I think the same. I feel Yoda had *already* done what Dooku was asking. He had embraced his dark side.
The other Jedi lived in fear of it, so they were basically suppressing a half of themselves. Dooku tried and failed, because ultimately his pride and ego overcome his compassion and humility.
But Yoda had done precisely what the Jedi are meant to: to bring balance to the force, not worship the light side or be consumed by the dark side like the Sith. He had *already* made peace with his desires, his emotions and his fears. This means he must have faced them.
He had already united both sides of the force within himself. He did not need to 'use' the dark side but he had access to it.
He's simply never tried to 'give in' to it before this moment. From the language often used, it seems the dark side is more of a baser, animal instinct that one 'gives in' to while the light side is a more theological or intellectual set of tenets that one 'believes in'. Yoda did neither. He simply allowed the Force to guide him.

It must be hard for Yoda, seeing Dooku becoming their ultimate enemy (before they knew Sidious even existed), as Dooku was Yoda's personal Padawan. The first one he had in such a long time, seeing so much potential inside of Dooku.
Although, for all Yoda's wisdom, he remained blind to the real problems Dooku had with the Jedi's dogmatism and the legitimate grievances many planets in the galaxy had with the Republic. Yoda really could have been a force for change for the better inside the order had he not been so blinded by dogma. It's hard to imagine that someone as wise as he was couldn't see the issues that surrounded him every day, as they really were quite glaring imo 🤷

I think one of the biggest reasons Yoda was ok with letting go and being so understanding that not everything can be controlled was his age. Years of seeing so many lives lost, having that much time to cope and learn was a luxury. One not everyone could be afforded. Other force users looked for the quicker and easier way because not everyone gets a couple centuries to build as strong of a sense of self. He was incredibly wise, but I think that numbness dulled how well he could empathize with others.

Dooku’s real issue was pride, not the Jedi. He thought he deserved more recognition. Palpatine manipulated Dooku into thinking he would get it. Instead he was just a patsy and a practice dummy for Anakin.

  • @crownprincesebastianjohano7069

Dark Rendezvous is perhaps the best Clone Wars era novel. Never before, or after, is Yoda or Dooku written so well and to character. No other novel really puts home how much Dooku's departure from the Jedi was a big deal, and how big of a score it was for Sidious to recruit Dooku as Yoda says "The most powerful Dooku was. The most learned, the most knowledgeable. Our greatest student, our greatest failure." It is only novel that explains clearly why Yoda broke centuries of tradition, and his own 300 year old personal rule, that the Grand Master does not take a padawan. Yoda felt he was the only one capable of training such a powerful and gifted student. It more than anything underlines the twin failures of Dooku and Anakin, because the Jedi made the same mistake TWICE with their most gifted students.

Luke was never stronger than Vader as of the OT. In ESB, he gets shit on. As of ROTJ, it’s only after a lengthy time spent training that he’s even at that Knight level. He really only even beats Vader at the end by not only giving into the Dark Side, but by Vader not even fully intending on killing Luke (or at least feeling conflicted and not fully present with one direction). Luke is powerful as of the end of ROTJ, but is nowhere near Grandmaster level, and had also trained much more than just on Dagobah in ESB

Yoda doesn't want power, so it doesn't seem likely he would fall to the dark side, just from channeling his passion to save his friends. A lot of force users have used their passions without turning evil and cruel and using it from a good way, to save people's life shouldn't be as dangerous as he thinks. It would be more like taking a step towards a grey jedi, than a step towards the sith.

I like the way Maul taught Ezra about how emotion and passion fuels the dark side, and the way Ezra learned that your family and connection to them can be your safe place and tether to the light, instead of being a path to the dark. I agree with Yoda’s point about being content and grateful, and I agree with Dooku’s point that the “dark side” is just another part of the force. Honestly I don’t think people get “consumed by the dark side” and lost forever, I think it has more to do with the individual’s pride, and having that much power means you don’t have to apologize or humble yourself. I think it’s not that the dark side turns people, I think it just gives corrupt individuals a way to not have to have accountability for their actions, and an excuse for what they did in case they get caught.

There was a similar meme regarding Grogu. It was Grogu in the future teaching his own Padawan and he told him that love and connection to others (which Jedi eschew) does not necessarily lead to the Dark Side, but the fear of LOSS does. Once you realize that even those who die before you are not really "gone" but have rejoined the force, then you can never be afraid of loss again, and the Dark Side will never threaten you.

Think of it like this: The Dark Side is like an amplifier of your deepest desires and passions. It operates like a hard liquor, in that it helps release your inhibitions, and you'll do whatever you can do in order to obtain those desires. For some people, it's insanely easy to fall into the dark side, like Anakin, if you press on his seeming helplessness to save those he cares about. Or even use Windu's passion for the Jedi to push him beyond reasonable action and to go for something a Sith would do. For others, their sense of justice refuses to allow them to move. Obi-wan, as dogmatic as I could find him, has this character that keeps him tethered to the Light. However, I think only Qui-Gon and Yoda come closest to truly being Jedi in the sense that they can find balance between the Light and Dark. It isn't as black and white as just declaring one side totally good or totally evil, but it's a complicated factor with many moving parts, all working within the bounds of the Living Force.

Meaning essentially dark side yoda would be the equivalent to a Greek god. All powerful and very whimsical. Could wipe out the entire universe and start anew just because he was bored. Because the ironically the dark side of the force embodies change, death, decay, chaos. Just as Yoda is an avatar of the light, peace, life, serenity, growth, healing, the dark side yoda would embody the very end of the universe itself

The Jedi order would have no future, because this idea would contaminate all Jedi hearts, even if the Siths were physically eliminated, they would still survive as an idea inside the Jedi.

Alternatively, how easy it is then to obtain those very same goals from the other side of the spectrum. Or rather, to accept some things as the law of the force, that everything must come to an end eventually. By going to the Dark side for Dooku, Yoda showed he was in control of his dark side ENTIRELY. That is what really make Dooku afraid. Not what he could become, not that he was more powerful than Sidius either, i think. Contrairy to all others he knew, Dooku could see the dark side incarnated but CONTROLED by Yoda. ''Give me my Rose...'' was the proof the good side was still there...and in total control. And mastering one's own dark side, is supreme mastery. Dooku doesn't controled his own dark side; power and supreme wisdom is what he wants...and because he wants it, the Sith use him... He knows that. That is the reason he deleted the archives... because he wants to prove to Yoda and all the Jedi HE WAS RIGHT to fray toward and even with, the dark side... As he believe knowledge of the dark side hide the ultimate secret; the weakeness of the dark side...what could kill Sidious and give Dooku ""total power"".
The truth is, Sidious is the Dark Side incarnated. Dooku wants the secrets and he is ready to do Sidious biding to achieve that goal...making himself evil (but never totally) but he is not fool enough to give DAgobah to Sidious either...Dagobah might be the last place to hide if his plan fail... it is a safe gate for him... And forcing a fight between Sidious and Yoda might give Dooku a chance to strike the deadly blow...and get rid of Sidious once and for all. Dooku is an idealist who believe he has the best plan to achieve victory against Sidious...But his true purpose must stay secret... In private, Dooku wants to take down Sidius. But time is running against him and Sidius knows Skywalker is coming to his side...he will soon gain Skywalker and get rid of Dooku half devotion...for someone more naive, young and even more powerful. That is why he said to Obi-Wan ''You should have join me Obi-Wan, i told you everything you needed to know...''

Yoda, being 900 years old, witnessed a lot of things, probably tried things beyond the comprehension of light and dark side users. Just imagine if he totally let go of that thread that's been keeping him in control of his mind and power.

The rose thing is even more interesting. It really reminds me of zen masters who use such technique to disrupt the way of their opponents thinking. Rose is right out of the scheme that Dooku suggests since it cannot be truly estimated. Values, on the other hand, not only are estimated, but can be owned. Riches or knowledge are no different - you have some, you desire more, and thus you fall in an illusion.

    • @zakosist

Dont know but I see it more like he is actually NOT fully immune to corruption (even if their species may be naturally inclined to the light side), and thats why he cant simply use it as a tool for his goal "whenever he wants". He may tap in and out when its only a few seconds. But if he were to start using it for prolonged time it could start to gradually corrupt maybe without even realizing, not be something you can just instantly tap out of anymore, and eventually taking things way too far to reach ones goals, just like real life extremists. The darkside could maybe be (vaguely) compared to a drug, that you can get addicted to, but are unlikely to catch addiction if you only touched it once. Once you start using it over time that addiction becomes way more likely and stronger

This awesome story really made me think a lot, and especially reminded me of an interesting and somewhat similar plot in one of my favorite novel series.
The protagonist of this plot is a loyal, lovely werewolf girl with an open-minded attitude towards life. Well, she is actually an ancient warrior who was reincarnated into a husky by mistake. This is an interesting plot point, and plays a key role in the plot.
    --
During an investigation into a planet hidden in a subspace bubble, she was attacked by a demon skilled in psychic attacks. Since this was a sudden attack, she was subdued before she could react.
The way this demon confuses people is by pulling them into dreams, and then manipulating their thoughts (similar to Inception).
The initial dream brought her back to her own home, which was actually her captain's home, and tried to frighten her with the liminal space of "the familiar home was empty, the captain, teammates and friends were not there." .
However, she is a sweet husky and she trusts her friends. So, she didn't think much about "why everyone is not home" and immediately ran to the refrigerator. To her delight, there was a bowl of braised pork in the refrigerator.
Her favorite joke with the captain's wife was to eat braised pork on the sly instead of waiting until the meal was officially served. And now, she was happily ready to feast.
Perhaps irritated by her complacent attitude and the progress that did not meet expectations, the demon made its biggest mistake ever - of course it may also be that it knew that the biggest weakness of its illusion was its inability to simulate what actually existed. .
(You can think of it this way: if she tried to eat the bowl of stew, it would be revealed that it was an illusion (no taste or even texture). The common flaw of many similar illusion scams is the same as Master Yoda's request for Count Dooku. Same: first create an actual, very simple thing to prove that you really have the ability to fulfill any wish. Of course, you can’t. There is everything in the illusion, but there is no real thing.)
So, in the blink of an eye, she was thrown into nothingness.
The husky girl scratched her face: "...Where is my food?"
No one answered her questions until a treasure house full of countless treasures appeared in front of her. In one vision after another, she saw herself walking into the treasure house, taking possession of the infinite treasure, becoming the richest person in the world, and living in a palace made of gold.
A voice whispered in her ear: [This is a real treasure, my inheritor, you have won my favor, you are qualified to get this ancient inheritance, come with me, I will tell you how to open this... …]
"Did you take my food away?"
The husky girl interrupted it without hesitation.
[...That is nothing compared to the treasure you are about to unlock...]
The husky girl grabbed the conversation again: "Don't interrupt, I'm asking you where is my food?"
    [...You have to open a...]
The husky girl interrupted ruthlessly: "Did you take away my food?"
The illusion of the treasure house suddenly collapsed, and the gold and jewels returned to the swirling fog in an instant. Then, something new emerged from the mist, and she saw a throne high above. She was wearing a golden robe, a golden crown on her head, and holding the emperor's scepter in her hand. Countless heroes, ministers and generals will kneel at her feet.
The voice sounded again: [Supreme Power! You will become the highest ruler in this world, and your throne will be bigger than...]
    "So where's my stew?"
[...I mean you will become the emperor...]
“Where the hell is my stew!”
The throne collapsed and was replaced by a glorious battlefield. The tone of the voice was already a bit hysterical: [Power! Unlimited power! You will be invincible! The whole world cannot compare with...]
"I still want my stew. Do you know how rare it is to get the chance to eat it secretly when the landlady is not at home?"
[Immortality! I can make you immortal! ]
    "I still want the stew."
[Knowledge! All the knowledge in this world! I have knowledge you cannot imagine! ]
"I've graduated from Peking University four times, why are you asking me to take the exam again - I want stew!"
[Past, future, present! I will give you the power to predict the future, I will let you modify your destiny at will, I will let you...]
"Just blow it, quantum collapse determines that fate is non-repeatable and inoperable. Where did you hide my stew?"
[God’s authority! You can even become a god! ]
"I know God, and she didn't get the year-end bonus this year - can you let me finish the stew first and then we can discuss it?"
(The gods in this novel are the ultimate forerunner civilization that has progressed to the highest level of achievement. They bear the responsibility of maintaining the order of the multiverse and guarding the prosperity and progress of civilized races. They are a group of humane and materialistic all-benevolent gods.)
    …………
This meaningless conversation continued for a while, and finally there was complete silence in the emptiness and chaos. The mysterious voice seemed to accumulate in the silence, and finally broke out completely. She heard a thunderous voice coming from her head:
[That's enough! You stupid ignorant mortal! I will tear your soul directly to pieces! ]
The devil finally revealed his true form, a Cthulhu-type indescribable monster in short. In fact, this demon has no physical attack power, it still wants to use mental attacks to take her body.
The husky girl immediately thought that she needed a self-defense weapon. With a clear mind that transcended the limits of the illusion, she took out a brick and introduced it to the demon's face.
In the subsequent plot, when she told her temporary companions how to deal with the demon's dream attack, the demon roared and cursed her for "having no idea what she was dealing with."
“Cut the crap or make that bowl of stew a real thing.”
The demon screamed and then stopped talking.
"As expected, you can't. Who were you fooling?"

Mace didn't weird the dark, he used the dark of others against them. He didn't touch the dark, but he used it, he didn't produce the dark within him, he let then do it, and then when it came forth he'd catch it and throw his own power and their power back.
When he scarred Palpatine, it was Palpatines own force lightning bouncing back and forth between them, never touching mace , but left in a circuit always slamming into who produced it. Palpatine was a conductor of the dark, mace a neutral, so the dark would always seek the one who could channel it over and over. A darkside user can be attacked with the dark, but mace using VA pad was immune to it. I often wonder how long that circuit would have kept bouncing back on Palpatine if mace wasn't interrupted.

If Yoda had the discipline to fully rage out on the dark side for the sake of a goal, as in destroying Palpatine before any bad things happened would be ok. From my understanding of SWS it seems the dark side "rage out" is best used as a "finisher" move. If Yoda would have wielded that much power I don't see why he would not use it to get rid of Palps before anything happened. The only thing I can think of is if Yoda knows he would not be able to withstand further temptation of it.

To build on your note of: Yoda could have possible stopped order 66, Sidious and saved his Jedi family if he had tapped into the dark side, but at what cost? Interestingly, I wonder if we could go another level deeper to the selflessness of the Jedi and specifically of Yoda. At what cost, you ask? Perhaps sacrificing yourself to the dark side would have been the ultimate cost to save the order and stop the empire before it even began. Like taking a bullet, so to speak. Perhaps Yoda could have weighed the potential benefits of losing himself, to save others. But as I write this I'm realizing that was Anakin's dilemma that ultimately turned him to the dark, paying the ultimate cost and not succeeding in saving anyone. Inevitably causing far more harm to the ones he loved. Interesting thoughts, these are.

I think the difference is that, Yoda had *already* done what Dooku was asking. He had embraced his dark side.
The other Jedi lived in fear of it, so they were basically suppressing a half of themselves. Dooku tried and failed, because ultimately his pride and ego overcome his compassion and humility.
But Yoda had done precisely what the Jedi are meant to: to bring balance to the force, not worship the light side or be consumed by the dark side. He had already made peace with his desires, his emotions and his fears. He had already united both sides of the force within himself. He did not need to 'use' the dark side because he'd already embraced it. Not fully, of course, but he would do that later on, after Ep III events
