This is a very detailed video on how to build a deck around a pool. We start by digging the holes, building the frame, screwing down the decking, building stairs, a swing gate, and access door, lattice and frame, baluster railing and treating the new wood with my favorite CWF cedar tone color. The deck is built partially around the pool. We used treated lumber on the entire project. We used ACQ approved screws and nails. - Jak na to + styl
who is watching it without a pool
Me 😂😂😂
The boldness and confidence in which they used that nail... near that pool was epic
I love this video thanks! As a cabinet maker not carpenter, I believe i can do this easily after watching this 20 times. Lol great job thanks
My husband is by no means a carpenter but we watched your video 5 times. He then built our deck around our above ground pool. It came out great; I think my husband surprised himself that he could do such a project. Thank you so much for your great detailed video!
Hope yours is held together with more then a few nails like this jokers.
@@tom-fp2fv hater 🚨.
@@tom-fp2fv I was exactly thinking about that, nothing is holding all this but a few nails 😂
I saw a bunch of nails and screws What are you guys talking about@@tom-fp2fv
If your husband built your deck like this. GOD HELP YOU! In the first 5 minutes I counted 32 code violations, aside from the nailing , footing placement
Man there's so much to love about the editing of this video. The close ups of the level bubbles. The slow-motion nail gunning. The soothing 1950s grocery store music. I'm loving this so far.
Hannah Southerland ,, hahhaha the comment about the grocery store music is just my all time favourite,,, thank You for being :))) ,, on a technical note I wonder how his treated wood posts look after these 8 years of being with a direct contact with earth ,,
@@prankster2046 8yrs? Be serious he's on his third pool deck by now if there are enough nails for his gun More worrying was no notches in the posts and not a single nut & bolt

i was a carpenter for 25 years, your the best with a circular saw, I've ever seen. Great job.
That was not only a magnificent job but MARVELOUS to watch.
That did it! I have zero desire to build a deck myself.
Agree
me too bro. zero desire. l just wish for someone to do it for me.
Why would this video dissuade anyone from building a deck?
@Ken you can do it.
Me too😆
Hello viewers !!!!! I have a floor plan drawing of this deck on my web site at craigheffernan.com
I hope it helps you build it yourself and save.
+Craig Heffernan why didnt yall show the cuts around the pool radius?
I was thinking the same thoughts Super Plum.
+Denny Grimes I figured it out! At the point of the radius just make a mark on either side of the board it won't be 100% exact but it'll be hidden under the coping. If u have to cut along the coping it will still b simple aswell, cause the coping isn't really sharp but mellow and the cuts will b nice.
+Craig Heffernan I love the deck ,but I would personally prefer to use all screws in the construction.
+Griffon129 that's what I was thinking
OMG....I love this...and all the work and everything you did on this desk was amazing....now I wish I can have a pool and a big backyard so you can build me a nice deck....Saludos desde México !!! ☺☺☺👍👍👍👍👍👍
that's what I call craftsmanship. Well done!
This video is underrated for mix and quality of shots showing all relevant steps. This was allot of work 10 years ago to make this video. Awesome & thankyou.
Wow Craig, you make it look so easy. Lot of experience behind this professional work, but you put it all out there for us to follow. Thank you. :)
Im getting tired of building everyones deck so I'm showing as much as i can so you can do it yourself. thanks for watching, Craig Heffernan
@@Deckbuilding Do you take the deck boards flush with the top of the pool rail would like a closer pick how you did that
GREAT JOB. You are a true craftsman.
I thought it was going to be boring at first but the music and the work they were being performed made it worth my while... Good job sir
..
absolutely stunning, perfect. unbelieveble. a masterpiece. Congrats Craig, a true professional
Very useful!
Somewhere across America there is a lonely Elevator wanting its music back...
Or a 1950s sitcom.
😂
True, but it's better that the head splitting racket that most videos use. At least with elevator music, there are no tortured cats, scratched chalkboards, bawling cattle or screeching chupacabra being used to make the ..."music".😝😆😁
Awesome!
😂
Very nice work on this deck and I learned a couple of tricks to apply to the one I am about to build next week. Thanks for posting this video.
I had no ability or intention of doing this, I mean heck I don’t even have a pool lol but I think this is one of the best videos I’ve ever seen of someone building something. No unnecessary talking or obnoxious and loud music…just men doing their job and doing it well…thank you for your service sir lol
Great craftsmanship and a beautiful end result. Woodworking is one of the most rewarding skills to have. Great video!
I like the way you built the steps without all the typical sawing.
But he still did the normal calculations to get it up to code.
Wonderfully executed, and extraordinarily filmed!
Thanks a million for your post!
The music was SOOOOO appropriate! Subscribed. Amazing craftsmanship!
You, guys, are the best. 5 stars.

Some items in this video are glanced over. We used joist hangers and 3/8" lag screws and washers through the 2x8 bands into the posts. For more detail s on the way we install joist hangers and lag screws see the "How To Build a Ground Level Deck"on our channel, click the Bull.

Craig Heffernan did you not use concrete in the front post near pool and why not?
Craig Heffernan
I didn't see hangers or lags. On the other hand, that thing is rock solid and you could park a car on it.
Sir, I thoroughly enjoyed watching the expertise of this build. You made a tough job look fairly easy.
Even though you are a master Craftsman on these decks, I still see how your skills have progressed over the last 10 years, we're never too old to learn. Keep up the good work. I just vacation in Erie near the Presque Isle Park very beautiful.
Awesome, I swear, lol
You guys make it look so bloody easy.
Pretty sure my hubby has either all or most of the tools to achieve this great looking deck.
I think I’ll be talking the hubby into making this great deck for our pool .
Thank you for making this very informative video...
Pretty cool.....
:)
I kinda thought I could do this myself, up until I saw his Construction company logo on his shirt. He’s a professional.
Watching him build that deck, really makes me want to get out there and build something, if I ever get done with my patio. I love wood. Just saw a video about making my own pool. Can't wait.
It's really not that hard if you know basic carpentry. If not then yeah don't bother
Keep saying you can't do it and you can't........ Start saying "I CAN!!!".... and you CAN!!!
At one point he didn't know anything about construction but he learned along the way. If he can do it, you can too.
He didn’t do it by himself. He had 2 helpers. Extra hands. When I have help my ambition is greater. No help some work can be difficult. Try to plan it. Go over the actions in your head. Try it. I installed a 21’ above ground pool watching so many CZcams videos. I hardly had any help. Most of my help came when the pool was done. They helped me get wet. Preparation is key.
All I can say is WOW!!!! Wish I could take your skills for about 3 days!! Your GREAT!!
congratulations Craig you work hard and faster.... incredible.
The pace, clarity, and editing on this video was great! wish more youtube videos were this well made.
You can always tell when a real pro at something, is doing the task. Versus some schlub like myself. Totally satisfied watching this video
That was so satisfying! Nicely done. 👍🏽✨🔨🏆
Excellent video. Just to let you know after 9 years this video is still helping others build a deck.
Who else was brought here by the quarantine.

man...it looks SO hot outside and that pool looks so refreshing
Next weekend's project. thanx!
Easily one of the most entertaining and didactic videos I've seen. You are all masters. I've working with wood and you all make it seem so easy and get everything to work so perfectly. Thanks for publishing this, best regards and all the best to your company.
Wow!! All American made! True professionals that take pride in what They do. Hard to find anymore. Thanks for posting Your work. The deck turned out great!

I like the way that you describe things. good job MN
Normally, I am a critic, but this is a very professional deck build. You bring honor to our trade, man.
I have 30 years framing and building experience and I have to say that this is one of the best quality decks I have seen built. Very good job i do say. Only little thing i saw was it didn't look like enough space between pool and deck for a winter cover to attach. Other than that I was happy to watch your video. Great job sir.
And they built in in 15 minutes!
Really? No stair footing, didn’t cut a proper stringer, singled beam, screws in shear force locations securing stairs? Where tf did you work haha😂 let’s not forget no fuckin concrete? Not even navy jack or drain rock??
Good ole Hitachi/Metabo power tools!
And to also change liner
@@mmedina6924 …… yup, when it comes time to change the liner, how do you unscrew the caps and get them off and back on?
Excellent and fun job. Thank you for sharing.
Hermoso trabajo, fueron losmjores 15 minutos que he invertido en CZcams, estos son los hombres que debería tener en mi familia, gracias por compartir su talento!!
great job...u make me feel like building something.
The 7.4 mil people want a in ground pool with a deck like this, who agrees?
I don't.
Absolutely!
A pool itself does nothing but hold water.
If I can hold water for $400 instead of $4000 I can afford a LOT better deck and\or pump & filter.
Why do people think the deck, pump & filter should cost less than the pool?
The pool ...holds water.
The pump & filter .....determines how clean the water is, how much time, frustration, headache and work it costs to keep the water clean AND it can even effect the cost of chemicals over time.
The deck ....it protects the pool, supports the weight of everyone on it, gives you a space for laying out, grilling, eating, all sorts of stuff.
It's like saying "I want a Corvette. The engine costs $5000 so I can only spend $3000 on everything else.
No, "Everything else" is what makes the difference between a noisy paperweight, and an awesome experience in car form.
Same with a pool.
You got a lot done in 15 minutes. Wow. Looks great.
That is a beautiful deck, awesome job. I was never any good with wood working, you made it look so easy.

I thought this was going to be just an ordinary deck build by somebody that doesn’t know what they’re doing but this is awesome! Good editing, solid build, and really cool idea with the lattice. This video is so satisfying

And this is what you should get when you pay to have a deck built! Excellent! Great attention to detail!! Thanks for the video!!
Hey Craig beautiful deck I was just wanting to build one like it myself in like an earlier post said county board is difficult could you possibly send the materials list
You guys do good work! Thanks for the video.

Sanding treated timber without a mask is an interesting sport, the ingredients here in the UK for CCA are Copper, Chrome and Arsenic.
Be safe!!
We're not allowed to use arsenic anymore. Hell, I wouldn't really call the stuff we use treated anymore.
15:01 later, you made that look WAY TOO EASY. Truely blessed with gifted skills!
Wow! Thanks for the effort in giving us wanna be deck builders a tutorial on adding the finer points to a masterful deck-
I used to be an FM dj. We go a lot on music, creating interest and passion. I laughed at the one comment about elevators missing their music...
Do NOT attach the deck to the pool or you will regret it when trying to put the winter cover on. Leave about 1/2 inch to 1 inch clearance to stick the winter cover in between or it WILL blow off or rip. I have experience with this. It is basically impossible to have the water bags hold it down or rope to tie it across the deck, the wind will get under it and ruin it. (if you live in a wintry area like Northeast USA)
Ive watched this video alot . Ive built several decks with your guidance . I learn something new everytime i watch it
Wow way to go wiskers, Im putting together some more videos soon
He did an awesome job, very professional I love it
This is what my wife wants me to build around our pool. No way in the world I can do this 😂. This was unbelievable to watch, wow. Great job.
RILLA MAN we just did
TaZe_XxOneShot How did it turn out?
You need at least a small area to sit on where an adult can watch the children at all times so in case they get in trouble you are right there and can jump in to get them to the sides so they are ok. Happens every year I have to get a child out that got tired or scared .
Uaaaau incrível. Amei

Wow incredible? Love? Am I right?

Wow thank you guys for this video. I'm building one just like this now, awesome.
I’ve almost finished building this and it’s looking great. I have ZERO carpentry knowledge and it’s definitely been a learning experience, but it’s totally doable. The wood came in at about $2700 at Menard’s.
You guys are good!!! Only wish you were in Puerto Rico!
All I can think is how expensive this deck would be to build right now with the cost of wood. ~Super Yikes~
It is extremely expensive I just had one built and the price of lumber went up 25% since my materials were purchased. Right now a 2 in ×12in×20ft is about a 100 a board.
Treated 2x8x12 and a box of screws... $75 yesterday. Ridiculous
As of 6.5.2021 the list he has cost me $2700
@@patrickcrawford3673 Not trying to pry into but what size deck are you going to build, I'm just curious as you can see above I already had one built just wondering if I got screwed, lol
Not that bad I’m a contractor in Los Angeles and I just build one that was 14x22x14 with a 5 ft deck and stairs for a good client and the material ran me about 2300…. So I think it’s not too bad if you just choose the right contractor who won’t rip you off.
Belíssimo trabalho!! Parabéns!!!👏👏👏
You make it look so easy, thanks for the share.
This is an awesome deck! I love that you and your crew pay attention to every single detail! I love your work! What would a deck like this run?
You’ve just uninspired me to even start!! Thanks
After watching this i straight up thought to myself im gonna have to go to carpentry school and then become an apprentice framer for a few years to learn these skills haha
Over 9 million views...over 100 are mine lol. Getting ready to build my own deck around our pool. Love watching your videos Craig. Also, really enjoy the WAY you edit them, so easy to watch and nothing annoying.
Great job guys;. Super craftsmanship!
My gosh y’all are pros. Here I thought. “Well maybe I can do it. I’ll go watch a video on CZcams.” Well y’all make it look so easy. Who am I kidding. I went nuts putting my 4 year olds playground set together. Took me week & half by myself. Got it done and he rarely plays on it. He rather ride his fourwheeler. I got it cause he loved the park. So I got one for home.
This deck I’ll leave to professionals like y’all to do. Lol
I love it!! Where can I get plans for it?
Great video!! Deck looks amazing!!
Beautiful craftsmanship.
Excellent result, worth the amount of requirements and it's price for it. Thanks for showing us in this tutorial!
A question about this though: which kind of wood is the best for this to keep in mind the weather conditions such as rain and snow? I would say you used birch wood for it, but isn't this of short duration unless you undercoat and polish it?
Wow! Beautiful... Great job! This is professional in every way, I can tell you take great pride in your work, and it shows!
That deck will be there long after the pool is gone. Beautiful
God damn those must be some pretty precise measurements!
When you have all the right tools for the job it's much easier to get perfect measurment but i agree it is a perfect deck
Dang! That was some nice pro job there! What did it cost in materials and what did you charge in labor?
More than the cost of the pool.
@@techcomsouth7424 I can imagine! And how much in $ ?
Great job , working with wood is just awesome well done guy,s.
