Although you could add controversial non--goals. Case in point, England v Germany QF in 2010. Germany ahead 2-1, at 37:42 Lampard took a shot from about 20 yards out, it struck under the crossbar, went in and then bounced out. Everyone saw it on TV, but the linesman did not. If we had VAR then - and we probably could have - then it would have been 2-2 going to the half.

Well, if you see a sphere from top, its definitely going to cover a much larger area than what's at contact with the ground. The point of contact of sphere with a ground is theoretically only a point, realistically its probably a small circular area about the size of a coin. But from top its a circle with the diameter of the sphere. So now I get it why they allowed the goal if they used the top view...
As for karma... Japan got eliminated in penalties soon after in the round of 16.

As for karma, call it whatever you like, but i thought japan got lucky with the goal here and they used all that luck here. They could have used that luck in the penalties.
