    Just like disabling Sticky Keys, enabling the Always On Top in options on Task Manager makes it easier for me to force close games that become frozen/unresponsive because TM is usually stuck behind a frozen game you can't minimize.

    I think a big one you're missing is AutoHotKey. At its most basic, you can bind keys together. So if a game wants you to use the P key and won't let you rebind that, you can map R to P and so whenever you press R, it sends a P to the game. You can also have a single key do multiple key presses, which can help prevent RSI for some action games! It's also free and open source.

    A note on #9, notepad++: another great thing about it is it keeps your notes through computer crashes and unexpected reboots. So if you are in a corporate environment and weekly patching reboots your computer while you were logged in, whatever was in notepad++ is retained while normal notepad or most text editors would lose that data permanently.

    Only thing I'd say about recording with the Nvidia software, is it does record at a constant frame rate. So if you're thinking of recording a long video using it, it will eventually not sync with the video. To fix this, download 'handbrake' and it will change your footage to a constant framerate.

    There was a couple of things that I'll certainly have to add to my list of programs especially super f4 after having a ton of issues with fallout 4 hopefully that will make life simpler, I would recommend Mod Organizer 2 over Vortex simply due to ease of use, after many years of console gaming I finally changed over to pc last year and started out using Vortex and I discovered how it could be frustrating to set up if your using a long list of mods with games like Skyrim and fallout but with MO2 it was much more intuitive and simpler to use.

    If you're planning on modding a Bethesda game, Mod Organizer 2 is superior to Vortex in basically every way

      @derrickgregg7639 Před 3 lety +3

      Im so torn because I use both, and even started with the og mod organizer. I like Vortex because it feels more user friendly but my god. When you have to mess with load order or individual files within certain mods, its the worst. So then I go back to MO2 until it starts hurting my eyes 😂 Its a cyclical hell

    • @sentientshadow126
      @sentientshadow126 Před 2 lety

      @@derrickgregg7639 I'm no pro-modder and have only really gotten into it for Skyrim to the point where the vanilla game is almost unbearable now. But I've just been making do with Vortex to install and let it sort out most things and if I feel the load order needs to be adjusted (or am told it does by Vortex, pretty sure that happens sometimes... maybe...) I boot up LOOT and overall I've not had any issues but since Vortex has the integration with the site and is a tool I've used nice before it was called Vortex (a change which kinda threw me for a while) I'm kinda iffy about moving to a new mod manager when the one I'm comfortable with is still doing what I want it to.

    Some of these programs slow down your PC and always run in the background, with telemetry, advertising and “monitoring” data. Processes will add up, and are persistent software, meaning you can’t really turn it off at all. Thus presenting security concerns and constant PC resource consumption.

    25: For those who aren't afraid of the commandline, Windows Package Manager (winget) the is a good option officially made by Microsoft. In fact, I think it even comes pre-installed.
    19: The reason is in the name for the Settings category.

It's not as hard as it looks and once you get the hang of it, it's actually much easier to use than Vortex. Also, a lot of experienced modders use it so if you ever need help with anything, you'll have an easier time finding it.

    A very useful program for using a PS4 controller on PC is DS4Windows (DS4 in Linux), it's really easy to use and gets updated constantly!
    Pro tip: To pair the controller hold PS button + share button for a few seconds, light will start to flash, then just add it as a normal bluetooth device on your PC. It seems that with some versions if the program is running at the time you pair it, you need to close and open it again for it to detect it, other versions work perfect by pairing while the app is open

      Also, just closing Steam may be all you need to do if a game natively supports PS controllers. I was using DS4Windows to use my DualSense with FFXIV, but eventually figured out that I don't need any software for that; I just needed to close Steam so it'd stop hijacking my controller.
