At World's End - How to Build the Perfect Action Sequence | Film Perfection

- With Birds of Prey Harley Quinn failing at being an impostor Jack Sparrow, let's travel back in time to take a look at the real Captain Jack Sparrow, this time in the trilogy conclusion, At World's End. While this movie might not be the most flawless movie overall, when it comes to the maelstrom ship battle action sequence at the very end with the Black Pearl going against the Flying Dutchman and Davy Jones, it does shine bright. Not only is it a great action set-piece, it's one of the greatest action set-pieces of all time. In today's Film Perfection, let's see what narrative elements it uses to make that happen. For a brief moment, let's return to a better time when Johnny Depp was still Captain Jack Sparrow and things were great. Here's hoping for one more, Pirates of the Caribbean 6 with him.

Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) is hopelessly trapped in Davy Jones' locker after a harrowing encounter with the dreaded Kracken, and now Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) must align themselves with the nefarious Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) if they hold out any hope of saving their old friend from a fate worse than death. Meanwhile, Will, Elizabeth, and Captain Barbossa navigate treacherous waters and face bitter betrayal as they set sail to gather the only army that can stand up to Beckett -- The Nine Lords of the Brethren Court. But Captain Jack Sparrow is one of the lords, and as long as he's stuck in Davy Jones' locker, Beckett and his nefarious armada are sure to emerge victorious. There's still hope, however, if the heroic team that includes Tia Dalma (Naomie Harris), Pintel (Lee Arenberg), and Ragetti (Mackenzie Crook) can reach exotic Singapore and convince vulpine pirate Sao Feng (Chow Yun-Fat) to provide them with charts and a ship. But even the powerful Brethren Court may need a bit of help from volatile sea goddess Calypso in order to weather the coming storm. With the entire future of the pirate way at stake, everyone will be forced to choose sides while drifting precariously to the edge of the earth for one final, spectacular battle.

Can we talk about how great a villain Davy Jones is?
His motivation is as understandable as you get: The guy just wants to live.
I love how everyone has their own motivations to get the heart and Davy Jones is just like “No you can’t stab it, it’s my fucking heart!”
@@justadummy8076 Honestly, Jack made a deal with him. Jones was so mad at Jack when in return, Jack kidnapped his heart.

I think you have the line slightly wrong there. I'm pretty sure what Barbosa says is "Dying, is the day worth living for!" as in, the freedoms that we [as pirates] have fought for, are under threat from the imperialism that is the EITC
@@lorenzoriley3567 I’m pretty sure it is “dying is a day worth living for.” Barbossa was cursed remember. He couldn’t feel anything and died as soon as the curse was lifted. The scene where he meets his end is perfect. The music, the visuals... everything!
Only thing that I really dislike is the unrealism when it comes to the end of the Endeavour. For starters, it is a first rate ship of the line, those things had ABSURDLY thick hulls, and the puny light cannons present on such a small ship like the Pearl wouldnt even leave a scratch, literally, it would be akin to an old ship of the line trying to down an ironclad. Not only that, but, the men refusing to fire until given explicit orders to do so? In reality, in short order after their CO went silent for no reason, the second in command would have just ordered the broadside anyway, and even if not, the men would have done so anyway, surviving a naval battle tends to be higher on the mind than any possible retribution for disobeying orders.
@@theconeezeanemperor1619 you're forgetting that Black Pearl is a resurrected ship by none other than Davey Jones himself. So that has to count for something
@@theconeezeanemperor1619 to be fair, The Black Pearl is a resurrected ship by Davy Jones, and both the Pearl and the Dutchman are at point blank range to the Endeavor.

Λοιπόν μπορώ να πω ότι συμφωνώ με αυτό που λες. Ο Davy Jones είναι πραγματικά μια πιο σκοτεινή και ''θαλασσινή'' ενσάρκωση του Darth Vader
@@user-mx4is4fx3c facts
The movie is full of amazing symbolism, people are just too lazy to notice.
Lest we forget the immortal words of Jack's father, Captain Teague... "It’s not just about living forever, Jackie. The trick is living with yourself forever."
The fatherly advice he received was paid off in a big way and likely what ended up tipping the scales in his mind since he was obviously quite conflicted about it. He could have let Will die and taken the Dutchman for himself, but then he'd carry the guilt around with him for eternity.
Bingo!! I'm surprised Film missed adding this on the Payoff/Setup part
"The trick is living with yourself forever" could actually mean two things.. living with your "sane self" with all the regrets & guilts which will haunt you forever.. OR living with your "insane self" at which point you are not yourself anymore (just like the zombie crew of the Dutchmen) then what's the point of living forever if you are not yourself..
And Jack has already shown throughout the trilogy that if there's one thing that he wants the most, it's freedom (and rum). Being tied to the Dutchman might make him immortal, but in exchanged it would make him a prisoner of the ship.
Didn’t even talk about the conclusion, when the pearl is going to face the night of the British navy, seemingly alone and then you see the Dutchman come up with will as captain to face it with him
Just another payoff to the setup of Will stabbing the heart, it was brilliant
Technically it was the East India Trading Company, not the official Navy, but de facto wasn't much difference.

You forgot to mention: when Jack steals the pistol from the grunt he uses the grip as a club, which was the payoff set up by Pintel and Ragetti after the Mexican standoff between jack, will, barbossa, and Gibbs ended with the fact that their pistols wouldn’t work because they had wet gun power. Pintel said “hey, we can still use them as clubs” and ragetti then hit Pintel on the head with the pistol like Jack did in that scene. The final battle in the whirlpool is probably one of the most fucking gorgeous action scenes I’ve ever seen, the music, the heavy rain, the debris flying everywhere, words can’t explain how amazing it was seeing it for the first time.
I like the fact that Davy Jones fights with the Saber Will crafted in the beginning of the first movie, wich he took after Norrington stabbed him with it. He then stabs Will with it and after he died, the Saber returns into Wills possession, as captain of the flying dutchman.
Full circle.
Oh, and also Barbossa. There is a reason "BOSS" is in his name.
DYING IS THE DAY WORTH LIVING FOR
There's also this exchange in a deleted scene:
Beckett: Remarkable. Last I saw of that ship, she was on fire. A blackened hull , sinking beneath the waves. We had a deal, Jack. I contracted you to deliver cargo on my behalf, you chose to liberate it.
Jack: People aren't cargo, mate.
Beckett: And you incurred a heavy debt to raise her up again, didn't you?
It makes me wish this deleted scene did make it into the final cut, because it adds a layer of depth to Jack's character (adding to that caring nature you were talking about in the video) as well as establishes his relationship with Cutler Beckett, as well as implies that he is the reason for Jack's debt with Jones, his turn to piracy, and even the Black Pearl itself, which would have given him a much greater presence in the franchise, I think.
If i remember correct the debt with jones for the pearl was equal to the amount of poeple he saved.
To me it's almost better that it was cut, and now makes so much more sense to me as to why it was cut after watching the video. Putting that scene in would've made the final part of Jack's selfless act less impactful. We as the viewers see very few, if any at all, instances of Jack being selfless. As it's put in the video, we have a selfish narcissist who portrays himself as though he doesn't care about anyone or anything making the ultimate sacrifice. Having even a little bit of knowledge that Jack is capable of making great selfless acts (being branded a criminal just to save the lives of slaves) would have definitely made that ending scene less impactful than it was.
When I watched the film that was in it?
@@rorydixon4579 It was in a deleted scene, so it wasn't in the final movie.
I like that scene because Beckett's last line "And you incurred a heavy debt to raise her up again, didn't you?" references Jack's debt to Davy Jones of 100 souls, referencing Jack's hypocrisy in saying that "People aren't cargo".
The other great thing about the maelstrom battle setting is that while we know Calypso made it, neither us nor the characters know if Calypso made it to help or hinder, or who is being helped or hindered. Davy Jones certainly thinks that Calypso is doing it for him, but at the same time it appears after the heroes have asked Calypso for help.
I just rewatched the entire series (except Dead Men Tell No Tales was my first time) and as a younger viewer, I never really paid attention to all the details. Upon rewatching, it finally clicked when Will revealed Davy Jones to be her betrayer and Jones went into the maelstrom thinking she was on his side. Brilliant little detail.
I didn’t interpret it as Jones thinking she was on his side, I think he was more in awe she was a god again. Honestly though they made his feelings about her too convoluted. He says he wants her dead then after he visits her he basically says he still loves her. That would create interesting internal conflict except it goes nowhere. That last line he has about her having his heart is the last they interact and aside from when he sees her start the maelstrom is the last impact she has on him at all.
@@bigblue207 Good point. When he starts screaming after seeing the maelstrom, I could never tell if he was angry that they didn't keep her bound to her human form, that he was in pain just knowing she was present, or if her presence gave him some kind of strength and he yelled to express it. I prefer not knowing, though.
@@newabortion515 The way I see it is that Jones realized that Calypso was on absolutely nobody's side. The maelstrom is a chaotic neutral force of nature put smack dab in the middle of both the Pirate and EITC armadas, and as both the Black Pearl and Flying Dutchman sail towards each other it comes along waiting to spell doom for everyone regardless.
The night before, Calypso had told Jones that she was going to unleash her fury on the Brethren Court who imprisoned her. It wasn't until the next day when Will revealed that Jones was the one who betrayed her to the Brethren Court that she knew anything. Upon learning of Jones' betrayal, she decided not to kill the pirates then and there and decided that everyone should be swept away in her fury. Hence why Jones screams after seeing the maelstrom, he knows that Calypso is not on his side nor anyone elses; this contest will be decided between the Pearl and the Dutchman, and damnation awaits the both of them.
@@bigblue207 i saw that scene on the jail as Jones being afraid of Calypso knowing it was him who betrayed her.

@@alexman378 True that. But still it was a let down seeing such a ship get blown to bits while not even putting up a fight.
I think the reason why Beckett didn’t fire was because he released that the people he had treated like pawns in a game of chess are not afraid to rise up against him and that gave him a feeling of defeat so he hesitated to fire which cost him his life in the end
That wasn't this decade
One thing to add for the setup scenes : the fact that Jack told Elisabeth in dead man's chest that a captain has the power to marry people on his ship makes the wedding + Kissing scene Between Will and Elisabeth even more interessant. Great video by the way ;)
The small guy being thrown away because of the explosion of the weapon he was using makes this movie the best one.
And then he learns to use it without being thrown away. Another awesome payoff.
Such an underrated film!
Very right, also how do you have the check mark next to your name? I thought that was only a twitter thing?
You don’t have to explain I was just curious Liz

Never even realised jack was actually trying to find out where the key was when he said that he already had the key to jones, I just thought it was a joke
i just thought he was being dumb af in a classical Jack way
This movie has my favorite two sentence exchange of all time.
“I can set you free, mate!”
“My freedom was forfeit long ago, *RAAAH!* “
Each line perfectly encapsulates each character’s mental state and motivation. After that they immediately start fighting because what else needs to be said?
My favourite part of this film is when Mr Gibbs reveals that the 9 Pieces of Eight are “9 things we had in our pockets at the time”
Davy John was said that he was forced to kill his pet. Later, we saw the scense, the remaining of the Kraken. Beautiful pay off. It gave me a strong emotion for Davy John and Jack.
For me that was such a disappointing end for the Kraken. It was such a big part of the second film. The whole thing just feels rushed in my opinion.
@@faz6877 shoulda had the Dutchman go underwater and kill the kraken in a dope scene
@@bigchungus7050 Completely agree. Seems like a no brainer to me.
@@faz6877 I think that may have been the point.
The Kraken, in-universe, was this enormous, terrifying, but also awe-inspiring and incredible creature. The fact that it meets a sad, uneventful end at Beckett's command, who essentially sought to either pacify and control anything remotely magical/supernatural on the seas, or destroy it utterly, sort of makes a depressing sort of sense.
But I do think it would've been good to see Davy Jones pull the trigger on his own sea monster. Would've made his escape from Mercer and Beckett's control that much more satisfying!
@@SalvationCode The way I see it this is supposed to be a fun popcorn film. I'm all for compelling drama but from what I saw the absence of the Kraken felt more like they ran out of time and resources rather than a poetic statement. If that was the case they could have taken 5 minutes and hit the point home. It's like a blink and miss it moment if I recall. They could have used it to make Beckett look more like a badass. I don't think he comes close to Davey Jones, so anything to help his character develop would have helped.
Plus I would love a nice on screen death for the Kraken. Lot of cool ways you could kill that thing.
10:23 is also a payoff to another moment. The scene earlier in the movie when they're all pointing their guns at each other and they don't work because if the wet powder and the one says "You can still use them as clubs" and hits the other guy
Good observation!!
Naomie Harris as Calypso, Bill Nighy as Davy Jones, Geoffrey Rush as Barbossa, all having fun with their performances. So incredibly entertaining to watch.
The backstory of Davy Jones was one of the best I have ever seen. You almost feel sorry for him
“The high ground place” - nice.
FINALLY A COMMENT ON THIS
I've searched this comment section for ages, and finally!
I Loled so much with that xD
It's over now, I have the high ground !
I'm a film major and at the beginning of every film Class I have to stand up and say my favorite movie. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End is my favorite movie of all time. I've argued with my professors many time about how the third and even second movie is better than the first. The first is still amazing though. All my professors now know me at the Pirates of the Caribbean guy. I absolutely love it.
Go teach 'em mate! I assure you you have a great taste!!
welcome to the club :) first is amazing but in the end of the day offers nothing complex, third offers everything IMO,my favourite movie and will be forever...
I’d like to hear your perspective. Favorite movie doesn’t necessarily equal better. Movies in general are pretty hard to objectively measure but for my taste this one had so many nonsensical plot devices and lines that just have no payoff and therefore no reason to even be said. My big issue with the second one is the whole thing with jack being on the native island, it added absolutely nothing for how long it went on. Don’t get me wrong, I think just about everything else in these movies is really superb, like costumes, set design, acting, so on. I definitely don’t understand what the video author meant by the second one being a master of plot however and I really want to hear why you think this movie is better than the first two.
You've earned that title
i wanna be like u omg
Actually, jack saving will is also a payoff
In potc 2, Davy Jones asks jack, "Can you condemn an innocent man, a friend. While you roam free?" When he sends will to 'settle his debt'.
So he saves the same man, in exchange of the thing he wanted most
Is nobody gonna talk about the fact that he labeled the Anakin-obi wan battle as ‘high ground place’
Every scene involving the Flying Dutchman was a masterpiece. From its first appearance up to the chase sequence where it would chase down another ship mercilessly, opening fire with it's two massive front facing minigun-cannons. No need to explain how it is the ship of the bad guy. It's a force of nature.
15:13 That moment is why I love Capt Jack and why he is still a good person in the end.
In Deadman’s Chest, Jack decided to screw Will over to Davy Jones and tried to ditch the *Black Pearl* and his crew to escape the Kraken(although he did had a change of heart in the end and help save the day...until he got screwed over by Elizabeth but that’s karma).
Here, Jack had spent most of the movie playing both sides in order to get Jones’ heart to clear his debt to Jones and be immortal.
But at the end of the day, Jack was shocked that Will, the guy he tends to use as a pawn to exploit in the three films, was dying and chose to save his life over his selfish goals. And when the pirates had to face Beckett, *Jack* was the one who decided to fight head on despite his previous unwillingness to help the pirates and tried to screw them over.
That is why Captain Jack Sparrow is *the* Pirate of the Caribbean.
Karma also pays off for that one as Will helps Jack obliterate Beckett.
Amazing moment
One of the other moments of payoff that I think is great is another aspect of Jack choosing to save Will.
As Captain Teague said
“It's not just about living forever, Jackie. The trick is still living with yourself forever.”
Jack is the ultimate version of "the Thief with a Heart of Gold". During his entire lifetime he has situations where he would be better off being Heartless or cruel, yet, never takes that option. He's a good man, just, enjoys pirating and adventure to change his ways 100%
I love the trilogy.
Wish they had stopped after the third movie.
Or it could be Avengers 5 Pirates of the Carrabian 6
Iron man vs Jack Sparrow
They did. There's only 3 movies.
Yeah, what do you mean? I only know of 3 movies.
There are actually 5 movies, the last two being "On Stranger Tides" and "Dead Men Tell No Tales". Jack, Gibbs, and Barbossa are the only OG characters to appear in "Tides", but more OG characters come back in "Tales".
Stranger Tides was great. I mean, can’t hold a candle to what came before it but it’s just Jack being Jack.
Tales on the other hand . . . utterly destroys the powerful ending of the original trilogy.
Finally!! A guy who actually likes this movie franchise!!
I don't know anyone who doesn't, the best movie franchise of all time.
The Senate and what about Star wars
I like the first few, the rest to stranger tides are eh and the ones after stranger tides I full on hate
@Cartoon Judge! C.G. no clue who that is
Man, I always loved this movie's aesthetic. The weird and magical sequences happening "on the other side," the dive into the lore, the dimlit sets... It's such a delight to watch.
I love the way the music picks up right after Jones shows Jack the key. Being in the presence of both the chest and the key is literally the endgame of the movie so the second they are both within his grasp Jack is like "It's showtime."
Not THE best movie ever, but still my favorite movie of all time.
Welcome aboard mate
Logan Legend I agree. None of the films are my favorite on their own, but the story that unfolds throughout the trilogy is probably my favorite of all time.
something similar, but i think it's the best movie ever considering everything...
At World's End is my favorite of the franchise. I know arguments can be made that the first and second are better, but like you said, I don't care! This one gave us so many beautiful shots and most are visual moments I've never seen before. Some of my favorites: the whole Davy Jones' locker sequence with the Singapore ship on icy waters then going over the waterfall, Black Pearl ''sailing'' on sand, Black Pearl up-is-down in the water moment, the Brethren Court, the whole maelstrom sequence and Beckett's death. Also, I did not expect Disney to start this movie by hanging a child! But it was a really good opener!
Not too mention the song that boy sings slaps!
I don't know how anyone could say the second is better
@JB I really don't like the second one. Especially the climax where they basically play catch with Davy Jones's heart. Just stab the damn thing Jack, this is what you wanted!
@JB As for the best, I personally give it to the 3rd. Sure , the first is funnier and it has a more tight linear plot. But the third one is more epic and grandiose
The third was great. The only major problem it had is that it removed the greatest obstacle the protagonists needed to face (the Kraken).
I'm going to play the pirates of the Caribbean theme song when Johnny wins the case against Amber Heard in my whole neighborhood.
This day will be remembered as the day Amber Heard almost caught Captain Jack Sparrow.
Amber: It’s nothing personal Johnny...it’s just good business.
**Johnny wins the case**
Also Amber: It was just..... good business.
Edit): Fuck!
Dang... :'( this is tragic

Shoutout to the score for doing some serious work, too. "I Don't Think Now is the Best Time" is one of Zimmer's all-time greatest compositions, if not his best IMO. It's a 10 minute-long act-driven piece that manages to deliver tension, emotion, tragedy, scope, promise, danger, adventure, fun, and thematic motifs without feeling unbalanced, subdued, or overly-long. The scene seems like it was driven around the music just as much as the music sounds like it was perfectly tailored to the scene with zero dissonance. It's legendary stuff.
the man who made the sword , in the end was stabbed by it 13:23
"A touch of destiny"
This movie is an orgy of payoffs.
Omg thats horrble😱
I do not understand how people do not like this movie
My favorite out of the series
I think it’s kinda a similar case like Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 and X-Men The Last Stand in the sense where it wasn’t perceived as well as the first two when it came out but slowly people started coming around to it even with its flaws
Because it's too long, had a too convoluted plot, and has too many characters. Nevertheless, I still thought it was great!
Because of the buckets lmao
I watched these movies when I was younger and didn't understand most of them lmao
Well, The Curse of the Black Pearl was amazing and everything after was way too over-the-top, confusing, noisy and boring. I admit the third is the least bad.
That unexpected switch to saving private ryan just had me laughing for a solid 5-10 minutes.
Thats exactly my humour.
You earned yourself a new sub.
this fight scene is one of the best fight scenes ever simply for the fact that it has one of the most Iconic wedding scene in the history of cinema. the rain, the way they yell their vows, the stabs inbetween the dialogues, barbossa giving them the go ahead to kiss by telling them to "just kiss"... poetic cinema. the perfect mix of action, romance, and comedy. never saw any other movie manage to rival it.
Fillmento making a video about Pirates of the Caribbean: At The World'sEnd: "I have waited a long time for this moment".
This movie is absolutely fantastic. The madness, the visuals, the moments of reflexion, the music, the character development... It is my favorite Pirates of the Caribbean movie and it is a phenomenal conclusion for this trilogy (because it is a trilogy, fuck On Stranger Tides and Dead Men Tell No Tales)
Absolutely true
Hell yeah, I totally agree. Best POTC movie in my oppinion.
The only part I liked about the last two pirates movies was will being freed of his curse. It was heartbreaking watching at worlds ends epilogue where Will meets his son when he’s 10 years old
The writing was pretty weak. I really enjoyed the rest of it but there was too much time spent making these stupid deals that go nowhere and get reversed 20 minutes later. This is a 3 hour movie, I don’t know why they felt the need to include that. There’s also that whole sequence with Jack in Davy Jones locker that was just nonsensical for nonsense’s sake and didn’t have anything symbolic to say about death. They definitely didn’t need him sniffing, eating a peanut, talking to a whole crew of Jacks, finding out there was no one there, jumping off the ship, meeting a rock crab, and then having the crabs take the black pearl to shore just to say “yeah he’s in the afterlife now”.
I do enjoy the visuals, costumes, sets, choreography and so forth. This scene in particular that the video is about was really well done. I just personally think this movie was nothing more than a good popcorn flick and had no wider implications and nothing to say. Like the video even said, people remember this movie for the visuals, not the message (because there wasn’t one).
@@bigblue207 So you didn't understand the film at all, congratulations.
At worlds end was and always will be my favorite pirates movie. Everyone just likes to hop on the hate bandwagon. This series made my childhood awesome.
I love this movie so much, I too have the rose tinted glasses on when I watch it, but even after so many years I catch onto something new every time I watch it. To be honest it was only after watching this video that I realized some of those "oh Jack is just being funny" moments was actually him being clever. He's on another level
I agree the movie is great, but all I remember it for is Elizabeth saying, "Fyra!" When everyone says "Fire!"
At least, I think that's in this one. It's honestly what I remember all of Pirates for.
It's fire all ! She's the leading commander the pirate king
@@abhinavsumesh2549 That makes so much more sense, thank you for fixing that movie for me.
@@wockomtosh you're welcome 🙂
This movie deserves more appreciation, I thought it was a perfect and satisfying end to the trilogy. Also, Jack and Barbossa's discussions were great.
Barbossa is an amazing character. It still gives me chills when he appears at the end of Deadman's Chest. And nice clue for who was coming when the undead monkey runs to a man lying on a bed at Tia Dalma's house, earlier in the film.
Barbossa in At worlds end is in my opinion the best version.
That "Think like the whelp, think like the whelp - leverage!" moment was one of the most satisfying payoffs I've seen in some time.
At World's End is one of the best pirates of the Caribbean movies. prove me wrong.
Love this trilogy and it feels like there is nothing like it these days.
The moment they get married has me tearing up every time. Tears during an action sequence.
And Barbossa celebrating the marriage. Perfect!
"Just kiss!"
"I'M A LITTLE BUSY AT THE MOMENT!!"
Can we just acknowledge the line from jack to Davy where he said, “ I can set you free mate”. I don’t know why, but that line always gets me.
Jones' response to that is top tier too
@@mirayoquese8608 "My freedom was forfeited long ago".
It also helps that it's one of the most intricately detailed choreographies in cinema. Nearly EVERY background character in that scene is an actual actor on an ACTUAL boat dueling somebody else in a torrential downpour. You can watch the entire fight ten times and still see something new each time, especially considering the INCREDIBLE detail put into the CGI of Davy Jones' crew. For example, as the on-disc director's commentary points out, during a scene in the battle, one of Jones' crew can be seen fumbling around in the background because somebody stabbed him in the back with a sword and he can't get it out, since the handle is behind him.
The 3 man sword fight for the chest was also well executed.
I always associate this movie with Jack and Davy sword fighting on the mast. Every time I think about the movie, that image comes up, and it was the shot that made me excited about the film when I was watching the trailers about it before it came out.
Alexander Angelus same here
I recently rewatched this movie. That mast shot was fucking legendary and made me go 'holy shit' out loud because my memories of this trilogy are pretty hazy.
This one and “over the edge, over again”

I never understood where the hate for the second and third movie come from. I loved them wholeheartedly growing up and still do. The scene where Davy Jones & Jack are dueling on the Sails still remains my favorite scene because of the music that plays alone. it perfectly orchestrates the battle between two pirate legends over the fate of the seas as an epic version of Hoist the Colors plays.
Just finished rewatching the trilogy (I might watched all 5 movies, but really, it's perfect at 3. What surprises me is the emotional investment between the characters; Will and his father, Will and Elisabeth, Davy Jones and Calypso, even Norrington, and Jack with everyone. There's so MUCH going on, sometimes even TOO much, but the series did succeed at making us care about these pirates.
I love when Davy Jones says “...No you don’t.”
It was the third installment in the franchise they had every right to skimp on the sword fighting action sequence but THEY NEVER DID AND I LOVE IT!!
Man growing up I could watch this trilogy over and over again - I'm not much of a fan of the other movies - and it's just so perfectly executed.
I love At Worlds end. It’s my favorite Pirates film. I can’t help but love it. From the story, plot, lore, characters everything it’s just fantastic. You understand every characters motivates. You have great characters like Jack, Barbosa and Will, while also having fantastic villains in Beckett and Jones. It’s one of the best movies ever. I love all 3 of the og pirates movies it’s what I grew up with. This was the endgame before endgame. I personally think overall this is one of the best films ever. My favorite franchises is Star Wars and Terantino but this is a easy next best franchise. I love films and this film is an example of great filmmaking that keeps you hooked. Overall 10/10 films to me.
The series ends with AWE to me, the conclusion to Davy Jones' arc, coupled with Hans Zimmer's legendary music, is just amazing.
Yes i pretent it ended at 3rd !!!
I’ve been watching a lot of POTC lately. It’s really taken for granted how original and amazing this franchise is. At least the first three. It’s really a perfect trilogy.
He forgot to mention that the sword Davy Jones uses to kill Will was the same one he crafted for Norrington's promotion to Admiral back in COTBP
The At Worlds End Maelstrom battle was one of the best final battles ever! The music was perfect, the CGI was perfect, the dialogue was Perfect! It was the perfect ending to the franchise! Until it wasn’t 😒
This movie is amazing. In my headcanon I consider PoTC to be a trilogy and this is a great finale to it.
Same. I only own the 1st 3 on blu ray.
@@KiomonDuck me too, but on DVD. I just can't consider the last 2 films canonic, altough I quite like the fifth one.
I'm glad movies I liked in my childhood finally seem to get the praise they deserve. Never understood the hate for Dead Men's Chest and At World's End.
I like the detail of Davy Jones breaking the sword but it was the weapon that was used to kill him. It's like how he thought he broke Jack but in the end, Jack's the reason of Jones' being defeated.
The original PoC trilogy is one of my favorite serious. It was clever and funny, action and drama. This is what I want when I see a movie
