    Great video. 👍I’m a hot hatch fan , always have been from when I had a Mk2 Golf Gti early 90’s , currently got a Mk7 Gti, . They are so versatile, get the kids and dog in , get a DIY project in with seats laid flat , then when you on your own on a country road you can have fun . My Dad has a stock M140i in that bronze colour and it will be mine one day, and I’ll be keeping it stock as I think these will be desirable collectible being a unique hot hatch. “And so quick”

    I prefer hot wagons, because of the practicality they offer. The best hot hatch i'd say is the Megane RS Trophy with cup chassis or the Civic Type R or the Golf TCR. These 350 bhp plus cars are not hot hatches they are budget muscle cars

    Whether you would class it as a hot hatch, there is another 3 litre, 6 cylinder hatch in the form of a clio V6, which like the M140i is rear wheel drive. Not quite the same power output but still offers tail happy fun

    • @roadreg1820
      @roadreg1820 Před 3 lety

      I think he is talking within the last 5 years or so. The Clio was a cool car. V6 in the back.. and RWD. Probably the closet thing to an M140i in terms of spec, yes, but miles apart in terms of performance, like you say. The Gen 1 was a lil snappy! Just like the 140 without a diff I guess 🙈

  • @DjNikGnashers
    @DjNikGnashers Před 3 lety +10

    I think the M140i is the best hot hatch, because it does everything to a high level, a jack-of-all-trades.
    It's comfy in comfort mode because the suspension is sensible, (oh wait, you have lowered yours and ruined it).
    It's quiet and sensible, not attracting attention, (oh wait, you have ruined yours with a loud exhaust and stickers, so it sounds & looks ridiculous).
    The seats are great, (oh wait, you have ruined yours fitting buckets).
    If you want a track-day car, then fine, make one and use it on track. The whole point of the M140i is that is can be a sensible & practical family car, yet can also be a fun & fast weapon too.
    I think you have completely missed the point by turning yours into a track day car but only driving it on the road.
    Just my opinion, (and at least you removed those fucking gash stripes, so credit to you for that, even though you have become a sheep by blacking everything - badges, wheels, etc making it look chavtastic).

      I have a stage 1 Cupra and I sort of agree. IMO I'd likely drop you in some back roads, front strut makes it SO responsive and it'll beat a stock 140 in a straight line. But a stage 1 140 would just blow it out the water in a straight line, been up against a mate with a stage 1 m240 and I just couldn't keep up. If it didn't sound so much like a 4 cylinder it'd be the perfect car.

    • @smc2069
      @smc2069 Před 3 lety +2

      @@AJR-gg I agree with all the points you made.
      The m140 just doesn't inspire confidence through the corners and I would struggle to stay with not just the cupra but any of its rivals down a B road. I was struggling to keep up with my mates stock golf r and ive got 130bhp more than him!
      With an lsd and suspension upgrades i think it'd be a different story however.
      As long as you're happy to mod cars then the m140 is the way to go

    @nomessininc. Před 3 lety +4

    Undeniably quick, and a car we probably we wont see this kind of layout again, but 90% of people who have had one and upgraded have said they’re a bit souless (that i have spoken to), but for ‘Ultimate Hot Hatch’ i reckon a Megane RS could give this a run for its money.

    • @OCOWGTR27
      @OCOWGTR27 Před 3 lety +2

      Soulless? The 140 is the opposite of that. Its completely unlike all the other hot hatches. It doesnt handle the best (megane / type r there) but has a mega engine and RWD. It will never be "the fastest" around a track, or had the AWD advantage a RS3 has, but it has put a smile like no other car on my face. It does need modding from stock to truely make people appreciate it (noise especially), but it would require a very, very special car to make me sell mine. I absolutely love it. I've driven all the other hot hatches, and they are all very good. But IMO they are all mostly from the same cookie cutter (AWD hatches, or FWD hatches) and drive pretty similar to each other. People say the steering doesnt have the best feel, but M3 UCA/LCA and a strut brace make a massive difference, and you end up with a car that steers beautifully without power interfering with the steering like every single other hatch. Being able to adjust the rotation of the car with your right foot. Being able to have fun like no other hatch (drifting it out of tight corners). Its a proper hooligan car once its had a few tasty mods. It's in it's own class. "Muscle Hatch"

Although fast I found the M135i to be a bit boring and steering lacked driver feed back. That's just my opinion which is subjective. Yes there are quicker cars on the road and smoother but for me a hot hatch is about fun factor and driver feedback. I just didn't trust the M135 in the twistys and it felt light on the front end aswell as the steering. I know your going to say the 140 has a B58 engine and the 135 has a N55 but it's still the same chassi. P. S. I really like your videos mate and keep them coming 👍.

      What you said about the M140i is too flawed is just your 'opinion', and I think it's wrong, so I am disagreeing.
      This is how I discuss things.
      A hatch, is (or should be), a sensible family car, comfortable for families, kids, shopping, and suitable for daily duties.
      A hot hatch, should be all of the above, but with a bit of fun thrown in, and a quicker turn of pace.
      It is not supposed to be an ultimate track day car from the factory. It needs to be comfortable for long trips, which is why it doesn't come with deep bucket seats as stock, it needs to handle the bumpy, pot-hole riddled roads in every town & city, not be a rock hard, lowered, spine breaker.
      You don't seem to be able to understand this simple concept.
      If somebody want's a mega-handling, superfast car, buy a Caterham, or a 911 etc.
      I remember the original hot hatchbacks, the Talbot sunbeam lotus and similar, but millenials haven't got a clue and think a hot hatch has to be a sub 4 second AWD, rock hard riding, weapon, lol, it's actually quite amusing.

      You seem obsessed with comfort but that has never been what a hot hatch has been about. It has always been about a fun and practical car with a decent turn of pace that can be used daily as any or the current breed of hot hatches can.
      We will have to agree to disagree. There is loads of choice in this category of car and you would be hard pressed to find a truly bad car but it depends on what your priorities are in regards to speed/practicality/looks etc are.

The M140i can easily be tuned to 500bhp and way more tourqe than the A45s. Oh, and let’s not mention how the car sounds being a 6 cylinder. Smoother, more tourqe and a sound the A45 will never be able to match. I’ll take a slower 0.60 time for more fun car overall. Oh, and 20,000 less. No brainer.

      BemaRoxtv lol how else you gonna compare to other pp on the road apart from traffic light Grand Prix? Enjoy the a45s beating you each time every time. A45s better tech better brakes better handling. Yea if your short on money go for the m140i which isn’t even in the same league as the a45s. M2 I can admit is more of a pure drivers car than the a45s and it is priced similarly to the a45s anyway

      BemaRoxtv that i6 in the bmw doesn’t even sound that good imo, with a resonator delete the a45s will sound just as good with pops and bangs. Nothing compares to the v8 in the 63s

    It's up there in modern terms, but it's no where near the ultimate hot Hatch. Older cars are a better experience, more steering feel, less weight, and they make better noises. Don't get me started on pop and bang maps 🤮🤮🤮🤮. Sound horrible and make you look an absolute tit everywhere you go.

      The steering feel of a E46 BMW is awesome comparing it to modern BMW and many other cars, and the Audi/VW steering was always boring and still is. Of course the E46 has less comfort, one with a performance suspension is pure pain, but I miss the funny times with that car. All new cars feel numb and sterile.

    How can it be the ultimate hot hatch when the Focus RS's, Meganes and Civic Type Rs exist. As standard all of these cars are far better than the M140i wh8xh as standard is a poor car to drive. The M140i does have the best engine though but that's the only place it excels.

    • @Chris-nj1mr

      Because a car isn't all about performance. The BMW has a far better infotainment and build quality than any of the cars you just mentioned, it's also RWD which comes with its own merits.
      The B58 engine is superb, again trumping the alternatives.
      Theyre all good cars, it comes down to preference.
      I dont own any of them, but I prefer the BMW

      @@Chris-nj1mr build quality is not all about soft touch dashboards and clunky feeling doors, that is perceived build quality. Build quality is actually defined by how long mechanical components and trim holds together etc Japanese cars have anything German licked in the actual build quality department.
      In regards to the infotainment, personally I prefer Fords sync 3 system over BMWs but I haven't used all of them from every manufacturer so can't say which is actually best...can you?

    • @Chris-nj1mr
      @Chris-nj1mr Před 3 lety

      @@tracktimevideos5164 You're confusing build quality with reliability. Japanese cars will always be more reliable, but the interiors are not designed as well. That's not really even up for debate, surely?
      I've owned a tuned megane 275 cup which was a fantastic car, and the partnership with Nissan certainly helped with reliability. In terms of driving pleasure, it beats the rest of the pack.
      Again, you can't seriously compare Fords infotainment with BMW, the M140i uses the same tech as you'd find in a top of the line 5 series. You may prefer it as you're familiar with it, but bmw is renowned for having a superb Idrive. Ask Matt Watson who tests them all for a living!

      Luke is removing the OPF filter not illegal when the car is used on public roads ? Every company who offers removal states “track use only” yet you openly admit having it done while driving !
