  • This week, as the sun was out and we had a good forecast, we thought we would bring you on board and show you what kind of dinghy we are sailing now. Unfortunately for reasons that will become obvious when you watch the film the race itself didn't go to plan. So while you watch Ian sailing we will also tell you the story of why we bought one, and why it was even designed in the first place!
    We make these films just for fun, and we hope that you have enjoyed watching them however we have been asked on a couple of occasions now if we have a Patreon account. We don’t want to do that at this stage as we feel it would turn the channel into a business, and as we said at the beginning, this is all just for fun. However if you would like to support us and feel you could help contribute to the cost of making these films then you can do that via our PayPal account here. A big thank you to everyone that has already done this, its a great help.

    Very enjoyable watch. Whilst you guys are looking at a potential 40°C next week we have rain and 3°C overnight here in Aotearoa, so coming out on the Medway with you was an armchair-by-the-logfire treat, thank you. I restored a Pacer that I had found in the weeds outback of the Seasalter Sailing Club, huge fun for this novice sailor. South Seas Sean.

    Lovely! Nothing as satisfying as a dinghy! Instant feedback! Very satisfying racecraft! Thank you for the detailed explanations of your tactics. Ace!

      @@SailingwiththeFoxwellFamily Giving away the win for a shortcut though…. 😬 racer in me struggles with that. What an epic lead though. Just shows, read the line well and all the puffs. Brilliant.

      It is where Hannah and I differ. She isnt happy if she doesnt win, i just like to have a good sail. Some times the two go hand in hand but not always

    Great video Ian, I'll take a dozen more please. Glad to hear you are sailing the wrinkles out of those sails.

      Hi Ray. Thanks, nothing wrong with the sails on the Streaker... we treated it to a nice new North when we got it and its proved to be an excellent sail

      @@SailingwiththeFoxwellFamily Sorry, I kind of made that expression up. Like driving the tires off of your car. I'm glad to hear that you are getting lots of good time on the water. Your experience with the tides is an interesting part of your racing to me. I'm a lake sailor, so light to moderate winds are my norm. Can't imagine pointing towards the mark and having the shoreline tell you that you are backing up the river!

      Tides do make tactics far more challenging

    i had no idea Jack Holt designed so many boats that are staples world wide. Imagine how many boats have been built to his designs, would there be any other designer more prolific?
    Nice clip mate, picked everything really well

      Hi guys. There are a few in the big boat arena that have a lot of successful designs but there cant be many others with such a large number of successful designs in the dinghy world. Certainly if you measure it as the number of boats built by a designer then you would be hard pressed to come up with any one as successful as jack Holt

    Hi Ian. So what is your personal dinghy fleet now then? I seem to recall you had a Nat 12 and a Wayfarer. Are you just down to the Streaker now?

    bit of an odd question but what is faster a streaker or a laser. i am asuming a blaze is faster than all of them right?

    • @SailingwiththeFoxwellFamily
      @SailingwiththeFoxwellFamily  Před 10 měsíci +1

      A Streaker is a little bit faster than a Radial but slower than a full rig Laser. And yes both are much slower than a Blaze
