- This mod, which will NOT void the warranty, is way way worth your time and energy. Greatly expands its everyday carry capability.

I use heat shrink on the saw to eliminate the wobble.
brilliant
This is awesome. Leatherman should just make these since so many people do it. Unfortunately I don’t have the equipment to do this mod
Some warranty safe mods there, well done.
ty! not my idea, but I wanted to show it on youtube...never seen it here
Just subbed. This is the first video I've seen of your and this is a great idea can't wait for more!
I have been following your channel for quite some time, and I thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. It never ceases to amaze me. Greetings from Chile.
Awesome! Thanks for stopping in! 🇨🇱
Maximun level EDC vid. Getting great ideas from the segment. Cheers mate.
Great mod man! I want to see the awl! This is exactly the quandary I’ve found myself in… 👍🏻🇺🇸
Found this video and I am happy I have couple of the old skeletool which I use as edc. I was almost going to sell mine to buy a T4 but this gives the skeletool more versatility. Maybe I’ll keep them both then.
Thanks for this tutorial!
Oddly satisfying. Thanks for posting.
Definitely going to do this
Great suggestions. I carry the Skeletool all the time at work because it's so light and functional. I have the Surge and the Charge and..... It's a long story... Let's just call it an illness 😁 I like that you can modify it for the Skeletool but can still return it to the Beast if required. Good work young man 👍
I like the light weight of the skeletool it has the tools I use the most on a daily basis but I do carry a extra multi tool just in case I need scissors or a saw the one thing I wish it had out of the box is a precision screwdriver bit holder made into the same bit holder spot
Thanks for the video!)
Just ordered a set, hopefully I can make it work.
just take your time
I knew i wasn't the only one who had this idea. I just didn't have the money to experiment with t shank blades. Now I'm doing it for sure!!
glad I could help
Really cool mod. Thanks for providing this content. Like you, I just got the Grindmaster attachment to the Worksharp Ken Onion for sharpening my blades. I never thought about the possibility of also using it for helping with modding so thanks for showing your modding technique with this sharpening tool.
Do you think the LM Surge's t-slot adaptor can be modded to be put on a Ozark Trail Multiforce? I really like that concept that LM added to the Surge. The possibility of using quality inexpensive cutting blades like the ones made by Bosch on a cheap multi-tool like the Multiforce would be really cool.
I guess theoretically possible? but there will be wobble because of different pivot sizes.
also, those blades wont fit inside the frame, so you will have to either carry them separately or cut then shorter.
I think leatherman could make the skeletool better by taking out the unessessary ammount of extra metal in it so it weighs 3oz to 4 oz instead of 5.
What are you calling unnecessary?? The thing is full of holes already.
@@maxlvledc The layers of metal on the sides that are riveted in.
Fantástico video! I know your position about scissors in skeletool but if you can transform skeletool into a bladeless tool will be the perfect multitool to travel (especially by airplane). Thank for your videos.
it will still get taken, TSA doesn't use their eyes. Last time I flew they took my Style PS...and that is definitely bladeless.
Отличная идея ! Спасибо! Great idea ! Thanks!
Thanks!
Instead of putting epoxy on the side, you could centre punch it in a few places, this will create raised sections and effectively make it wider/tighter
Good idea!!
That’s a great mod. Leatherman should consider making accessories for the exchanger. Will this work the same way in the MUT?
Yes! In fact the mut does this way better
Amazing
When you are using the saw this way, don't you feel like there is too much force applied to a relatively tiny bit holder? Does the bit holder feel sturdy enough to withstand prolonged sawing? Wouldn't the lock mechanism become loose over time? It looks like a wonderful idea but I am a little bit afraid about damaging my skeletoolol.
Not that I'm trying to discourage. This is great work. But I feel like if you have to carry a set of separate attachments for the multitool - you might as well carry around a toolcase. The very point of multitool is that you have a variety of basic tools in small package to solve simple problems and you don't really need anything else.
What about throwing the extra blade and file in wallet? Some people value the light weight option and having emergency saw and file just in case.
Also, do you think it’s possible to install the T-shank blade exchanger from the surge onto the signal, on the outside, where the saw goes?
Nice mod. I was thinking to do this for a file for my charge but having magnets in the scales will make an unpleasant experience to say at least when filing metal. Also this file is no good for plastic 3D printed parts unfortunately. And this is what I need it for.
Ooo, that sounds cool! You could probably mod other files
Great mod, gonna try it out with some Tshank jigsawblades I got lying around, I also want to modify my Skeletool to feature a file instead of a knife (as I can't EDC a locking and onehand opening knife around where I live) I am also aware of the exacto knife holder mods (but they seem quite dear) do you possibly have any suggestions, ideas or tips? thanks in advance and for the great content!
I just ordered and received my Leatherman Saw/File replacement kit today, but had been wondering this exact same thing while walking in the jig saw section. Have you tried the Tshanks yet? How well does it work?
My initial thought was that the Jigsaw blades would bend and break too easily to be worth the effort of modifying them compared to the leatherman ones...
Can this skeletool bit exchanger be moved to a charge or wave outside position, or replace an existing bit holder on a charge or wave platforms (+)?
It cannot, it's part of the frame
Dude that hammer is so cool! How do I get that hammer 3D print file? USA doesn't ship to South Africa
contact Eric from metro grade goods, he is the designer and maybe can help.
That should be 30 degrees chamfer :)
But great mod, really useful improvement!
yep! you are correct lol, but 45 is easier to do visually without a guide.
@ Maxlvledc
Which belt sander do you use in this video?
Worksharp ken onion blade grinder attachment, it's the best
I'm a bit late to the vid on this one, but could you use jigsaw blades? They look about the same and are way cheaper. Is there a way to make this multitool more lefty friendly?
No on the lefty part...but yes on normal jug saw blades
I’ve seen lots of T-shank mods….but nobody discusses the best way(s) to EDC the additional blades.
Really really good point...I use the small plastic holder from the tshanks...but I've also crafted my own holders.
Can you fold it up with these tools locked in place or do they have to come out in which case I would lose them.?
I was wondering if you think the t-shank exchanger would fit on the wave
I've done it...but you have to cut down the tshanks as well..which is why it's not worth. Only makes sense in place of the file because lost of length isn't the end of the world
Is it just the perspective or is the belt on your grinder wider than stock?
I am going to do this. Quick question though is there enough room to leave saw or file in the skeletool in the closed position
yes, but not a lot of it will be exposed (matters more with the saw)
@@maxlvledc 😂😂😂 just realized where but holder on skeletool is on the very end. For some reason I was thinking of a bit exchanger 😂
I mean these are cool mods but at what point do you just buy a wave? The point of the skeletal tool is that it's lighter and easier to pocket because it doesn't have all the extra stuff.
It's true..but this still only adds about 20g to a kit...so your still getting quite a bit from a 5.1 oz tool over a 8.6oz one
It probably doesn't really matter, but wouldn't the angle of the chamfer on the blades be better at 30º rather than 45º, given that the bits are designed to fit inside the hexagonal shape of the Removable Bit Driver and the Bit Driver Extender? I'm guessing here, I haven't actually measured the angle on the bits.
Also, I find the Skeletool more comfortable to use in screwdriver mode when the plier heads are stowed in the forward half. I would use it the same way when sawing. This would make it upside-down to how you have it - the latch would be at the bottom. I guess then that the angles would need to be on the top edge of the blade rather than the bottom.
no doubt..but thats not as easy to eye ball lol.
🙌
Would this work on the signal?
Con un esmeril puedes modificar muchos cosas para montarlas en la eskeletool
Hi Great modifications ! I would love to do the same on my skeletool, but on the lnk to your amazon store I can't find the saw and the diamond file. Would you be so kind and provide me the link to those 2 ?
I have also seen you have a hammer on your skeletool, where does this part come from please ?
I just added both links to the description! Sorry about that!
@@maxlvledc Thank you very much.
Can't you just swap the Surge bit holder into the Sketool?
nope
Awesome. Would a similar trick work with the MUT?
100% yes!
In fact I'm fairly sure it locks even better
@@maxlvledc awesome, thank you!
@@maxlvledc I ordered both Skeletool and MUT to test this :)
@@matusknives the Mut may require a slightly different setup
I just watched this video, replicated the steps, and ruined 2x files and 2x saws. I have a Skeletool CX and none of the hardware will stay in the bit holder to the point of being functional. I even tried not grinding the 1x side to be flat, instead just slowly chamfering the protrusion and the whole side until the tool could just barely slide into the bit holder, but the locking mechanism still won't keep the tool from popping out when sawing.
This is another one of those frustrating and inexplicable things about Leatherman.
They don't sell these pre+made themselves, crazy....
their loss I guess...
Why don't they combine a diamond file with a saw?
I would love to take my Skeletool when traveling but because of the knife it wouldn't get through TSA obviously. Does anybody have any modifications to get it through TSA? I suppose I could just remove the blade altogether but a scissors or something else in its place would be great. Let me know what you all think. TY
I do have one with a scalpel holder(can be seen In my recent video about my top 5)
Would a Dremel do this easily?
Reasonably well yess
Is that opera?
JUST BUY THE RIGHT MULTITOOL FOR YOUR NEEDS 😂
Is this actually practical? Those blades with the hole look like they would break off under any real use.
Just because you're not directly modifying the tool doesn't mean you're NOT voiding the warranty... that's a somewhat bold claim to put in caps.
I've called, it doesn't void warranty...if they now say it does, plz send me and email
or just buy the signal instead of the skeletool
I kinda miss this format.
Me too...😮💨, one of these days I'll be fad enough ahead I can start doing Content I really WANT to do.
@maxlvledc understand. Life is life. Changing background will help spice up your otherwise alreadt quality content. Ps. Waiting for my garage 5 package like a kid waiting for Christmas:))
Buy a Victorinox knife, one time problem solved
all you have to do is state, grind these flush, why do you guys want to tell a life story to modify what is essentially a disposable POS emergency multi tool so overpriced as to be totally ridiculous; when all you have to do is get a toolbox with proper tools for alot less money
