      It shows what the camera on my head is recording. I keep checking to make sure the camera didn't shift. I think the model is the Sony asv200. I got mine on Amazon a couple years ago. I like the angle of the head mount better than the chest mounts a lot of guys use.

  • @ultimatejay

    Nice catches, what is the purpose of a slow pitch jig rod that has so much flex in the rod? Seems like a lot of hook sets were missed because the rod tip is too soft?

    • @socaljiggingwithjohnny8287
      @socaljiggingwithjohnny8287  Před 4 lety +2

      That rod was about one level light for the weight of the jig and the current. I generally hook up on most bites. I enjoy fishing slow pitch because I'm catching relatively nice sized fish on setups that weigh about the same as a trout setup.

    • @ultimatejay
      @ultimatejay Před 4 lety

      Johnny Wong -what kind of slow pitch jig rod do you recommend for rockfish in California?

    • @socaljiggingwithjohnny8287
      @socaljiggingwithjohnny8287  Před 4 lety

      I think the most common jigs you'll use in 150-300 get of water. Are 150-250 grams, with 200 the most common, so rods in that weight class generally work the best. That would be a temple reef #2, or a #4 in other brands like Shimano and Daiwa. I haven't had a chance to fish many of the newer brands yet.

    • @ultimatejay
      @ultimatejay Před 4 lety +1

      Johnny Wong - thanks, I was watching a guy give a seminar on slow pitch jigging and he said you don’t want to raise and lower the rod that you just want to crank the reel handle and it loads the rod and pitches the jig.

    • @socaljiggingwithjohnny8287
      @socaljiggingwithjohnny8287  Před 4 lety +2

      @@ultimatejay if you watch the videos, there are many different methods that people use. I do what I feel makes the jig move the best based on the conditions. There is no perfect or correct way to fish slow picky jigs, IMO. When the fish are there and active, you are often on a fish already when you got bottom and put the reel in gear, without having imparted any action except whatever the jig was doing while sinking.

    How do you not get snagged dropping down over rocky bottoms?

    • @socaljiggingwithjohnny8287
      @socaljiggingwithjohnny8287  Před 2 lety +2

      Make sure it doesn't sit on the bottom, you should be lifting pretty much right when it hits so it doesn't drag on the bottom(varies based on drift speed and line scope). Also, I do get snagged pretty often, but when you are constantly in touch with the jig, you can bounce it out as soon as you know you're snagged. I'd guess that I can bounce the jig out of 9 out of 10 snags. The majority of trips I don't lose any jigs to snags, but there are always bad days. My worst was 6 in a couple hours.
