    I'm able to use either a pot or a hall sensor with my controller because they both use 5V and output a voltage between 0 and 5V. It depends on how your motor controller works. If it relies on resistance between two points and not a voltage, then the hall might not work.

  • @ThatElectronicsFool

    I built the controller from parts I had around. I'll be doing a video sometime soon on how it's built and how it works since I have so many people interested in it.

    The pot you're using is a logarithmic(audio) taper like the volume control on a stereo. What you want to use is a linear (taper) potentiometer. That will give you a reasonably 'linear' increase in speed.

  • @ThatElectronicsFool
    @ThatElectronicsFool  Před 13 lety

    @patchcords It's not actually a pot, it has what's called a hall sensor in there that uses magnetism to change the voltage output. When you rotate the grip, the magnet moves over the sensor.

  • @ThatElectronicsFool
    @ThatElectronicsFool  Před 11 lety

    I haven't actually measured that so I'm not sure, but I think the motor is rated up to 3000 something RPM at 36V

    If you're talking about the dark grey thing, with all the cables coming off it, that's the motor controller.

    It looks like you've got it set up for speed control, which, at first thought, would be the way you want to do control for a vehicle (like a go-kart). In actuality, a car uses torque-control instead of speed control. If you use PWM to control motor current instead of speed (voltage), you can get much better response when you're driving the vehicle.

    It is PWM. It's not varying the voltage. It's switching the output MOSFETs on and off.

    I built the controller from scratch using a schematic I reverse engineered from a cheap Chinese kids scooter controller. Then I just made the output capable of handling a larger load.

If you purchased the components alone, for one of similar spec , it would cost you more than that. Then you have the hassle of building it, and the inherent risk of damaging individual components. I would not charge you for the motor but you would have to either collect it from my home in west london, or, alternatively, send me the cost of the postage to you. This could be a few pounds as these motors are quite heavy.

      Look on ebay. But first decide which motor you need. You state that you need that motor then you contradict yourself by saying you need something totally different , i.e. a 24 volt motor.
      You can pick up a 24v for about £30 secondhand. But a 36v could cost 3 times that.
      I suggest you look at your old motor, get the make, modrl, serial number, voltage, wattage and amperage, allof which are on the motor body. Then trawl emay for one.
