic thoughts on your reviews in the title of them. That's really appreciated. But I just can't resist listening to your thoughts and amusing anecdotes on the games you're taking a look at. đ
I made a mistake playing DS2 before 1 back then. Silent Isaac make DS1 feels really weird. Now it's time to play again.
Having played this game 10 years ago, I struggle to justify paying premium dollars for a game that had it's foundation, story, and mocap in place years ago. Yes, adding new lighting and textures looks awesome, but this is EA trying to sell a game at full price with 1/3 the work of the original developers. I'm waiting for it to hit 19-29 dollars in a few months when EA realizes other games are taking its appeal away.
I've learned with both Ubisoft and EA titles, to never buy on release. Within a month it will be on sale at 25-40% off

Love your style of writing and delivery. Instant sub!
Just came across a game breaking bug. In chapter 4, right before fighting that boss in that wide open area, The save station and every sort of station says "please stand by". I can't save, and there is no autosave. I played for an hour until I died, then it put me back to an hour ago. I uninstalled the game and reinstalled it and still the same thing. I thought it was part of the game for a bit, then I looked at a walkthrough and that doesn't happen.
In short, just play the original. If you really loved the original but also felt it needed a remake then you never really loved the game. It was more than likely just nostalgia.
Why if you have the money and the system to play this?
I love dead space, but $70 for a remake is absolutely ridiculous. I'm going to wait until it's $20-$30.
It's an EA game, it will be on sale for around $45 in a month. Look at the new Need for Speed, it got down to $41 after only three weeks on PSN
I honestly felt like the money I spent was more of a donation than anything, indicating how much I want the franchise as a whole to be revitalized.
Another great, well-written review! Your wordplay did not go unnoticed. :)
I injured myself playing the original. I sat down in a gaming chair and played the first 3-4 hours straight through, and must've tensed up so much, that when I stopped, I couldn't move. My back was very badly hurt. Took five days to be able to move normally again, and I recall having to call off from work a couple of days. That's how scary that game was at the time.
I literally loled with your comment, this happened to me too. Could only play 1-2 hours before needing to take a break to recover mentality from this game.

The reason Issac is "stiff" is due to the RIG (Resource Integration Gear) on his back, imagine having a Steal pole strapped to your spine, you wouldnt be so limber either.
the CEC Engineering RIG was designed for Protection against hazardous environments and physical trauma , NOT mobility like the RIG's in DEAD SPACE 2 (ADVANCED SUIT), so it would make sense why issac would be "stiff and stout" instead of frolicking around like a ninja on steroids as the CEC ENGINEERING RIG was not made for combat, but rigorous work and dangerous environments.
The first edition of this game was miles ahead of other games in terms of graphics and gameplay !

Per your comments about music stinger being off a little - if I remember correctly in the original Dead Space, the player would not hear a combat stinger until a Necromorphs detects you, not the other way around. Makes it a little more scary since it can happen with your back turned. Hopefully they kept this as I thought it added a little to the âWTFâ factor.
Interesting. I found it didnt work in places. But your explanation makes some sense. It doesn't work great though
9:40 "Vegas nerve" for where enemies hide loot. I hadn't heard that one before, I like it.
I think itâs vagus nerve
@@k2769 I think that's part of the joke?
Really only watch you and gameranx for games im on the fence of buying , good work as usual , definitely reliving this experience
One thing im most happy about this remake, is that i'll get to replay it in english. Back when it came out, living in Switzerland i bought it on ps3 and it was in frenchsadly. Now its going to be even better. Was one of the first cosplays i did as well and won my first contest with it, so its has a lot of personal meaning to me as well.
Great review ACG! I am loving this game! I've been trying to analyze why I love this game so much more than its spiritual cousin Callisto Protocol. I can't quite put my finger on it. Both are visual juggernauts and I did actually like the Punch-Out aspects of CP. Perhaps it's just the atmosphere? What a year in that we get the horror classics Dead Space Remake and Resident Evil 4 Remake within mere weeks of each other. Now, if Silent Hill 2 Remake comes out in 2023 I'll die a happy horror gamer.
