      @wesmcdaniel8686 Před 5 lety +2

      With the Dragonfly 2020 - it is not. I work at a PCB manufacturing plant and this obsoletes the entire manufacturing plant. The critical part is the size of the traces and spaces they can accurately print. Also...laser and iron work is very energy demanding, which means expensive. Some of these designs are too small though. Not all circuit boards are small. Many cannot be built on this small of a device.

  • @struki84
    @struki84 Před 3 lety +4

    In general all these machines are really cool, but until they cost $200 - $400 like some of the really great 3d printers out there, you can forget any significant sales or chunk of the market. The reason why 3d printing is popular is because you can buy a 3d printer for a price of a microwave, blender or a fridge. It's a manufacturing machine reduced to a price of a house appliance, otherwise the only parties interested in these machines are so called SME business, and very specific ones. So I'm glad we're going there, but all of these machines are where 3d printers were a decade ago. Which is kind of funny since CNCs have been around much longer than 3d printers.

    • @dsedswe
      @dsedswe Před 10 měsíci

      spot on, its a restriction of technology just like with 3d printers and it's going to end up the same way, if we want it we will have to build it and release it

  • @lucadaidone9550

    The strongest point they make is "you can print PCBs on your own and not waste time if you make mistakes" but yet you can print only 2 sided boards (apart from the first one, but that's an industrial machine so it shouldn't belong here). With only 2 layers I would say it's quite easy to check your design several times and make sure its not flawed...and send it to production and having it 1 week later for CHEAP. These machines are SO expensive that I wouldn't see myself buyng one for my job, let alone for myself. Unfortunately this is a very small market and I guess research and production for such machines requires a lot of money...I hope in the future we'll see better and cheaper devices.

Why would we need toys PCBs when we have the real thing made in 24hours with 0.25mm drill and 5mil traces with the most basic 2 layer ones?

      @@joemama7752 Nope. These would all *SUCK* for commercial use. conductive ink? seriously. The impedance and connection reliability of this will be terrible. Milled boards? Your track space, track width and minimum drill size is all going to be terrible. Drill bits in these things won't give you more than a few dozen holes. You got BGAs in your design? good luck with that. No commercial company is going to use these things. The capabilities of the PCB fab houses in china just simply blows these away. ENIG finishes, electrical testing, silk screening, laser drilled holes, PCB assembly... the list of additional features you get from the fab houses is simply overwhelming. And for the cost of these machines I can literally buy hundreds of boards (assembled) from the fab houses. Oh, but I don't get my design the same day. Waaaah... I get it in 7 days. Big deal.

    None of these will replace the overseas manufacturers. The printed inked ones aren't going to stand up to abuse nor will they provide acceptable impedance characteristics for anything other than super simple led type hobby projects. The milled ones aren't going to get you plated through holes and they aren't going to get you decent size drills down below about 30mils. Also not going to get reliable 5mil track spacing or clearance. Good luck with your BGAs or 0.5mm pitch components. All that can be easily had with a suite of additional features in about 7 days for super cheap cost from a variety of chinese pcb makers. Nice ideas but we're a long way off still.
