    In a nice change of pace, ShreddedNerd takes a visit to the world of Minecraft, to discuss it's enduring and intense popularity, and makes a primitive attempt to understand why.
    The study: natronbaxter.com/wp-content/u...
    This study was not the origin of many of the concepts, but it examines the importance of needs specifically as it relates to games.

    I haven't played minecraft in years. As a kid I loved making my own houses in Creative mode. My style of making buildings was make it look like the nether, and so I did. Nether blocks, lava, and iron fences (I honestly can't remember what they were called now) were my primary materials. I can still remember that first house I made where it was set in a snowy mountain with tall stairs eventually getting up to the house where you see a lave pit that continues down below into a lava fountain. I can remember where I played on a map with really tall geometry and just started making small catwalks that connected areas like it was Hang Em' High, and every time my sister had a different style, with her using richer materials like Quartz and gold to make a 5 million dollar mansion right next to my hellhouse. I started to even create lore for my guy which was influenced by that Tell Tale games Minecraft game with some more influence coming from Greek Mythology as my guy was known as "The Diamond Knight of Asguard", known for taking down some of the biggest threats of the nine worlds.
    Edit: I was wrong about Greek mythology, It was actually Norse mythology that I was inspired by.

    another really important aspect that I think is important to point out that most other games don't have (fortnite and roblox are attempts in that direction) is that minecraft is the closest thing we have to a real metaverse, if anything, that shows how incredibly successful a real metaverse could be

    Minecraft certainly is the closest thing to the perfect game in my eyes. Been playing since 2009 and it's the only game I have played for that length of time and still keep regularly going back.
    It has issues... And as much as I really hate those issues, compared to other games they are barely anything. And honestly one of the greatest things Minecraft does is allow you to go back to old versions for people like me who aren't the biggest fan of the direction the game has gone, something I wish more games did...

Not only satisfying the lower rungs of the hierarchy of needs in survival but also the highest ones. Look at those teams that build incredible mega-cities and structures & entire communities in servers. They're self-actualizing hard asf.

  • @tachtra994
    @tachtra994 Před 10 měsíci

    To be honest, if you look at the smaller details of the game, instead of the overarching game concepts, Minecraft isnt really that fun. It has weak combat, boring worldgen, and the survival element of the survival mode is not as fleshed out as it should be.
    Minecraft used to be a pure sandbox game, but nowadays, it feels like it wants to commit to both sandbox and rpg/survival, but it does so poorly. Personally, Sandbox and Survival/RPG are where my primary interests lie, and I feel very unsatisfied with Minecraft. I have to install a lot of mods to feel enjoyment playing the game, and due to minecrafts pretty inefficient coding, that causes quite a lot of performance issues, while I have kind of a monster of a setup.
    Recently, Mojang have screwed up massively in many aspects, and I kinda hope for Hytale, a game made by devs of a popular minecraft server (and obvs others), to either replace minecraft, or finally get minecrafts devs to get up their asses and develop a coherent game.
