  • Oslo's neoclassical Royal Palace was designed by Hans Linstow and is positioned on a knob at the west end of Oslo’s main throughfare, Karl Johans gate. This is one of the country’s most important building with a concrete symbol of the course of history since 1814. King Charles III reigned over a united Norway and Sweden.
The Royal Palace belongs to the state where daily work of the monarchy works and where the King and Queen live and is open to the public during the summer.

Around the side is “The Palace Park”, one of the capital’s first and largest parks. It surrounds the Royal Palace on all sides with features of grassy areas as well as old majestic trees. This park dating back to 1751. This park is a wonderful place to relax and have a picnic.
The Changing of the Guard is when the on duty are relieved by a new guard. The whole process takes about 40 minutes and doesn’t have much spunk but it is worth adding to your Oslo itinerary.
