Leaving edges out can help to add more wow to your painting. Lost edges give your subjects depth so that they look less "flat" against the paper.

Lost edges are magic! I learned this technique from you on Patreon and I'm eternally grateful. I'm at the point now where I don't want to do a painting without them; always looking for places to put them in. Thank you Louise! By the way, I think Leo wants his own channel.

Thanks Louise for this video about lost edges! Since the beginning of 2023 I used this technique to get a feeling of overexposure from the sun over the subject of my watercolour painting and now I know this technique could be useful for another effect. Have a good day from Canarias islands 🏝

I like the effect that the burnt sienna in the grey separates a little at the edges adding a touch of color that harmonizes with the orange elsewhere. Great video!

Thanks Louise. I love the tip to leave a gap in the drawing where you want to create lost edges.

This is a paradigm shift for my sense and crave for perfection: understanding that an imperfect outline is perfect! Just wow!

Thanks for the great tutorial, Louise! Have you (or anyone reading this comment) tried experimenting with lost edges in portraits? How did it impact the overall feel of the painting?

I miss your old style of videos Louise. The ones where you would talk about things like Lost Edges while completing the entire painting.

Very important topic and information, but my first impression of the Thumbnail was "Why is the head of the Goose exploding?" - Sorry, but it looked like blood to me... In close it looks good, but that was my first thought. That's not ment as a critique or so, definitely not.

Same... but as we got close to the painting it was beautiful. Definitely something to consider though. We need to remember to step back and give it a good look.
