  • Within the pages of the Bible shines clear evidence and proof of a queer positive culture. The Bible must never again be used as an excuse for hate and division of the LGBTQ community. Rev. Dr. Cheri DiNovo has been the Member of Parliament for Parkdale - High Park for the last 11 years. She holds the record for most Private Member’s Bills passed by an MPP and the most pro-LGBTQ legislation than anyone in Canadian history. DiNovo is an ordained United Church Minister who performed the first legalized same-sex marriage. DiNovo won the Lambda Literary Award in Washington D.C. for spirituality and religion for her book, Queering Evangelism and has received numerous high profile awards for her 40+ years of activism. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Philip was not opposed to baptizing the Ethiopian eunuch. He was sent by the Holy Spirit to lead the eunuch to Jesus and then to baptize him. It was the eunuch who did not understand what the passage in Isaiah was talking about. "How can I understand unless someone explains it to me." the eunuch asked. Philip preached Jesus to him from the book of Isaiah. The eunuch asked, "What hinders me from being baptized?" Philip said, "If you believe with all your heart." The eunuch said, "I believe that Jesus is the Son of God." Then Philip baptized him.

The blood of Jesus Christ is enough for anyone to be saved who believes. What’s even more beautiful is that we join Christ in His death and resurrection. Upon believing in Him, our old self dies and we are given a new heart, new human spirit, and the Holy Spirit living in us. A born again person has completely new desires and sin will only make them miserable.

Israel becoming a nation again in 1948 after 2000 years is an absolute and definite marker for Christ’s soon return because the Bible tells us that the generation of that time (when Israel becomes a nation again) they will not all pass away before my (Jesus’) return to the earth. Depending on how long a generation is, and according to the Bible, it is anywhere from 70-80 years. It may even be 120 years according to scripture. Be woke. Be ready. Once the gospel has been introduced to every nation, that’s when Christ is expected to return to the earth. We are told to multiply and to populate the earth and we are told to teach/preach the gospel to all nations and then after that His return is soon.

Given that you've rejected using this verse to speak out against teachings contrary to the Bible since Satan is also familiar with scripture, how do you determine when this verse applies and when it doesn't?

From the perspective of an Atheist, I just want to say that it actually just shows how fallible the Bible truly is. If the Bible were the product of some infinitely perfect divine mind, there would be no confusion regarding it message. The fact that the Bible can be interpreted to mean pretty much anything is exactly why there are so many denominations that are supposedly all based on scripture. All of you religious folks think you have the inside scoop on truth when in reality you all can't agree on SO much.
As for homosexuality, the Bible never records God saying anything about it, so move on.

As for the confusion, Peter tells us that there are falsehoods in the scriptures and that those falsehoods serve a purpose. But you try to imagine how you would do things rather than how a far superior being would do things.
God, through the prophets, therefore, condemns homosexuality, calling it an abomination.

      @@TrustinJC
"God speaks through righteous men and women."
The inherent problem is that anyone can claim that God is speaking through them. Since people who claim to be divinely inspired can never come to complete agreement, it's pretty obvious that there is no such thing as divine inspiration. People simply need to learn how to recognize their own thoughts. If you want to claim that someone is truly divinely inspired, you would need to define an objective standard for determining which interpretations of scripture, and which ideas by men who claim to be divinely inspired, are correct. And you would have to do this *without* relying on what men who have claimed to be divinely inspired said. Otherwise that would be circular reasoning.
"God, through the prophets, therefore, condemns homosexuality"
You see, whether you realize it or not, you're actually basing this judgement on an interpretation of the Bible. The Bible can also be interpreted as not being against homosexuality (look up the debate on the word arsenokoitai and how most versions of the Bible don't actually mention homosexuality). There's a reason why there's so many versions of the Bible, scholars can simply not agree on the meaning of every word during the translation process. That is the simple fact. Objectively speaking, there's no way to determine who is correct, it really depends on which interpretations align with your personal value system, whether you consciencly realize that or not.
You need to stop gaslighting society by saying you have the inside scoop when it comes to absolute truth when the source you are claiming is absolute cannot even lead everyone to the same conclusion. That is why there are so many denominations, so many interpretations, so many rituals. No one can truly and honestly define an objective standard for deciphering truth without making some assumptions. If there are assumptions behind what you are claiming to be true, then that simply means your idea of truth is subjective. It's absurd to me, as an theist, how you can not see past your own subjective concepts of reality masked behind religion.

    • @wakeupthisisntreal8168

    • @TrustinJC
      @TrustinJC Před 2 lety +3

@@wakeupthisisntreal8168 Scripture defines "the standard". And that is not circular reasoning. Without the gold standard of scripture there would be no method to determine a true prophet from the false ones.
The fact that it is so difficult to recognize true prophets from false ones is evidence of scripture being true.
Christ warns Peter in the writing known as the Coptic Apocalypse of Peter that a multitude of false teachers would lead multitudes of people astray. He also warned that a man would deceive people with a manifold dogma. Dogma is what we today call doctrine and theology. Well, that is exactly what you have described.
You cannot see the truth because you have a preconceived notion of how God should and would do things. You have no understanding of what scripture actually teaches.
The fact that you claim there is no way to determine who and what is correct is evidence of this.
Why is it so hard to understand that just as any natural human attribute and set of skills is not the same or equal from person to person, neither are spiritual attributes and skills the same or equal. And just as any natural abilities can be honed and finely tunes, so too can spiritual attributes.
Just as only a very small percentage of humans will ever reach the skill and abilities needed to compete in the olympics, so too is it with matters pertaining to the spiritual. If you do not put in the work, you will never be able to compete. And you have chosen to not put in the work. That is on you.
So just because you lack understanding and spiritual discernment due to laziness and ignorance does not mean those that have put in the work are in the same boat as you.

I love how she has gotten to this place without throwing away her faith however, I wasn't able to do the same... I had to leave my faith behind but because of that, I finally was able to believe that god really does love me 🥰 My process was awful though... When I realized the voi1ence Leviticus commands towards me (were I to live back in those times), I felt such dsepair and knew that I wouldn't be long for this world if I kept believing that. To me, that verse calls for a hloca^st (censoring that word for CZcams)... mass excti^ns that weren't just talked about but actually carried out. BTW, I do respect people with faith so I'm not meaning to be insulting...
When I bring up that verse in Leviticus, my experience with religious folks is that they always dismiss it... saying that it really doesn't matter anymore because "We're under the new covenant now". The only issue with that is that no amount of time can excuse the hloc^ust of the old testament anymore than it erases the effects of the one that happened 80 years ago. And to so easily dismiss it feels insulting to the memory of all those who were lost... More over, d eath is still on the table according to Romans... it's a spiritual d eath though (as in h ell which I would say is much worse than the capital punishment of Leviticus).
My point is that the bible says some very awful things about us and it would be SO nice if religious folks would stop saying that we aren't allowed to be hurt or offended by them...
PS... Sorry for the spelling errors. They were intentional as CZcams sometimes doesn't allow my comments to post if I include certain words...

I had to stop watching when she got to the Ethiopian eunuch part. For one, he was not the first Christian convert. That designation belongs to Cornelius and his entire household, all of whom were baptized by Peter. If by being a member of the clergy and you can't make that clear, it'll be hard for me to give credence to anything you teach. Second, there is no empirical scriptural evidence to suggest that the Ethiopian eunuch was the first person of color to be converted. Jewish proselytes visited Jerusalem, at least, three times a year. So that would leave open the possibility that someone, perhaps during Pentecost 33 C.E., could have been converted to Christianity as a person of color. Having said that, my biggest grievance with the entire premise of this video is the fact that Rev. Dr. Cheri DiNovo thinks she's speaking for all Christians in her complete abuse and misapplication of holy scripture. While I, whole-heartedly, disagree with any judgment or discrimination displayed toward the LGBTQ+ community, the Bible simply does not condone, sanction, or promote homosexuality. That is not something that can be glossed over or omitted from the Bible.

Context context context.... I know non believers get tired of hearing about context in the bible, but really each book in the bible has a context. To apply her reasoning about the book of Leviticus to the Apostle Paul is to assume the bible has just one context. What Paul spoke to the christian church is quite more applicable to today's christian church than what Moses spoke to the ancient tribes of Israel. However, Leviticus shows us about how God desires particular people who walk in his ways and closely follow his law. It's relevant to Christians because we know that God is really after people with inward parts that are like His and so Leviticus show us how particular and detailed He is about whats in our heart.

Well, then I'd like to see you paying attention that your robes are not made of two different fabrics as it is written in Lev. 19. How come that we only ever take out this book when it comes to the topic of relationships we might find weird?
Still, Paul was also applicable to HIS time, which, mind I remind you, used to live already 2000 years ago. Do you know how much language changes even within a century? So how exactly is a text that we read in a language of 20 centuries ago in a translation which is already shaped by the view of the times it was translated DIRECTLY applicable to nowadays society? I'd like to give you some context: There is NO word for homosexuality in either ancient Latin, Greek or Hebrew which are the languages in which the bible was written. If you mind to look up the interlinear translation of, for example, Corinthians 6, 9-10, the words Paul uses to describe what some people later translated with "homosexuals", the words Paul uses here are actually "malakoi", meaning "effeminate boy" and "arsenokoitai" which is a neologism of Paul, a combination of the Greek words for "Men" and "bed". "Malakoi" was mostly common used in the times to describe male protitutes. These prostitutes were mostly boys AND slaves, so nowadays we would call what has been done with them r*pe and ped0philia. Since "arsenokoitai" is directly written AFTER "malakoi", it would be a valid assumption that Paul was referring to the men who used these male prostitutes for their pleasure. Tell me, how exactly is this applicable to a nowadays lived relationship with two grown up individuals who love each other equally, have the same right to consent or to say "No", not doing what they're doing out of selfish pleasure but rather out of love? Who may even help each other grow towards and walk the road that our Lord has shown us?

KOL False prophet? Well, to my knowledge she never prophecies anything in the video. He definitely suggests against it, and also tells that he would rather a man be a pastor over a woman, but honestly, that seems like his personal preference. Just because it's in the Bible doesn't necessarily mean you are to follow it. Some things are just opinions from writers, or, examples of what not to do. For instance, the infanticide decreed by King Herod. Well, infanticide is in the Bible, and Herod did it, so why can't I kill babies? (Not that I would, but some Christians think abortion is ok). Or Paul; he killed numerous Christians before his conversion. Just because Paul is depicted as a murderer, can't I be a murderer too? You see, just because Paul said he doesn't want women to be pastors, doesn't mean God doesn't condone it. Just because Herod condoned the slaughter of hundreds of babies, doesn't mean God condoned it at all!! I hear you, and I see your point - I just believe it's wrong.

Boy this women is an example of trying to understand God's word without the light and instruction of the indwelling Holy Spirit. She's not a Christian!

Wow people will twist anything to justify their mess. I wonder does she know The Whole Heavenly Host hears her blasphemy. I pray for all who wish to justify sin and trample on the work off the cross. Sin should not have power over us but actually under our feet along with all that satan present as good or some higher knowledge. The denial we go through for Christ is not to be compared to the Glory that we will see and be in the presence of if we can just hold on.

no, pull the log out of your eyes. most churches are reprobate, like the mega churches making cash in the church is reprobate, turning away any of Gods Children is reprobate. holding hatred in your heart is reprobate. men and woman giving over to their drunkeness and lust is reprobate. she may be confused but she is coming from a place of love, not a stance of judgement and authority.....Your not God.. And Jesus is the Word of God and God in the flesh. not a book though the book be blessed. Most of you are living in cognitive dissonance.
ps revelation was added to the Gospels. it contradicts the Gospel. and plays into the pharisees lust of a conquering king. instead of a lover murdered by the state and the church of the day.......Jesus wont spit you out. Jesus wont Kill you. All are saved. especially those believers that call on his name.

This is why it’s important to read your Bible, go to study classes and not listen to false testimony of people who want to do there own thing and stray away from GOD.
Matthew 7:21-23 as Jesus warned about false salvation. Jesus said these words: “Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

Wayne Jamel you have 15 mins or less- taking time to find the references for her 8-10 examples would have added more than 30 secs... so it was a time-saving measure “I have this book here ... and have read it ... and analysis has revealed some GLBT truths throughout this Canon”. You don’t swear on a bible by opening it up in court after all. It stays closed. Same!
