Restoring a Weber Grill - Genesis 1000

  • In this video I take and old Genesis 1000 gas grill from the late 80's/Early 90's and restore it. I hesitate to say I restored it because I did not make it exactly how it was out of the box. For instance the two beams that run across the bottom of the frame were missing or rusted beyond repair. Instead of finding new metal beams, I just used wood.
I had planned on trying to sell the grill to see how much profit I could make, but I opted to give it to my dad for Father's Day (that way I can use it when I go visit.)

Just sold my 1999 Genesis 1000 grill (Red with wood shelf). Mine was in very good shape. Sold it for $100 to a collector who will love it and use it. Very good LP gas grill and worth the investment. I've moved on to a Pit Boss Pro Series 1100 pellet grill and love it.

Recently, the lower supports (front and back came apart, but I still have the metal supports. I need to take mine apart and see if I can reattach those supports somehow. I see you replaced the front support with a piece of wood. How did you attach it? Maybe a stainless steel wood screw? I'd like to use the metal parts that I have, but not exactly sure how to do it unless I put a Piece of rubber into the ends of the supports (or wood) and screw in that way

    Hey Dave,
what an awesome job you did with that restoration.
Thumb up and you have a new subscriber.
I am working since some weeks on a Weber Genesis Gold (2003).
I really want to end up with my restoration on a sort of brand new status.
Most of the parts which had to be replaced are still available.
Except one: that little hose connecting the side burner.
I am desperate, Weber doesn’t produce it anymore and no one has it on stock.
Plus I am living in Germany.
Are you having an idea how I can manage this?

Thanks Dave for your quick answer ... we already checked out the newer models, but had no success with that.
The other problem is, that in Germany we don’t have craftsmen for gas hoses anymore, like it was way back in the 60ies till the 80ies.
Things changed and all that business went up due to globalization. What a pity.
But of course I won’t give up. We will find a solution.
And sure I will keep you updated ... the final product will show up on my channel.

Silvano was doing this one on the cheap. No need for sand blasting. If it lasts my dad 5 years I’ll be happy.

I was given one that was in okay shape. I removed the gas components and with two minor modifications I converted it into a charcoal grill.

You could have done more with the metal, and later in the video revealed you have an angle grinder! 5:23 why didn't you take this metal down before high-temp enamel? Your restoration was great, but seemed rushed.

The paint was solid, no need to take it down with and angle grinder. The fresh coat of high temp paint was more for appearance than function. It evened out the black. Just used the grill a few weeks ago. Still working like a champ.
