ACA Hurricane 130, Milwaukee, WI - Wisconsin Statewide Tornado Drill Siren Test 4/14/11

- Siren starts at 2:12.
ACA Hurricane 130 in Milwaukee, WI sounding a 3 minute alert signal for the Wisconsin Statewide Tornado Awareness Week simulated tornado warning. It is a 130db 8/10 port tornado siren owned and controlled by Milwaukee County. This is among the last few of these beasts still in operation. It sounds healthy, hopefully to be in service for years to come.
The 8/12 siren heard at the beginning is one of Mequon, WI's ACA Cyclone 125's, also being activated for the drill. - Věda a technologie
12 years later, this thing might go soon because the blower is so messed up..
im gonna miss these things.
It's been fixed and the fire chief said that they are not gonna replace it
It’s protected so it won’t get removed or replaced any time soon. However if it ceases operation it will be removed.
Back when the blower worked somewhat normally. Awesome video of it doing 3 minutes!
Nice to hear it do a longer Alert signal. Great video!
Awwwssesseewwqwwwwww
@LouisvilleTorn8o They still make those blowers, they are just a generic roots blower crammed into a box. They are rebuildable also.
Still make the blower motors also. Nothing on the blower end is siren specific except for the housing.
Great video, sounds like it really packs a punch on the wind down.
@Blue10AEMia Thanks, the wind down had that cool echo too because of a nearby building. It was by far my favorite part to hear.
Love hurricanes! Too bad Garland TX replaced theirs. I wish I could've gone to see one. You can hear that epic blower kicking in too!
an ACA tornado siren
The blower no longer works
Normal, Illinois also had two of these before 2004.
@@southwesternpasirens There was one near Parkside Elementary and one on Towanda Ave, behind the Kroger. Both were removed back in 2004.
@@christophercarey3232 do you have the location?
Exellent video of that Hurricane. I'm glad it still works. Sounds really nice.
@Blue10AEMia Thanks, the wind down had that cool echo too because of a nearby building. It was by far my favorite part to hear.
They only made one Hurricane with valves that could produce the High-Low sound. It's somewhere in South Africa at a Klaxon Dealer
They think sirens activating under cloudy conditions will scare unintelligent people into thinking it's an actual severe weather warning...coincidentally taking place on the second wednesday of the month at exactly 12 noon. I would change the policy to test anytime except when there is severe weather in in the forecast within 24 hours of the test.
@RamFett May I use this audio for my video?
@OutdoorWarningSirenStudios2 As long as I'm credited, you certainly may. Thanks for asking!
@RamFett Tysm!
You can hear ACA P50 in the ambience!
Cyclone
Oh wow
Great recording! Best Hurricane I've heard!
@crazywarriorman - It is awesome. Yours is almost as yours. . .
you have the square horn
Looks like a Thunderbolt with a round nozzle!
Round nozzle and otherwise completely different design!
OfficialOpinion Not Really. The ACA Hurricane is a complete ripoff of the 4/5 Port Thunderbolt 1000T. You can tell by the Original Square-Horn design of these
@@mnsirens the hurricane is not a ripoff of the 4/5 port thunderbolt but was actually meant to compete with the thunderbolt. (ACA vs. Federal Signal)
samanli2014
@LouisvilleTorn8o I noticed that too, although I am unsure if that's really a bad sign, but the siren seems to maintain power. Still sad to see Hurricanes dropping like flies around the country, being ACA's hometown, I'd hope this example is maintained and kept running for a long time.
RamFett, you haven't recorded anything since April 12, 2019 ( 2 years and 3 months ago ). I'm startin to get worried.
@PGMEagle The statewide tornado drill is the one time Milwaukee County will set off the sirens even if it's cloudy. Normal tests they would not have done so.
@LouisvilleTorn8o That one overlooks Kistler Park. Also, the two Hurricanes are welded in place. A new 2001 placed in La Crescent was found to be free to rotate.
I love the Hurricane sirens! Too bad there are very few of them around.
some people own them
Josh Mckinnley they should make more of these with ASC logo on it
This is the last hurricane standing.
@jjjjentges That one by I-43 is in Mequon, I think it's a little too far away to hear from this location. I tried to record that one for the statewide drill a couple years ago but Mequon didn't set their sirens off for some reason. I'm definitely thinking the one heard in this video would be one of Cedarburg's Cyclones.
Is it just me or does it start rotating funny once it starts winding down? Great video!!
my theory is that the chopper is causing the hurricane to stutter during winddown
That was from the wind stressing the motor.
@HyperFlameGuy That's the town I was thinking of. Isn't the one with the dead blower in a park somewhere?
So theres only 2 ACA hurricanes MKII left? thats crazy compared to the remaining Thunderbolts, 2T22, P-10/15s and Allertors.
@Siren1000T1 It might well be, which is why I recorded it today over something else. Thanks!
I went to Milwaukee with my mom and sister a while back to see these. We never ended up seeing one. Although we DID see a P-50 and we got to ride a ferry :D
Awesome video.
@Blue10AEMia They have a completely different blower setup than the Thunderbolt, with direct drive, except for the later ones, so that's why I thought those blowers were specific to the Hurricane. Earlier Hurricanes have 25 and 30 HP direct drive blower motors
@LouisvilleTorn8o The one you are talking about is a square horned Hurricane in Baxter MN another user on the Airraidsirens website found that one but it got replaced a couple of years ago :(
@LouisvilleTorn8o That one overlooks Kistler Park. Also, the two Hurricanes are welded in place. A new 2001 placed in La Crescent was found to be free to rotate.
Sounds Great! Nice job recording a rare siren, especially the wind down. What time did Wisconsin do their test?. Minnesota did them @ 13:45 and 18:55. The FS 2001 Roundback I went out to record failed.
This siren is STILL HERE!
Hales Corners?
Update...
It's still fucking here
I'm noticing the blower sound gets lower in pitch as the video goes on. Does anyone know why his is/
Geez, talk about being late for the party! That Hurricane was about 2 min. late on "arrival", but still, sweet siren.
@RamFett You should record the Mequon one next! I would love to hear that one!
Meqwoun had hurricanes?
Does it have a blower or not?
Is that the Cyclone at the beginning right next to I-43? Ive seen that one!
0:06 can you hear a P-50 in the background?
@craigery96 Well, since this was for the statewide drill, not a regular test, there was actually a 5 minute window in which municipalities could activate sirens. The Cyclone at the beginning is coming from a different system outside the county, either Mequon or Cedarburg to the north. Milwaukee County set all of theirs off when the mock warning was issued for them.
How far away was it?
I like the long wind down
im curious why wont they test if its cloudy?
@HyperFlameGuy ya, theres more than 1 2001, and theres lots of sirens, one of the hurricanes came out of service over a year ago...
one of those meqon cyclones is now gone.
If you listen closely, you can hear that the blower motor is sick on this one. The blower drops in pitch throughout the test. It's a shame, too, because replacements are extremely hard if not impossible to find.
BTW, there is still an active Hurricane, I believe somewhere in MN, but the blower doesn't work. I can't remember the name of the town.
you should hear this one 12 years later its even worse and that hurricane you were talking about was kistler park, la cresent, mn. its removed now
hurricane 130 IS SO LOUD!!!
That is what I was wondering too.. Unless its just weird resonance or harmonics from other structures.
I hear a P50 start up immediately when the video starts.
Ronnie Bradley That's one of Cedarburg WI's Cyclones. I decided to include it in the video.
Same
Hey i just noticed there that is alot of garbage bins! Cool Hurricane!
@LouisvilleTorn8o La Crescent, MN has two Hurricanes, though sources inform me that one of them has been shut off and the other one's blower is inoperable.
Awesome wind down!
Did Your Freinds Record The Fan?
how did you get that watermark?
I'm surprised they set these off on a cloudy day.
Was that p-50 in the backround
The description says it's an ACA Cyclone 125.
Is that an 8/12 port siren that I hear in the background?
EmeraldLucario ACA cyclone in Cedarburg, WI
RamFett
Really? It sound too close to be in another city.
I really hope that Milwaukee keeps this thing for many years. I'm getting bored of all the 'bolts.
@LouisvilleTorn8o The one you are talking about is a square horned Hurricane in Baxter MN another user on the Airraidsirens website found that one but it got replaced a couple of years ago :(
Is that a cyclone in the background?
@CoolBalla15 It is indeed, thank you!
were are you
@JustInn014 Thanks!
is there ACA Hurricanes in Florida, South Carolina and Maryland
No.
Only were put in states like Texas Wisconsin Michigan and Minnesota
Ruined two Hurricanes? There were two in Milwaukee, WI, One is on a pallet at the ASC Headquarters, and this one. ASC is preserving the other one, it's in great shape! Glad that ASC is holding on to their history.
I heard a p50 in the background
Sweet wind down!!!
did you hear the p50 at the background?
Yes I did!
2:12 JEEEZZZUSS THAT SCARED ME!!!
@TboltHurricane ???
This siren is actually 10/12 port. The one in Darien is 8/10
both are 8/10 XD
No, this one is 8/10 too. There are no 10/12 hurricanes confirmed to exist as of now.
The square horn ones are 10/12 I think.
somebody has a square horned hurrican, but its 8/10
Greenfield1003 no.. All hurricanes were 8/10..
I hear a cyclone in the beginning
@crazywarriorman Thank you!
ACA P-50 in the backround at 5 secs?
Michael Link
Actually it's a Cyclone, which is an omi-directional, 125 decibel version of the P-50 (where as the P-50 rotates and is 135 decibels). If you listen closely, you don't really hear the sound go up and down in volume, so that's the only way you can tell if it's one or the other without looking at it.
@timeslip325 Thank you! I wanted it to be better than my first video, I think I managed that.

2. I don't think you know this, but before 2013, threads did NOT exist. It was just as seen. Your name, @ing them, and right under the comment it was "in reply to".
I wonder if this is the only existing Hurricane that is actually still in use today. Other then that, great vid.
Siren1000T there's one in Darien, Illinois or at least there was last time I checked
@Siren1000T1 It might well be, which is why I recorded it today over something else. Thanks!
@@ClearToRailfan Darien is gone it got removed and replaced on May 29th 2021
There used to be 2 in better condition than this in La Crescent but both were replaced
This siren has been replaced as of July 2014.
Actually you are wrong. A new video from October 8th has been posted of the siren fixed.
Andy Thompson that was my video...
So Nate J posted false info that was another hurricane
damn those things look gigantic on poles
Tbh it looks bigger from farthur away
@Andy Wehrle K
@LouisvilleTorn8o Only 25, 30 hp came when the Round horn Hurricane came out

I'm from South Africa! Maybe I can try to locate it!
It was located on 1394 easton RD but it’s gone now.
it looks like a trumpet
@videogamer24385 Read the description.
The blower loses speed throughout the video.
You can hear it wavering like mad at 5:00 onwards.
This siren's blower no longer works.
