- This could be the last Nintendo Direct of the Switch generation, and expectations were low. This late in the generation usually warrants remakes, remasters, and other easy titles to hold us over until the new system. However, Nintendo surprised us with quite a few new titles and many other awesome third-party announcements. Let's dive into all the big announcements of the Direct!

I feel like something that would make this podcast better is having a Nintendo subject matter expert on your team. I think the lack of discussion of the Mario + Luigi series, weak discussion of DKC series, there are often times where you guys don't know anything about a series until a new switch game comes out. Maybe some of you should start digging into your backlog and play the full series of certain franchises? I'd start with WarioLand bc at the next WarioLand reveal it would be disappointing to hear - "oooh looks nice, this will be my first one" from virtually everyone
Personalities and discussion are still great, and I think the pod and you guys are all awesome!
Absolutely. I'm not even the biggest Nintendo fanboy and the amount of times I say, "What? You haven't played any of those games?" is pretty often. "Mario & Luigi" was great on the GBA & the DS (fell off hard on the 3DS) and Brothership has some potential. Hopefully it's one of the good ones! Donkey Kong Country games are great too. DKC 1 & 2 on SNES were amazing at the time and I even convinced myself that DK 64 was pretty good too.
The Switch has one of the greatest libraries of all time

Gene made a really good point at the end of this episode--that this Direct was particularly notable for providing plenty of fan groups something they had been waiting a long time for.
On that note, it saddens me a bit that the Brick-fisters didn't talk about the Ace Attorney Investigations Collection at all. The first game is fine, but the second game in the collection is a HUGE win for Ace Attorney fans, as it was the last remaining installment that had never left Japan. 13 years later, Capcom is finally gracing the rest of the world with it, and it's one of the best games in the series!

Great show! So a great point on this Direct had something for everyone, LoZ and Mario & Luigi were the biggest surprises, add the not surprises of Dragon Quest III and Fantasian as my 4 first day buys.

I’m buying MVC on Switch and PS4/5.. Gotta support this release y’all if you’re at all interested in MVC. This is our one and only chance to show them that we want more great MVC titles. Maximilian Dood rallied the troops 3 years ago, and it worked. Capcom returned the call, now we gotta show up.
I'm buying it too. Just on PS4 though. If we can sell a million copies of this collection, I feel like Capcom will have to give us a new game.

Gene, Sakaguchi posted a photo of himself praying at a Shrine a couple months back saying he was asking for good luck on his next project. So, unless it was this release of Fantasian, I think he has at least one more game in him. I hope so! Also, cannot wait to finally play Fantasian, there was no way I was playing it on my phone either.
Even on its last year, Switch is still delivering. What a great direct!

Bro Nintendo absolutely cooked today with this Direct - Zelda game with Zelda as an actual main character, Prime 4 gameplay, new Mario and Luigi, Dragon Quest Remakes, NSO shadowdrops, Ace Attorney Edgeworth games finally getting localized, Mario Party, Fantasian finally getting ported, Donkey Kong Country Returns finally in HD with 3DS content included, MAHVEL FINALLY BACK HAD ME SCREAMING DUDE!
Fantastic showing imo and a great sendoff to Switch 1's final year.

Man this is a 10/10 direct for me, looking at the big names. Bowser’s Inside Story is one of my favorite games ever, so a new M&L game was a HUGE shock! The new Zelda looks super inventive, DKC Returns is a classic, and I’m looking forward to how Prime 4 brings some modern game design to that series since Prime 1 Remastered was conservative with gameplay changes. These games just need to come out sooner!! 🥺

HD-2D games usually look like someone smeared Vaseline over the screen, but Dragon Quest 3 surprisingly didn’t look bad. Might actually get this one for the nostalgia of it.
The depth of field effect? I know a lot of people hate that but I love that stuff and I'm not sure why. Lol
This was one of the best directs in recent memory. So many titles to play before the Switch 2 releases! I love SquareEnix's trend of producing more HD-2D games. Dragon Quest looked excellent!
"HD-2D" is what gets made when there isn't enough budget for 3D. I despise such cheap "nostalgia" exploitation. There's no excuse for 2D games to be made by established studios anymore. The best 2D games that were ever made or ever will be made were created in the 90s or early 2000s. Nothing made in two dimensions will ever measure up to those past titles, so there's no reason to linger in that out-dated gaming format. That era is over and devs need to get the hell out of the past and remind themselves what year it is.

speaking of DQ 3 being a prequel, "SPOILERS" but isnt DQ 11 one to 3 as well with that ending, literally ends with the start of DQ3 with the mother closing the book on DQ11 adventure.
Not sure if they made an update to Four Swords, but the original GBA rom was multiplayer only with at least 2 GBAs and carts needed. My brother also bought the game so we could play together back in the day. It’s also the 1st time I played LttP, and it became my favorite Zelda game period.

Saying that it was better than Xbox showcase is ridiculous, but it was a nice one for sure. MP4 looks extremely promising. And the return of the Bros is a very, very nice surprise.

Metroid looks TERRIBLE. I don't need graphical excellence but it's not even on the level of late PS3. At least give us fast load times if everything is going to look terrible. There's so many games I'd want to play on Switch if it weren't for the load times

@@SolidPython2099 Just looked up gameplay from Heavenly Sword (launch game) and Last of Us on PS3. Dude it's barely better than heavenly Sword, a LAUNCH game. Doesn't even come close to the last us us and Metroid doesn't even show things like faces and hair that really show off fidelity. It's all just shiny metal surfaces and rocks. I guess the lighting is slightly better in Metroid than in Heavenly Sword? I want better from Nintendo man. Not asking for excellence here
@@linkinparkblink182royeah and you forgot to mention one tiiiiiny thing: Heavenly Sword and Last of Us both ran at 720p with massive performance dips, going even below 20s a lot of the time. Prime 4 looks this good(i'd say on par with Halo 4 cuz thats a gorgeous game for its hardware) and runs at 900p60fps? Idk wtf else you expect out of a 7 year old tablet with internals from 2015.
@@SolidPython2099 considering this is probably a switch 2 launch game I’m judging it based on that. If this was a switch game released a year or two ago, I’d still want better but wouldn’t be upset. Just thought Nintendo was finally catching up slightly to the modern era with the switch 2. I’m glad it is in 60, it better be looking like that. That being said, they still consistently put out games in 30 frames or lower

Jeez, did we watch the same Direct? I am convinced that when it comes to Nintendo, there is some kind of mass hypnosis going on with both gamers and media. Aside from Metroid Prime 4, there was absolutely nothing else exciting at this Direct.
It's cool that Zelda is finally getting her own game but I would've preferred it to have been something that didn't look like a mobile game. And you watch, Nintendo will charge 60 bucks for this damn thing. I'm so sick of Nintendo getting away with charging premium prices for indy level work that couldve been made in Dreams or Roblox! And NOBODY in the media calls them out for it, including this panel! No, we all have to sit here and pretend like Nintendo is doing yeoman's work when in reality, with very few exceptions, the production value of most of their games is that of a mid level indie developer, without the indie level prices! And no, you cannot use the hardware as an excuse! Sony made Uncharted and The Last of Us on hardware like this! Xbox made Halo 3 and Forza on hardware like this! Epic made Gears of War on hardware like this! Bethesda made Skyrim and Fallout on hardware like this! Why is NOBODY calling Nintendo out for purposely putting in such little effort in production quality in so many of their games, yet charging like they're 200 million budget productions??? You guys in the media need to snap out of this love fest and start blasting Nintendo for their bullshit!

@@alexlyster3459They announced two good new things of note Clair Obscur 33 Expedition and FragPunk. Other than that the showcase was a waste of time. They barely showed any significant gameplay for most of their games-most notably Fable, and State of Decay. Even Perfect Dark was chopped up makes me wonder if they were afraid to show it. Nintendo on the other hand not only showed us gameplay AND story, but told us about the games and what we can do in it. Kinda crazy now we don’t care about seeing gameplay at showcase all of a sudden. Guess as long as the graphics look good it’s okay. 🤦♂️ 🤡

Yes, State of Play sucked. Majority of the time all of these smaller directs are usually terrible. So no surprise. That said, Xbox Showcase was still terrible too. Being better than a State of Play ain’t nothing amazing. 😂 Xbox showcase last year was so much better tbh.
