- 5 Times African Countries Were Robbed At The FIFA World Cup
African countries not going far at the World Cup is actually due to a combination of many factors. We already did a video talking about some of those factors, but here’s one factor which needed a separate video. African countries are actually robbed quite too often at the World Cup.
You don’t believe that? Come along as we look at 5 times African countries were robbed at the FIFA World Cup.

2022 - Ghana vs. Portugal. That penalty against Ghana was day light robbery.
Just like the first portugal's goal being disallowed in the same match
Lmao, that must be a joke ....
No one will ever mention it when the decisions go in Portugal's favour. No one mentions how badly Ireland were robbed in both games against Portugal in the qualifiers
@@Jaminho397 Nah, its literally the other way ...
@@tcphoenix11 Ireland having a fair goal disallowed in the second match just because FIFA refuse to let Ireland beat Portugal. If Portugal are getting hard done by the refs then Ireland are getting done even worse. We've been robbed in almost every game since the Henry handball. Both those Portugal games were absolutely horrendous refereeing. If you watched either of them, or the Switzerland vs Ireland match in 2019 you would know that was arguably the worst refereeing of all time. And against Slovakia our player gets punched in the head and it's a free kick for them. Honestly it was more Ireland getting done over than Portugal getting good decisions was my point
Morocco vs Spain 2018 : a lot of penalties not given (the referee refuse to go to the var even though it was clear)+ the corner which resulted in the second goal was done from the wrong corner.
Morocco vs Portugal 2018 : Ronaldo's goal was illegal, Pepe made the defender next to Ronaldo fall.
But luckily Morocco got its revenge in 2022
morocco was playing withont refs in ther favor even in this wc
@@ahmedrayane7204the refs are always european so morocco doesn’t have too many chances to win. it’s even being debated whether the ref for mVf cheating
The 2010 Suarez hand ball messed Ghana up, no lie
But who missed the penalty mata
Gyan
Miss penalty
Ghana didn’t get penalty. That is why they are blaming Uruguay because they were not punished for that handball.
@@jimreevezhaiveio8293 they did get a penalty bro what are you smoking
But Ghana 2010 was not a robbery
- Penalty was awarded
- Red card was awarded
- Penalty missed
Suarez had to do what he had to do and luckily for him it worked, it was an upset but not a robbery
Suarez was fueled by racism and hatred to do that. He could have used his head. But he used not one but two hands
@@carlin_ani_agyei nah, he was in panic n had to make a decision in such a moment real fast so he used his hands. i’d do the same tbh
@@vinsmokesnafu so your promoting cheating and unsportsmanship
@@carlin_ani_agyei it’s not cheating, he used his hands to save his team n the referee gave him a red card n gave ghana a penalty, which ghana missed so it isn’t his fault lmao. also, the handball came from a freekick that was a dive by the ghana player
@@carlin_ani_agyei ah yes rasism after the game suarez acctually sang erika and did hitler greetings🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
The free kick that led to the Suarez hand ball was won off a simulated foul from Ghana. FIFA, the African confed. and Ghana were actually trying to rob Uruguay that day because they wanted the last African nation to progress through that tournament. That's why they don't show and will never show the replay of the foul that led to that. Because they know they tried to rig it against Uruguay.
nice conspiracy theory bro
you're right, that's why all of them are put in jail on 2015!!!
Such injustices except the Ghana 🇬🇭 one.
Really?
By missing a kick
@@kingsleyselorm really, Suárez got red card and Ghana got a penalty kick, what do you want? A gifted goal?
@@manuelfiguera984 I get your point
Who else think 2022 Cameroon should be in here. They conceded only 1 goal to Switzerland from a player who was originally from Cameroon. Then they drew Serbia and then went on to beat Brazil
I honestly feel like them losing to Switzerland the way they did and then getting grouped because of that is somewhat of a rob for them.
robbed algeria in qualification
morocco were robbed in semis, two clear penalties uncalled
I dislike Suarez. However, he sacrificed himself out of the game to give his team a chance to survive, and they did. To this day i still believe people who think Ghana was robbed and misunderstanding the rules. There was NO robbery, all rules were effectively followed.
Exactly. He broke the rules and got punished properly for it. Not being able to convert the penalty was not his fault..
I don't support cause am African
Ghana where robbed
@@clarion5058 Ghana lost again on Qatar!
one chance for morroco to make history on the 10th vs (likely) portugal

Morocco against France 2022... penalty against Boufal
The 2018 Nigerian own was so painful. The ref went to the pitch monitor and came back and still didn't award the penalty. That was the first time in that world cup that such a thing happened.
Although Nigerians blame Ighalo for not scoring what would have been the easiest of goals. All we needed was a draw. A draw!
Africa forever 🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
The jamaican flag💀
That's a Jamaican flag bro
Well there's no specific flag for Africa🤷🏻♂️
Morocco qualified for the quarter finals🤩
Almost all good African players playing for European countries is bigger than anything else
The penalty decision was such a curse for African teams:
1.England vs Cameroon in 1990 quarterfinal (Gary Lineker).
2.Nigeria vs Italy in 1994 knockout round (Roberto Baggio).
3.Portugal vs Ghana in 2022 group game (Cristiano Ronaldo).
We also mentioned the Uruguay vs Ghana in 2010. Even though Ghana had a penalty after Luis Suarez's Hand of God, they were still cursed because of Asamoah Gyan's miss and subsequent penalty shootout loss.
Also, the 1982 Gijon scandal was repeated again 16 years after. It's not involving an African team, but the Indonesian football. During the AFF Cup, an Indonesian player unintentionally scored an own goal against Thailand in order to lose the game and faced relatively underdogs Singapore instead of the host Vietnam. Unfortunately, Singapore defied all odds and then won the tournament by defeating Vietnam.
man morocco just beat spain in penalties
@@usayts1608 They played negatively for the game vs Spain and Portugal.
@@ezraezra2928 what i mean morocco is an african contry and what he did by qualifing for the semi finals was like an end for a curse for the africans team
@@usayts1608 To be honest, Morocco is the only second team after South Korea in 2002 outside Europe and America to reach the semifinal. With this feat, every World Cups, either senior or youth (both U-20 and U-17), have at least one team from 5 major continents reaching the semifinal.
Cameroon 1990 was pure robbery.
Algeria 82 Cameroon in 82 as well as goal wrongly disallowed they went out to Italy on fewer goals scored and Italy went to win world cup.
94 Nigeria were 2 mins away for reaching quarters.
Ivory Coast after group of deaths get easy draw 2014 and still throw it away by last min penalty.
1998 morocco to. Brazil and norway did it
This list made me think of Australia in 2006 vs Italy when Fabio Grosso took an insane dive in the box to knock the socceroos out of the world cup.
Does anyone remember how in the game against Poland, in the last ten minutes, Japan tanked and started playing around in their own half so they would not receive any more yellows and still advance on fair play?
It's an insult to call Algeria an arab nation. Algeria and Morocco, have 2 official languages Amazigh and Arabic. it's as if you call Canada a french nation ...
Was it really Suarez fault then Gyan missed the penalty?
Absolutely ,there is no question about that even if it would not be that this time win over African is all about luck and may be more confidence but not skills and best strikers for they have the best as far as this is concerned
morocco-2022 weren’t awarded 2 penalties against france in the semi-finals
None of these except Suarez and the disgrace are instances of them getting robbed. Thats just the game.
Nop! Even at this world cup ! The favourites are allowed to take advantage!! I saw so many fouls committed by the European teams against African and asian teams but non were given, at the same time non contact dives been awarded to Europeans and South American teams ! It's a disgrace 🗿
Against Nigeria we all saw that that was an handball
@@Rohin98 I mean Japan literally advanced on an illegal goal. If there was such a bias wouldn't they have been much more strict with them?
How is that, them getting robbed?
Suarez got a red and ghana got a pen.
Do you want the ref to take the ball and throw it into the urguay goal and say. Ghana Wins??
Please explain how Ghana got robbed.
Nope the first one with Germany and Austria is a conscious effort to prevent Algeria from advancing. Not ''just the game''
I think that hand ball in 2010 shock a Ghana side that was playing their heart out to score a goal before penalties I qas at home and was shell
Morocco 1998
This is very heartbreaking 😏
Shut up
Suarez Hand Ball wasn't cheating for many reasons: First of all, the penalty was given, kicked and missed by Assamoah Gyan, SO IT WAS ALL REGLAMENTARY, a hand or a foul on the area is a penalty but is not an automatic goal(read the Rules people)So Suarez's Handball wasn't at all as other Hand Balls that were never sanctioned and even used to score Goals like Henry's Hand against Ireland or Maradona's handball against England in 1986.
Second point, the same situation happened many other times: in 1978 argentinian stricker Mario Kempes did the same against Polland, the penalty was given and missed, with the difference that in that time there was no red card for doing that so Kempes kept playing and even scored the winning goal for Argentina. Also in 1990 a spanish defender put his hand to avoid an inminent goal from Uruguay, the penalty was given and missed by uruguayan star Ruben Sosa and all the country blamed him, no one accused the spanish of robbery, even when the spanish defender kept playing and there wasn't Red Card for him...ONLY SUAREZ SAW RED CARD, so is time for Ghana to stop crying for a usual situation of the game, don't be so naive, Suarez is not a master mind mustached villan who knew that by putting his hand Gyan would certanly miss the kick, he just had that logic reaction of any player to avoid the defeat of his country....be honest with yourselves
1990 Cameroon = the two Lineker penalties
Egypt 2022 qualification match there were lazers pointed at the egyptians and the stadium gave the lazers to senegal fans
What
@@ThecasualSydneyFCsupporter yea its true i watched it
All Ghana had to do was convert that penalty.
I wonder about the major African comeback in FIFA 2026
Ghana, Algeria, Egypt, Senegal, Morcco, Nigeria, Cameroon
an abundance of African countries would get the chance to at least make it to semifinals
.. unless we stop getting matched up in the group stage with kings.
Song name?
What about Portugal vs Ghana 2022? Robbed penalty and an offside goal🤬🤬
japan one wasnt robbery, just a tie breaker, and Ghana's game in 2010 wasnt robbery either. Red card and penalty given, Ghana just missed and were mentally shaken in the penalties. Now austria and west germany one yeah, but again it was the game that changed the system so that one had to play all games of the same group at the same time in final time so that games like that would not happen. It wasnt pre-arrenged per se just that both teams knew what result was good for them and once Germany scored neither were interested in rocking the boat just to give algeria the chance.
Suárez didnt rob Ghana. If I was in his position I would have done the same.
Ofc the play was illegal, and Lucho got sent off for it and a penalty was awarded. It was Gyan that messed it up. I'd rather take a 50/50 and get sent off than a goal against.
1:44 those coulors tho 💀
I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to describe Ghana vs. Uruguay 2010 as a “robbery”. Luis Suárez shamelessly cheated to cancel what was about to become the winning goal for Ghana (in all probability). Sure sounds like a robbery to me.
1990 Cameroon was a big robbery they should have go through the quarter but laniker dived
Fifa has made their mind. They don't want Asian or African country to win.
Tunisia vs Spain
Tunisa vs Portugal both 2018.
Ghana vs portuga 2022
Cameroon vs italy 1994
But the Suarez one i don't think it is robbery. Suarez Got punished by red card and penalty is awarded but it Gyan the one misses the reward.
Yes
1994 Nigeria vs Italy
Cameroon vs England 1990
Haiti always get robbed , too. I wonder if Fifa is not racist after all.
the morrocow semi final 2022 like it should have been 2-1 to morrocow
Africa is exporting talent ie football basketball 🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀 etc by Steve Irungu Jermaine
Morocco 1998 when Brazil let them self lose against Norway to not let Morocco qualify from the group stage
We always said hand over goal is a goal. That was a Robery by Suarez in my book
True. The goal should automatically be awarded.
@@chriscreations8853 why? He can do that. It’s an automatic red card and Ghana got a pen. So everything was correct. I would even say it was genius from Suarez
@@chriscreations8853 I think in rare cases where the ball was clearly 100% on trajectory to go into the goal but were blocked by a hand should be awarded. But handballs inside the penalty box normally should still be penalties
That may be what you think, it’s not what the rule is.
And in most people’s opinion shouldn’t be.
@@sporgiii And that was a clear goalkeeper style save by an infield player
now the robbed Morocco they didn't two penalties two fouls in penalty area but given penalty day light robbery fifa wants that cup to be circulated to rich Europeans and south americans countries which are basically Brazil and Argentina
Sounds like a deja vu of 2009 Champions League Final.
UEFA wanted Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to be played in Rome instead of the previous all English Final between Chelsea and Manchester United. Chelsea were so furious that the game against Barcelona at Stamford Bridge was plagued by so many penalty calls. None of them were awarded by the Norway referee. Chelsea players like Ballack and Drogba got pissed off, with Ivorian striker made an infamous rant caught by camera.
Been a lot more than 5
Suarez is the best goalie in the world
Robbed? Ghana in 2010? They missed the pk and played a man up and still couldn’t score. What are you complaining about? You make it seem like Suarez wasn’t red carded and Ghana scored a legit goal that was called back.
How was Ghana robbed vs Uruguay? A penalty shot was given they couldn’t make it. Moreover, they had an extra extra chance in Penalty shootouts and still couldn’t do it. If I was Suarez I would’ve done the same.
That was a robbery even though I’m Uruguayan
ghana vs portugal 2022 cr7 diving in penalty spot and var ignoring
In 2010 I hate Suarez my dad is a Ghanaian and Ghana could have made it to the semi-final
And now...morocco vs France and Morocco vs croatia 😔
Ghana wasn't robbed by Suarez. Basic hand ball, Suarez red carded, deservedly. But they had a chance at goal but missed by a mile....just my thought on it...but the others, seemed like a daylight robbery
IT WAS A ROBBERY CAUSE SUAREZ GOT SCARED THAT A AFRICAN TEAM WOULD PUSH THEM OUT THE WORLD CUP
I don't think Gyan/Ghana was robbed because it was their fault that they missed the penalty
Ghana didn’t get a penalty and Suarez was not punished with a red card. That is why they Uruguay and the referee robbed Ghana.
Of course Ghana was not "robbed" by Suárez or Uruguay, in fact, the ref tried to rob Uruguay.
Suárez hand shouldnt have happened because it came from a NO foul, and There are also a couple of offsides before the hand.
It doesnt belong to this video
Damn I didn’t know Chelsea was in an African country?!
Yes, because they have so many African players like Drogba, Essien, and now Mendy-Koulibaly.
Also, don't forget the Didier Drogba's infamous rant in 2009 CL semifinal. This is the reason
UEFA was disgrace.
Why is it always chilie
Ghana was also robbed in 2022
ALGERIA 2022 have you heard about it
Oh my God
Ghana could of scored the Penalty and moved on yes surez did a unsportsmanlike play but Uruguay had no control over the penalty it’s was Ghana’s fault they missed it
Ghana was robbed, he probably missed because it was the jublani
The fact Suarez to this day refuses to apologize is crazy to mean bro
for what?
@@amelsexy9070 for the 2010 handball against Ghana? Idk if you’re new to the sport but that’s like Suarez’ defining moment, give or take a bite or two.
@@agustinpereira3128 yeah but why would he apologize for that?
@@amelsexy9070 Man I hope you’re like actually asking cause honestly it’s not a bad question (and forgive the long answer)
People will tell you it’s because Ghana was on the brink of becoming the first African team in the World Cup semis, of special importance due to the 2010 wc being the first wc hosted in Africa, and he undoubtedly cheated to give his team a chance over them.
But it’s a bit more than that. See after Suarez batted that goal away with his hand he was sent off crying. I mean, sobbing, the man looked like he’d been shot. And then, a peek over the shoulder, he sees Ghana miss their penalty and all of a sudden the tears are gone, he turned into a little kid giddy with happiness. Think of it as the moral equivalent of diving. Crocodile tears. In the middle of the most African crowd the World Cup had seen yet.
But, as I’m sure you’ll say, plenty of players do whatever they have to do for their country. Should Suarez apologize for what he did? Honest answer is I don’t know, but it’s certainly cost his image outside of Uruguay, and it’d cost him nothing to do so.
@@agustinpereira3128 its a foul not cheating tho
Ghana wasn't robbed but it feels like it. U r either robbed or not. Don't forget, Luis Suarez was sent off n suspended for 2 games. If ur best player can't convert the penalty. And your team lost by penalties, who u want to blame? And all the rules of the game are there for everyone to follow
