- I like to film my recording sessions because I prefer the "old school" approach of tracking full takes. It means I have to learn the song and create a musical flow through the track. I play differently because I have to pace myself through the duration of the track. It sounds and feels different and I personally much prefer that vibe. Anyways, Theo Van Niel Jr. is a Dutch guitar player and I recorded several tracks on his upcoming album which will be released later this year. Hope you enjoy! This video is for all the people who think he is only a hand and foot speed guy. I watched his lesson on "Drumeo" and the host sort of sat there in awe as he flew through various rudiment combinations like he was answering simple questions about some banal topic. He's done his work and it shows. And he can grove as well as the rest. What a giant.
Like Kenny said, Thomas is and has been a reliable and in demand studio drummer since long before he started making videos and blowing other drummer's minds. Heck, he toured with Geri Halliwell when she first went solo. Straight pop drumming right there.

Update guys: It's now nearing the end of 2022 and this drumming is STILL incredible! Quality doesn't age.
Anything you keep practicing doesn't keep you the same, you improve. He's Better here than he was 6 years ago.
Look at Ian Paice, the only remaining member of Deep Purple. At 72 he destroys drum kits!
Thomas is probably my favorite drummer living today. Just amazing. My only comment-and this goes for 85% of the drumming videos I’ve watched from everybody across the planet-the toms aren’t loud enough. I can barely hear them. Especially when the music is playing; the toms get completely lost. The snare always cuts through loud and clear, the toms are the red-headed step-children of the drum kit. Again, on nearly every video I watch, no matter who is drumming.
Astounding as usual and it's nice seeing Lang play a song rather than a solo or drum gymnastics.
I hear ya, bro, I hate it when he does all that super talented, really, really difficult stuff that we aspire to be able to do and repeatedly just displays his drumming prowess. I'm gonna go watch some AC/DC.

This is great. So good to see Lang playing something that us humans can have a go at. Much more enjoyable to watch how he built up with intensity rather than not knowing how or what he is playing.

Fantastic playing, Thomas. I love your beautiful hand technique ... this seems to get overlooked because of your skill with the feet. I was not surprised when I saw in one of your interviews that your started with a Richard Hochrainer book. You must have had some good solid training right from the start. Though I play classical percussion first and drum set second, your outstanding playing and dedication are inspiring to me no matter what I am doing.

Fucking ridiculous and Incredible insane! What an awesome song!
Hard hitting damn. I used his sig sticks for years, they are so heavy but feel so good. I eventually stopped using them when I realized they were too much for my little girly-dude wrists, but they really helped me let go and throw/catch. And they are so heavy they make it easy to play cleanly and consistently. And the buzz rolls with them are pure perfection with no effort since they hold so much potential energy due to the weight and bounce like mad. Great sticks if you're an average or bigger dude. I still use them on the practice pad though.
