  • A beautiful 1918 Case 9-18 Cross-motor tractor, purchased used in 1920 by Delwin Van Zante's grandfather in Iowa. It's been in the family ever since. Beautifully restored, this tractor was one of the stars at the 175th anniversary of Case in Albert City, Iowa hosted by the Albert City Threshermen & Collectors Association. Enjoy this beautiful and historic Case tractor!

This Unrestored 101 year old 1922 22-40 Crossmotor Case Tractor has been in the same family Since NEW, having been purchased by Arthur Hansen, a farmer in the rolling hills of South Wayne, Wisconsin, trading in His Father's Steam Engine & Threshing Machine to make the purchase at the age of 21 to harvest the grain not only on his farm but surrounding farms surrounding his homestead.
He wanted something that would be big enough that would support his growing farmland and be efficient when traveling to other farms. He went with the 1922 Case 22-40 crossmotor case because it was designed for belt work, rated at 22 hp at the draw bar and 40 hp at the drive belt pulley it was one of the biggest tractors of its time, and purchased the tractor for $2,600.00
He Also bought a brand new 1923 Case 28-50 with a Stattley Stacker for $1,450 to go with the tractor.
In 1950 he cut the original steel lugged wheels off and welded on tractor rims with rubber tires since the farm was becoming surrounded with black top and they still needed to travel from farm to farm with it.
Arthur and his son, Arleigh Hansen, used both the tractor and threshing machine on the home farm until the 1960's.
In 1978 they started to demonstrate how threshing was done by displaying both units at the Stephenson Antique Engine Club's Annual Threshing Show in Freeport IL, which is where I first saw it with Arleigh and His 6 year old son Greg running it.
Fast Forward to 2019, after Threshing With It at our show for the previous 41 Years, We Finally Got It on the Club's 1880s Circular Sawmill for a Trial Run Thursday Night (Aug 1st) Before the 50th Annual Show with hopes of getting it back on the mill again during the show, but that never materialized so I'm glad I shot this footage of it when I did. In talking with Greg getting some of the history on the tractor I learned that it had also been used on the Family Sawmill, And on a family owned Barrel Stave Mill, similar to the one our Club owns which had originally been bought new by MY Grandfather's Uncle (which I have a short video of as well), so again, I was hoping to get it back on the Mill Again During the Show after hearing more and more about it, but then COVID shut everything down the next year, and as we pondered moving everything down the road from the Fairgrounds to our own smaller show grounds, Greg decided to take the Tractor & Thresher back Home again after being stored in our building at the fairgrounds all those years. So Once Again, I am Glad I Shot THIS When I Did.
