I Ain't No Mathematician, But I Can Count | Sacred Symbols, Episode 313

- Good news emanates from South Korea, where developer Shift Up announced that PS5-exclusive release Stellar Blade has surpassed a million copies sold. To the rational thinking person, this is obviously a great accomplishment for a niche and provocative release on a single platform, and yet there are know-nothings debating its success. Thus, we correct the incorrect while also talking about Stellar Blade's future, including DLC, a PC port, and -- ultimately! -- a sequel. Other news this week includes details for Concord's upcoming closed and open betas, the surprising return of Capcom zombie-killing classic Dead Rising, fresh PSone-era collections for the likes of Fear Effect and Fighting Force, percolating rumors about PlayStation 3 emulation finally coming to PS4 and PS5, and much more. As always, we wrap things up with inquiries from you, the audience. What do we think about a Guerrilla producer's desire to get Aloy in Smash Bros? Is poor media literacy stopping gaming from reaching its true potential? Which random PlayStation 2 games would we like to see ported to modern hardware? If we could go back to the 17th century and permanently scar a peasant child with a video game experience, which one would we choose?

"I'm not gay"
-Dustin furman 😂😂
That's not what Holly says!
That shit was funny.
deffo gay 🤣
Dustin: I got a baby to prove it!
Elden Ring summon users: it's not yours!
How is nobody in these comments talking about that fart Colin pulled off? I cannot believe how clear that was.
How did you not time stamp it?
3:36:08
I was crying and the. For him to ask,“Did you hear that?” It’s like being right under a plane when it breaks the sound barrier and you ask your buddy if he heard that 😂
There’s something adorable about Dusty’s mom taking him to a theme park at this age.
A little condescending but sure
LOL. She didn't take him, she went with him. The subtle but important distinction.😅

He's still on some AEW shows too lol.
"Real syrup fucking sucks" is a Micah level food take
Terrible take. Get that fake crap out of here lol
I have a tall glass of Maple Syrup every morning like a real man.
Right? After switching to the real stuff all that corn syrup I used to eat is so bland and disgusting!
The only acceptable reason to not buy real maple syrup is if you're broke lol
Do an international honeymoon for Gods sake. Don’t gaslight her into not wanting to go. A flight to Germany isn’t as bad as you made it seem. Literally just went there from JFK 2 weeks ago.
Fr especially if he has no problem paying 1st class tickets
My thing with the long flight complaints: do you guys not sit for a few hours on the couch doing nothing for a few hours? Now just do that on a plane....how hard is this? I don't think I've ever been bothered by a long flight. I guess I've never been to Asia/Australia but I've flown between coasts and to Europe. Now the 14 hour car ride from NC to Chicago I did in one day? Kill me
FOR REAL! I’m writing in about this shit this week.
I’ve been to Japan 3 times in the past 4 years and it was a 13 hour flight each time AND i sat in economy like the plebeian I am. It’s NOT THAT BAD… especially nowadays with the Switch being available, the ability to download CZcams videos before the flight, etc.
Also, I’m 6’2 and am NEVER comfortable during flights. The excitement of going somewhere awesome gets you through it. Ffs be an adult lol.

COD4 was made in 2 years by a team of 100 people. Games used to be developed with what is now considered tiny cheap teams. 3 Mass Effect games in 5 years, entire series started and finished in a single generation.

I will not stand for the real maple syrup blasphemy Colin! STAND DOWN SIR!
Are we shocked at this point?
Hearing Colin doubling down on some insanity is 90 percent of the reason I watch.
I stand with colin
@S1X_Bucks Same reason I hate Cracker Barrel, that syrup sucks!
The Getaway remake would be so special. One of my favorite games ever. I’m super nostalgic about it
Agreed. Unfortunately they used licensed vehicles though. So I'd be surprised if we see them again 😕
I hope Chris is prepared to read "The Trix Rabbit's Tentacle Ears" as someone's Patreon name on the Snark Tank this week
We need a life-size cardboard replica of Jim Ryan on Dustin's feed, while he's gone.
Chris "Pigeon Kicker" Raygun
I completely forgot that Colin never changed Eve’s outfit in Stellar Blade. That’s insane to me! That was one of the core components of the game. Lol. And I’m also surprised he didn’t like any other outfits. The yellow Kill Bill looking one was awesome!
I was switching pretty often, but I always kept the same hairstyle and glasses bc they looked too cute
@@Kevxtreme21 Ya I really loved the square Bayonetta glasses. I always had them on. They fit her so well, especially with the short, tomboyish hairstyle.
I had one that I prefer the most which was the orca one and I rotate them a little bit for secundary missions
@@Kevxtreme21I’ve only played the demo but I immediately switched to the shorter default hair because I thought it looked better and wasn’t in the way as much.
Getting new outfits was the driving force behind playing the entire game! lol Colin not changing outfits is like him being rich but only playing on PlayStation. It makes no sense!!
Plz DONT kill knock back. Just do movies or personal topics to keep prep light. Love the purity of bros only chats.
I’m panicking
My favorite show, would be crushed to see it paused
I also don't know what people expected. Psvr1 soled 5M-6M. Why do people expect that a more expensive headset, which pretty much started with en empty catalogue would sell much better?
I keep butter in a covered dish outside the fridge. Never had an issue.
Butter doesn't mold or anything due to the high fat content. It takes many months for it to go rancid.
Salted butter lasts a long time outside the fridge, but unsalted butter may go rancid faster
23:52 replayed this like 15 times in the car this morning. I must've looked like a maniac during rush hour.
Colin needs to stand down on the real maple syrup hate
Unlocking things in Astro Bot won't mean anything more or less to a kid than the outfits in Mario Odyssey
I think even if they don’t understand what something is, they will be curious and look into it further. Genius on PlayStation’s part.
I don’t get the weird astrobot hate from Chris. I think it’s going to do a lot for kids because it allows them to learn about PlayStation history that they have missed.
I like the vastly different answers for the 17th century video game reveal.
Colin: Space
Dustin: Stippers
Chris: Blocks
As someone who's been a Patron supporter for many many years, I can say I support the rotating third chair!
I personally prefer the duo, I feel like a rotating third chair may steal Dustin spot (but maybe he is fine with it). Like it will always remain a rotating third chair.
I'm down for the rotating chair. Didn't hurt at all when they used to do it back in the day.
As someone who has been a Patreon supporter for 2.5 years, I support just the two of them!
I’m in agreement with Colin about guests on podcasts I love. It can sometimes throw off the vibe that I come to the show for.
“Friends Per Second” podcast suffers from this sometimes when they have a friend sit in (since Girard got outed as a fundraiser thief).
One of the issues with PS Plus this month is that two of the games Boarderlands 3 and NHL are both games that sold a bunch and fans of those games already own. This might be a entitlement thing but some of the better PS Plus months are when they include games that are not selling a million copies.
Yeah this is a terrible month
thank god dustin called it out. if i never saw a sports title, a lego title or a niche simulator title ever again on plus essential, thatd be great.
and Among Us is $5....Playstation Plus Essential is WAY overpriced. I don't care about playing online, and the only reason I would get it is because nickel and dime Playstation wants to lock Playstation 5 game save backups to Playstation Plus...$80 a year just to back up my saved games is a ridiculous ask.
Table Syrup over Maple Syrup...horrible take
I agree with Colin, random guests every week wouldn't sit well
Please stop saying niche wrong colin
George 100% runs into a flock of Pigeons and takes one out, after he ran one over earlier in the episode. "We had a deal!"
As soon as Colin said Santa ain’t real I had a flash to all the write ins who say they listen while their kids are around. lol
Doink is not a little person. lol
Dink was
Game dev here, boss rush modes (like done in Sekiro) cost absolutely no money nor effort. The only "expense" here is QA, to make sure the mode works well and without glitches, but that's pretty much it. It's very simple, and I am dumbfounded how no other From games have that mode, at launch or otherwise.
I'm going to be very upset if Colin doesn't start episode 420 with a massive bong hit
Return of the Obra Dinn is a truly excellent game. Highly recommend
3:36:08 - colin has that natural toot boost
Chips in the microwave? Psycho. But my folks kept batteries in the fridge. They said they lasted longer, but I have no evidence of this and refuse to look it up.
Edit: Also Doink the Clown was the full grown man, Dink was his little person partner. Not sure that gimmick lasted long enough for them to swap them out like you said. Again, I’m too lazy to look it up.
1:35:09
I understand Chris' point, but i think of the historical collectibles in 2 ways:
1. Yes it is a nostalgic aspect for those of us who have been with PlayStation for a long time.
2. For those who are younger/newer PlayStation fans, it can be a way to see PlayStations history and maybe even get into some retro gaming via them.
2:07:26 Companies on July 1st
Stellar Blade being considered a sales failure is mostly coming from the usual suspects, the game needs a bad narrative attached to it. I expected it to sell more but, this game had everything stacked against it. It's selling at the same pace as DD2, which ended up selling 2.5M in 3 months. I hope Shift Up, in a sequel, just improve what they got right and fix what they got wrong.
I am here to report to Colin I had the same exact experience he had with cereal growing up. Mom always had it in the fridge to preserve it and then went to friends houses and no one else did that 😂
Metacritic critic reviews are fake. User reviews are the real measure of how good the game is.
You're a real one if you remember Doink the clown going heel and Tugboat turning on Hulk Hogan lol.
Honestly, Stellar Blade was fantastic, so glad it's had the success it has. Definitely in my top 3 games this year. Still waiting for the OST, game's soundtrack is stellar (pun intended.)
Also, I said this on Twitter, but what I wouldn't give for a KOS-MOS game with Stellar Blade's combat/structure.
The thing about waiting to see if the gameplay in Concord is good kind of ignores the idea that as a live service game, this will need a long tail. If people love the gameplay, but think the story is trash, what will give this game that long tail? Great gameplay will get people in the door, but they will tire of it eventually. Fortnite has all of the collaborations to keep people coming back. Destiny as a PvE game has events and raids to keep people coming back. What is going to have people keep coming back to Concord if all they are doing is playing the same gameplay loop over and over again? There are just too many live service games out there to pull people away, or people have already chosen their live service games. They need some sort of hook other than the gameplay to keep people interested in the game. That's assuming that as Colin keeps saying, Sony isn't in the Live Service arena just to sell a decent amount of copies, but they want a once in a lifetime success like Fortnite.
Chris I have to know was the steak house Black Angus? They had delicious brown squaw bread. Best part of going there since the steaks were kinda mediocre
Dustin talking about Abby finishing off Kirby brought me back to when beyond would talk about characters coming to playstation Allstars. Specifically, Jim Mapson and Ethan Mars.
If you’re wanting to get rid of knockback I would consider giving Dagan a movie/animation show if he wants to do something like that. As much as I appreciate Dagan talking about anything there’s a noticeable uptick in passion and expertise when he starts talking animation.
I don't quite get why when ever pretty much all media talks about psvr2 they take out of the equation the vr mode of gt7, resident evil village, resident evil 4 and no man's sky. All of these games are best played on psvr2, in my opinion, and none of these games can be played on any other headset. Still the only game people associate to psvr2 is call of the mountain.
Whipped butter sounds like the least manly thing in the world
That's what I was thinking lol. The manly thing to do is always choose the harder more obtuse option
Chris looking like Todd Howard 😂
On the sugar topic:
You can't have traditional bread without sugar. When making bread from scratch, sugar is used to activate the yeast in the bread to develop the gluten and let it rise. Some people use honey, some use sugar.
Some people opt to use a pinch of sugar in their tomato sauce to help offset some of the acidity. You don't really need it though imo.
i thought colin is observing game industry worldwide, but don't know about japan minimum salary. japanese wages is around 20k annually for entry level. which is why nintendo is not having problem budgetwise, not because they are the best but most of their developer is in japan and in 2 place (kyoto, tokyo).
while other platform studios are scattered worldwide. nintendo method is good because if 1 division flop, and other succeed, they can cover these loses but if your studios is located in multiple countries, cities, you will need different salary and multiple upkeep cost for each studio. sales of games will go to each studio, if it's flop, prepare to layoff and closure. nintendo is lucky, yen is weak (60% weaker than 2017), you get more money from US and europe while your employee salary only up 20% mostly. SIE most successful games are from their US and Europe studio, they will attract talent in those region but with high cost. nintendo, japan, cheap cost, very popular game in japan, easy to get talent.
SIE best studio in japan right now is only PD, they are making lots of profit. only 2% of PS4 player care about games from Japan Studio. Japan never really care about most of game from sie, so you will have a hard time to get talent from japan.
It’s a podcast where Dagon and Collin review OF accounts
First hour of this show never fails man. I have no clue how to describe it but it’s great everytime
Colin is so negative towards VR that he’s reading bullshit articles writing negatively towards it 😂
What source is this? Sony have a ‘PSVR2 division’?
"Real syrup sucks" Man it really is a new bad take within the first hour every week. The cheap syrup tastes so fake and bad to me lol I think Colin just needs to try another kind of "real" syrup. It's just not going to taste like straight sugar like the cheap stuff. Goes great as the sweetener in an old fashioned too! Though I'm sure Colin thinks that is sacrilege as well lol
Yeah, it probably depends on the grade of syrup he tried.
The disguts Colin says Hawk Tuah 💀💀💀💀
Happy weekend everyone!
Holy shit the fact that Colin is SO NEGATIVE that he’s even shitting on the “Huack tuah” meme is too much.
C’mon old man… relax. It’s funny that she answered the question that way and was so ready for it. It’s not that deep.
Is this just him being prude? Contrarian?
I see Colin as someone who doesn t like or wants to be part of whatever is trending or popular 😂 but sometimes Im like that too. I Never watched Game of Thrones because everyone liked it 😅
lol hes just a prick
@@23Amadeus92 chris is like that too, he's quick to jump on the "hardcore gamer" reddit bandwagon and hate on popular stuff. He hates on things like fortnite just because it's the current meme stance online
Holy shit, Dustin hit the nail on the head with the map layering being horrendous in Erdtree! That was my main complaint, the map is almost useless in some cases, it’s borderline unreadable in half the areas
Replace Dustin with Tom Sweeney
It's always funny when Colin randomly decides to run defense for The Last of Us Part II and both Chris & Dustin who we know didn't really enjoy it are just like "yeah..."
Sly Cooper in Smash would be pretty cool
54:01 play some Jose Alfredo Jimenez...or some old trios music, now that I'm in my late 30s, i enjoy the old Spanish music my grandparents listened to.
I downloaded that Minecraft PS5 version and enabled some of the new settings, and it soft-locked my PS5 before I even finished one in-game day. Lmao
Great ep. I'm glad to hear the Dagster will be back 🤘
1:14:00 You have to understand a game is typically in beta LONG before a public beta test, but is technically still in beta at that point.
Really, a public beta test SHOULD be one of the last things you do to tighten the screws before the game goes to print. Many internal play tests, bugfixes, netcode testing is done in beta before the public even gets to sniff its clammy loins.
So we can absolutely still call it a public beta, because thats exactly what it is.
Give me tenchu wrath of heaven ps2.
Amazing game
Slithering ‘n sliding into the weekend with the bois! Have a good one all!
Soy sauce stays fresh tasting in the fridge longer if a bottle lasts you a while
Chris doesn't seem to get the idea that Astro Bot is aimed at two target audiences simultaneously. It should appeal to younger players with its fun and tactile gameplay, colorful visuals and accessible main missions. It's also aimed at older Playstation fans with numerous callbacks to Playstation's history, classic platformer gameplay and more difficult side challenges.
I've heard Colin policing how other people play games. A few episodes ago he criticized people who only played the golden path in FF7 Rebirth for playing it wrong and missing key parts of the game. He insisted that his way of doing everything in the game is the correct way. I don't disagree, but would point out that it seemed hypocritical for him to criticize Souls fans for supposedly policing others similarly.
Never trust oulets early reviews. They have a monetary and accessible vested interest to not talk truthfully! The gamers will decide when it's out
Wow, I didn't know that Still Wakes the Deep was developed by the Chinese room. Dear Esther and Everybody's Gone to the Rapture are fantastic.
Cannot wait for astrobot, I have my physical copy pre-ordered. I can already tell this will be one of the best games of the year. I do agree with Chris, that this full-size game is the one where they should have established Astro's own identity. Rather than referencing beloved PlayStation hallmarks, like Astros playroom.
Chris ,Outback was the one with the brown bread. Used to work there and we'd take a loaf with the honey butter and add brown sugar. That shit is delicious. Kitchen Manager used to charge employees a dollar for bread, just gotta take a couple and take it to the walk in freezer
Shout out to Texas toast. Also putting every loaf of bread in the freezer, except for the one you're using which goes in the fridge. That's the way to go.
My grandmother kept butter out covered in a lid. It was always soft for toast spreading.
Why is Astro's dev a surprise? That's probably most of their studio, they are quite small
I can't wait to hear Chris's opinion on the last boss in. I just just beat him after at least 40 tries... also, i was at newgame +3, btw.
I would play Time Crisis for 5 hours.
I’m all for the rotating third chair
Quote of the year, “Did you hear that?” Collin that is hands down the loudest podcast fart of all time. That would make Kevin smith blush.
Aloy has a sword Dustin? REALLY?
Any PS2 I'd want are the truely stranded ones that have licensed material. The write in mentions AC5 which is licensed, but was re-released as a PS4 port for pre-ordering AC7. Still curious how they pulled that off.. But racing games primarily. Gran Turismos. Dave Miras BMX. Ace Combats.
Bought Everybody's Gone to the Rapture day one, game was gorgeous and almost photorealistic, but I dropped it because you couldn't run even after the R2 button.
You go so slow that it almost penalizes you for exploring which to me was defeating the purpose of the game.
Most of the time I didn't even wander away because I knew it would take me forever to come back.
I'll definitely go back to it one day as I was pumped for that game before it launched and I liked moat of the other walking simulators.
Generally when you make bread from scratch you'll put 1tsp sugar just to help activate the yeast
If its not Dustin plz keep the duo
I do believe the bread Chris is referring to is served at Cheesecake Factory! That stuff is too good. Also, pizza on naan bread is great lol.
Could also be black angus. They had delicious brown squaw bread
I think if playstation wants to get into the ip fighter they should look into a more modern day power stone like approach
Let's get Alter Echo ported over lol. I don't think I ever got to beat it.
PSVR is greatly hindered by its product name as well. You hear PS and immediately think “Oh i need a PlayStation for this” or are greatly impacted by your previous experience with the brand, fan or not. As Sony, i would have completely rebranded this as a separate product, that is capable of being partnered with your PlayStation but its own separate thing as well. I would have called it VRS for Virtual Reality Station or simply The RS for The Reality Station. A reason why Nintendo products work, is its distinction as a product from one another, you get that the DS is different and new compared to the Gameboy or Switch from Wii.
Only 4 and half hours!? What a travesty
Chris' hair looks glorious! He looks like a young Jonathan Taylor Thomas!
In a sense they did try to copy smash brothers; but the tried to differentiate too much by adding their own spin to it. From what I remember it wasn't about smashing/hitting players off a ledge of map. The main game mode was about building meter. The meter let you k.o your opponent. They should have tried the smash bros approach. Most platform fighters do try the knockoff the other player approach by building up percentage and in turn increases knockback scaling. Brawlhalla has good concurrent players considering the ip attached to it.
I'm not opposed for them trying a traditional 2d fighter with a life bar, but I wouldn't say they tried to copy smash brothers. They made a party mode platform fighter with a gimmick that was not too engaging for those interested in platform fighters imo.
Colin SSRI can cause that bad dreams that is just a thought. I thought I’d tell you that some other medication can as well but my recommendation is to stay on them because there’s a reason why they put people on them not everybody needs medication but some people do you may or may not be one of them I don’t know.
iirc Nioh had two or three staggered betas and to their credit changed gameplay for the better. weapon durability was taken out and replaced with weapon familiarity, instead adding to damage stats rather than have weapons break
I think Chris might just be really really good at games and he misses difficulty spikes therefore. He didnt notice it in Elden Ring, and maybe im wrong but he gave Crash 4 a great review without mentioning the poorly executed, harsh difficulty spike towards the end. Meaning he possibly didnt notice that too?
I feel im more of a Colin than a Chris so this stood out to me.
Finished my no summon no cheese run of SotE. Love souls games but these DLC bosses felt very cheap. Was like Sekiro speed level bosses but with dated 2011 DS1 combat. Didn’t fit well together.
“Chef Boyardee’s a date rapist” lol
