Putting this in perspective, a lot of farmers are still using 4020s built 50 + years ago but nobody was using these 50 years after they were built ( same time as 4020s being built).

My great grandfather was an international salesman for Moline Plow. He traveled the world selling these tractors.

Really liked the stories of the experiences using these tractors. Really enjoy talking to the "ole timers" at gatherings for the first hand experiences.

Fascinatating. When one thinks of it in comparison to a horse, it makes a lot of sense. Comparing it to modern equipment is preposterous.

Those who call them "silly" obviously do not stop and think. Realizing in a lot of ways those were well advanced for the time. Being most still used horses and fit smaller farms perfectly. As another perfectly put it, too many people take for granted the technology we have today, not appreciating what it took too get too todays modern machinery and equipment.

I just pulled a model D out of the woods that belongs to the fire company. It has all concrete wheels for road rolling, even solid concrete on the back.

My Grandfathers Neighbor had one. The Farm bordered a River.. Cows would get mired in the marsh. The farmer would put a yoke around the Cows Neck and pull them out with the Moline Universal ..

I like how the drive is geared to the wheel, like a starter motor to an inside out flywheel. Interesting way to avoid a driven axle.

Looks like they would hang up with slick wheels like that.

These early machines are awesome, the fact that we had ideas of combustion engines in the middle ages is impressive but did not have the metallurgy to create these engines nor the proper fuel to run them reliably, I really wonder what a tractor made in 16th century would look like.

We take electric start, modern steering and oil systems for granted. It’s great to shine the spotlight on machines like these which were part of the transition to these conveniences.
