    Stumbled on this channel. And it was like describing every recent MacBook Pro disaster I've had over the last 5 years! I felt your pain and bravery. The two disk partitions separate code from data. Sometimes repairing just the os works. Other situations you have to nuke it to its birthday suit and rebuild it completely. Most of the time the complete refurbishing will yield a working system (until it happens again on some other edge). I typically keep a cloud, local time machine, and a carbon copy clone before I tear down. With that redundancy you can find an easy path to restore to last good state (or you hope it was a good state). A lot of time if I debug deeply I find something plugged into the Thunderbolt ports is failing and bringing everyone down. Good video

    If you still don’t have it fixed, you did say yourself: It is part of the EFI, which the Mac will have to undergo a clean installation. You’ll have to get the installer from a different Mac to ensure that the issue doesn’t persist. Hope this helps.

  • @evancrazyerror
    @evancrazyerror Před 3 lety +3

    If this issue re-appears, it’s most likely a symptom of when you installed Big Sur back in July. Big Sur (for some completely random reason) rewrites stuff the BIOS when upgrading to it for the first time. This has caused many black screen issues on Retina MBPs and even sleep issues on newer MBPs. I’m assuming this issue started after you upgraded to Big Sur. I would advice caution before upgrading to it, you might want to wait a little longer than you usually would.

    I'm surprised my 2012 i7 Retina MBP hasn't developed a problem like this. Battery is worn out and only lasts a couple of hours, screen has some stuck pixels, and there's a big crack in the trackpad that doesn't actually affect functionality.
    But it still works, and it works well. Replaced the WiFi with an 802.11ac card and it runs Big Sur as well as any supported model.

    It's the hard drive... probably you changed it for a NVME with the special interface. Just disable deep sleep (I think it called), and you will be fine, however when the computer is suspended will drain battery faster. Another approach is to replace the hard drive with one of the expensive that apple use (OWC sells those). The problem resides in the lack of support for NVME drives in the EFI, more modern macs don't have this problem, just the old ones. My MBAir 2014 13" have the same issue. I just turn off the deepsleep.

    I was having this issue in a 16 inch MacBook pro with 1TB SSD and 16GB of ram. I had multiple genius bar appointments where they wiped the computer and said they couldn't recreate the issue. It kept happening at home and finally, on the third appointment it happened in front of the tech/genius bar rep at the apple store and that's when they said we can do 1 of 2 things. Since I had AppleCare on the MBP at the time and they made me go through 3 separate appointments for this one issue the Genius Bar manager/supervisor/lead gave me 2 options. Option 1 was to do an exception return and return it for my full money back, $2800 plus the tax(they didn't let me return the AppleCare), and option 2 was to swap it for a brand new 16-inch MBP. I took my money back and I'm so glad I did. I just used $1750 of it to purchase a MBA with the M1 chip with 8 core GPU, 16GB of ram, and a 1 TB SSD and Apple care.

    I just remember my iMac doing the same thing back when I had it. And if I recall correctly, my (U)EFI was partly corrupted, which led to random crashes and reboots on certain occasions, like powering down. I didn't get it fixed, since it was too expensive and was always way too scared to fix it myself with the freaking suction cups you need to pull the screen off. Not mentioning I have no idea how to actually fix the issue even then.

    Wasn't the issue the soft-sleep? where it would wake up and check things intermittently and that wake/sleep cycle caused the issues?

    6:25 if I remember right from my painful dropbox past the limit automatically for upload was a default setting for dropbox as most people have absolutely no upload as ISPs think symmetrical is a phone term.
    Oh yes the date and time error bug here's an error code that means absolutely nothing that even our phone support don't know what it means.

    That could actually be a overheating issue, try changing the cooling paste and clean out all the dust, if everything else fails, try a nother drive, if that fails remove all ram sticks except one and try again, if it fails, try the next stick and try again.
