I think some low profile tires will set it off leave it as is and enjoy it.
Mom had a Malibu Classic. She totally loved it. And she is 82 and remembers it fondly.
I think a custom roll pan on the back and ditching the gigantic rear bumper would do a lot for it
You need to fix it up, and turn it into you family hauler/shop truck. The wagon frame and from clip was used on the Chevy El Camino for that year.
Lowering springs,drop spindle's, leave the body like it is,fix the break's and give her a tune up.and enjoy the ride🏁

It's sooo funny 🤣 watching a cool Father teaching his son how to do cool rebel things. Plus, it's hard to stop doing burnouts when it's so much fun. This is tradition in America, doing burnouts down the street with billowing smoke that's drifting by the wind 🍃. What a cool fun thing to do. Good job amazing Father!!! Fix the rust and blend in the paint. Big wheels and airbags. Get it down low. It's a sweet ride. Do all the things to make it run better and stop. Straight pipe exhaust and fix the interior up and good to go.

I love the idea of a 4 door El Camino. But I think the ride height should stay right where it is with wider old school wheels.
Awesome! Lower it. Narrow the rear axle, install a posi, & put some 20x12's in the rear / 20x8.5's in the front.
You just made a huge profit on that car just from the memory you made with your son!

Ditch the giant rear bumper, custom roll pan with the stock taillights in it, add positraction, and tub the rear to put some stupidly wide tires outback.
