To change things up, you can add 1/2 teaspoon of dried cilantro, 1 teaspoon of tomato paste, and 1/2 teaspoon of white sugar. Instead of frying them, put them on a parchment paper lined tray, brush them with an egg wash, and bake them at 400° for 22 minutes.

Definitely not how my mother makes it haha. She makes the meat and vegetables and meat together in a pot. We would also use sofrito, sazon, adobo. Also we use the orange disks, but add cheese for a nice flavor. I enjoy more cheese than most lol.

When cutting onions start at the bottom and do not cut the rooty part that looks like the top
I guarantee you will not cry...remember do not cut the bottom part with those things like roots that is the secret and no tears and just bin the rolt part when finished

This in my home would be the adult version but since I am making these for my son (12) I put peas, carrots and corn pieces in them so he can have his veggie servings since he is not a fan of veggies except broccoli... Another thing I sometimes add to change the recipe sometimes is add cut up olives and it gives it a great taste....another thing that I make with leftover dough is I slit two holes in the dough and I fry them and then eat them with honey or syrup depending on what you like and they come out really good ,in my opinion 😊

Sofrito is like a sauce but we use it as a base in our cooking (I'm puerto rican btw) i know other spanish countries do it but i will tell you the way my mother makes it. My great grandmother, grandmother and mother make it this way so there is no right and wrong way of cooking everyone cooks different but sofrito is used in a lot of puerto rican dishes. I've always grew up with homemade sofrito I've never had any of the store bought but the brand goya sells some in stores which is easier for those who don't want to go through all the trouble. For sofrito you need the blender of course, some people use a tiny bit of water or oil to help it break down in the blender, green peppers, red peppers sometimes my family does orange peppers, garlic cloves, yellow onions, culantro (recao), cilantro, and ajies dulce peppers we dont always put them in they can be hard to find but yeah thats all you just blend it and put it away.

Maybe your oil isn't hot enough, so instead of frying. You basically soaking the dough in oil

Buy a thermometer to go into the pot of oil if thats how you are frying them. I fry them over 360 to 375 watch your temp it goes up fast.
