- 1985 Honda TRX250, Amazing new carburetor doesn't fit, bought a TRX250X carb, it has a 42mm bore, the TRX250 needs a 40mm carb, the 42mm carb will also fit the 300EX, prefer the 42mm carb, I like the fuel pump, also like the butter fly choke, Harvey Spooner, 1_11_2018,
Hi Wondering if you were able to make it work? i just bought a 1986 TRX250 in 2024 as i got it for a good price, but the carburetor needs to be replaced. Would you recommend me buying the reconstruction kit or replacing the whole new carburetor? I'm wondering if I should do as you did buying the TRX250X?
Check the CDI box.& test the stator for voltage output.
Need some help. Just did a carb clean on the same year and model. Put everything back on and my choke is basically working backwards .... when I have the button to closed position its open when I put it to the open position seems like it's closed? Any idea on if I did anything wrong?
Id use a dremall and take the 2mm off the carb. I dont think too much of useing chinese over OEM but id like to know if the that one with the acealerator pump works better
Test continuity with millimeter.,or A fluke tool.,or All in one voltage.& etc. Hand stick tester from harbor freight.,or off internet ordering it has A different name for it though to. Like possibly A fluke tester with led lighting display for indicators.
What is the link to the videos on the new carb you put on this? I tryed looking on your page and could not find it.
Little sand paper emry cloth sand little off both pieces
I would be of the opinion to check the other inlet manifold on the spare engine, if the carb fits and the bolt holes line up your on to a winner. If it starts and runs ok, happy days.
Hey Wizard, U will see the 250X manifold salvage and install videos over the next few days, I already ordered a spare to put on the parts engine..... I look forward into seeing this engine run on an upgraded carb.... Thanks for Ur suggestions, encouragement, watching, and commenting!!!
Looks like the same one I bought for my Big red I had trouble getting mine on for sure but I finally got it runs perfect last two months.good vedio
Hey Nathan, I love this carb and I would like to upgrade all my 250 ATVs, the $100 price tag is slowing me down a bit.... The 250X intake manifold made a big difference for getting it to go on.... Thanks for the info, Ur thoughts, watching, and commenting!!!!
Hi Harvey glad to see you're still getting out there and getting to enjoy all your toys in the hoard.
Harvey,
I would put a heat gun on the Rubber and a little lube on the carb, if it were hot summer time
you may have put it on without even noticing the difference. 2mm not to bad, 4mm big fight
and if you get it to go, will often split just when you think you won.
GOOD TIMES!!!
I got the one you are calling the "clone" carb. The only issue I have with it is the throttle cable connection is too small for the factory throttle cable. Should I get a throttle cable that fits and replace that while I'm at it?
I don't want to sound like an ass but the Honda clone carb is what they came with the one you bought and the one beside the clone is a 250x one also. If I am wrong please correct me
I think it will fit with some lovin'. I'm having similar trouble with the XR75 project. Your bike has provided many useful parts, but intake manifold is not one. Back to your favorite auction site. I think I have plan. Got a new camera so look forward to a new video tomorrow.
That is gonna make a good ole machine. It'll be on a nice ride around video before we know it! Have a great day!
You know the trx 250 is basically a 250es big red with 4 wheel's this one appears to be in pretty good shape considering it's age.
Hey Nathan!!!! The drive train is the same between the TRX250 and the 250ES.... The TRX250 is built like a truck, one heavy machine, I think they took a pounding better then the 250es, but it all depends on how hard they were romped, what weather they were exposed to, and how well they were cared for....Thanks for Ur thoughts, encouragement, watching, and commenting!!!!
Just need to get the boot heated up a bit not crazy hot enough to make it stretch. Should go right on after that. 2mm should be quite doable in my opinion.
I say apply a light coat of oil to the sealing surface on the carburetor and either get a heat gun or a propane torch and heat up the rubber boot on the bike and then press to two together
Hey Aaron!!!! To be honest, it was no where close to going in, luckily, I had a 250X boot, U should see it running soon.... Thanks for Ur advice, watching, and commenting!!!!
Try switching out the coils from one of your other 4 wheelers/fourwheelers that you've got if they'll work. To see if it sparks then.
Been there done that take a heat gun get the rubber warm slip it on put a little lube on it also
Hey Bikenut, I lub'ed it up pretty good and it just would not seat in that intake manifold, I bought a 250X intake manifold for approximately $10 and it all went right together.... Thanks for the advice, thoughts, watching, and commenting!!!!
Sometimes if you loosen up the clamp a little more you can make it work I've done it before
Are you still getting the business from CZcams? They have stopped bothering me pretty much now. I will be interested to see your solution to the problem.
I'm just guessing, what if you remove the rubber intake and soak it in ethanol gas for a few days, will it grow larger?
Hey James!!! It seems that there is a metal retainer imbedded in the rubber manifold, the carb is not even close to fitting thru that retainer, heat, chemical expansion, or any kind of lubrication will not help, I have a 250X one to try.... Thanks for Ur suggestion, watching, and commenting!!!
If you drop that manifold in boiling water for a few minutes....you might be able to slip that carb on
Hey Harvey, always wondered why you dont take the 20 minutes it takes to clean the original honda carbs. Great vids
Hey Scooter. This one came with a clone carb that I will use elsewhere, I wanted to upgrade and make this TRX250 better.... I didn't want to use a cable choke on it either. The OEM STD carb seems well made, is a little bigger and it has a real accelerator pump.... I kind of put my mind to using it... I will put the 20minutes into the clone carb when I need to use it.... Thanks for asking, watching, and commenting!!!!
I believe the low end will be better with the more narrow oem sizing but extra 2mm should give a nicer mid range top end power and shouldn't take much from the low end.
Got to ask u. Iv got a 1987 trx 70. 50cc there's a black plastic cover that goes over the handlebars it's got a ignition key switch in it I just need the housing would you happen to have one I can bye my 1987 trx 70cc honda . Is near mint missing a few little part mainly that covered
Heat up the plastic intake manifold with a heat gun then it should slide right in. I have done it many times.
So close but so far away .I would Email the light company and tell them the light is no good .
THAT LIGHT WAS A HALOGEN SO IF YOU TOUCHED THE BULB AT ALL IT CAUSES A HOT SPOT AND THE BULB WILL BURN OUT SUPER FAST IM SURE YOU WILL GET ER DONE BUDDY
So close?
grind the boot bigger easy get 2 mm then little silicon and a hose clamp
I would grind the carb smaller if anything. Then you can put your old carb back on it need be
What's the name of the site
Hey Lyric!!! I buy most of my parts thru eBay, Thanks for asking, watching, and commenting!!!
Good video man are u going to sell that because I’ll buy it for $1500.
2 steps forward,5 steps back....
2mm=0.080"....
