    Thanks to you. Doc McDougall I turned vegan in Oct 2021. Your video was captivating- talking about rice and potato being good for you! I was already a starchbased vegetarian but thought rice and potatoes made us fat as all Indians think these days.
    Now I know it's the fat and oil that make us fat! Giving up dairy is not easy in India. But I did. And now I run and coach tennis without a care about any damage to heart and leg!
    I am 66 and feel blessed I came to know about the power of a starchbased vegan diet with very little oil.

    Holy shit. Out of my total calories for the day, 50% coming from sweet potatoes, 25% coming from vegetables and greens steamed in a miso bowl, and 25% coming from a combination of fruit and oats, is absolutely killing it.
    I watched Dr. John interview Nathan Pritikin and my ears really perked up when he mentioned total protein calories being over 15 or 16% being a problem. The protein in my diet varies between 12 and 14%. The percentage of my calories coming from fat varies between 2% and 4%.
    The extra carbohydrates in my diet encourage me to train more. It feels amazing. I’m lifting more frequently and building muscle like nobody’s business and everything is trim but he wouldn’t believe. This is mine blowing. I can’t believe it 🤯

    When I came out of grief I realized I'd been on a food bender for at least a year. Though I mostly stayed vegan it was lots of vegan junk food.
    Took my blood sugar one morning about a week ago and it was 148. Thanks to Dr. and Miss Mary I didn't panic. The glucose count, the scale,and expensive lab tests are like the idiot lights in a car.
    Started the rice diet but my bowels need more fiber so I'm keeping the 40 grams daily of fiber in play, ( Dr Barnard)
    I've switched the rice for potato as it has twice as much fiber and it's whole.
    I'm in a lot of pain I think from inflammation so thanks for saying aspirin is ok.
    I'm pretty sure I'm following your maximum weight loss although I call it The Maximum Health Gain program.
    Thanks for all you do, especially the studies you share. It's helped me not be intimidated by the white coats.
    I could recite facts till I'm blue in the face and lots of Doctors just look at you like you're stupid, but hand them a printed out study and it's like kryptonite. Deadly to egos.

    I have osteoarthritis and suffered joint pain in my lower back, hip and neck every day for over 2 years. When COVID hit, i started researching diet to try to lose a little weight and came across Dr McDougal's videos on plant based eating. Tried it and within 2 months my pain was reduced 80%. I also have issues with sunflower oil so if i eat anything with that in it, i have pain issues. I also had to avoid tomatoes temporarily but not anymore. I live 100% pain free now thanks to eating a plant based diet

    This is the reason all my westerner friends looked down upon our cake serving size here in Indonesia. A 8”pan of cake that is so rich full of butter, eggs & sugar would serve up to 30 servings. Next week i gotta catch this live so i could ask doctor McDougall to settle my argument with my mom. I prefer my veggies coz they’re tasty & savory and go well with a big bowl of mixed grain rice and they’re cheap. My mom on the other hand prefers her fruits and used to limit my rice consumption to make me lose weight. Now she got all sort of health issue at 75yrs old and still insisting she needs her fat and vitamins from all those fruits and fish.

    Lidl in the UK sells amazing sundried veggies (aubergines, zucchini/courgettes, peppers and tomatoes) and sundried tomatoes during Italian week and I stock up on them, they have a little salt but no oil or sugar and the taste is so concentrated and amazing that you can actually only eat a little. Great in salads, on pasta, or as a healthy snack as they're very low on calories.

    In the past few years I have noticed a huge amount of people in the UK needing mobility aids or knee/hip replacements and they are all invariably obese (I work in animal welfare and their pets unfortunately are obese too).

    I have a lovely new dentist and he said that the WHOLE family had gastric bypass, both parents and all his siblings. He himself had it when he was in his early 20s, he is now late 20s, I was so shocked. He said he was interested in plant-based eating so I gave him some information. He said his stomach is expanding again and his cravings have not gone.
    Then I met a lady in the park who told me she lost 1st, she did not look healthy at all. She gave me a long list of all the "diet-friendly" foods she ate (all animal products) and told me she was hungry all the time. I told her this is not sustainable and she will binge and put the weight back on sooner or later. I tried to recommend WFPB eating but I could tell it was not sinking in, she is still overweight, needs a walking aid, she has bad skin and hair loss, swollen ankles, etc.

    Hello Heather. Thank you for these live sessions. My question is regarding what can be done for some of these health issues (like asthma for example) for someone who has been a long time vegan, eating a plant-based diet, and low-normal BMI and athletic? My lab work shows low values on vitamins, minerals and protein in particular. I feel fine, except for the asthma. I don't eat beans. I eat rice, potatoes and green vegetables. My doctor is forcing supplements on me and I don't want to take them. She also says my diet is the "problem". What can I do, my doctor won't investigate further because she's convinced it's my "deficient" diet.

    • @luluandmeow
      @luluandmeow Před rokem +2

      Are you eating enough variety in your grains, etc.? How about sweet potatoes, mushrooms, fruit? Why aren't you eating beans? What about other legumes like peas and lentils?

    • @evec2022
      @evec2022 Před rokem +1

      @@luluandmeow I vary the produce depending on what's on sale. Usually carrots, mushrooms, broccoli, cauliflower, (lettuce), berries, grapes, apples. Also corn and sweet potatoes. For rice, I eat brown and red rice. Right now I am not eating beans and lentils, because it got worse when I was eating them, so I tried eating a lower protein diet. I should mention that I live in Canada where it's -40F a few weeks in the year, and hovers between 10F and -10F the rest of the winter! I'm gluten intolerant so no wheat/pasta. Also, I tried the rice and potato only elimination diet and feel better physically, but the asthma issue is still there.

    I am on the Starch Solution/ mostly MWL for life. It's a way of life I'm not willing to give up. It's been hard to get rid of some digestive problems, and other inflammatory problems. What do I have to gain by changing it? Not always 50/50, but always WFPB no SOS.

    I've been having some stomach pain so I'm giving up coffee and eating just potatoes (white and sweet) for a couple of days. I take a coconut kefir for probiotics. I just read the label and it has 1g of fat. Would taking that be hurting my stomach? Maybe I should stop taking it? Thank you for all your videos.
