- Times, they are a-changin'. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella is rightfully pleased with Xbox's performance on the PlayStation Store, bragging about being the biggest publisher on PSN while presenting Microsoft's recent financial report. His company has seven games in the top 25, more than even Sony itself. So, uh, batten down the hatches, because you're inevitably about to get way more Xbox on PS5. Plus: Fresh leaks show us how Sony's digital games have sold in recent years, Square Enix writes-down $140 million in losses while cancelling multiple games, Take Two guts its Private Division label, Kingdom Hearts promises to horrify in film form, and more. Then: Listener inquiries. Based on recent moves by a rival, would Last Stand Media ever consider going platform-free with all of its content? Which drug from the Fallout universe are we most likely to become addicted to? How can a small indie game garner any attention in such a crowded market? What is it that Chris actually does all day?

Dustin saying Arthur's Sister from the cartoon is named "Double D" made me spit out my coffee LMAO
I thought it was D.W
@@digitalXP13you pronounce W as a D tho, so double D kinda works lol 😆

Actually, this comment is out of touch
@@ToxMod "leave my hubby chris alone!!"
Yeah that was pretty crazy
Wait until they hear that Microsoft shut down Tango and Arkane Austin. Must be the final straw for Uncle Phil.
Kind of hilarious listening to them try to reason Mikami leaving the studio in light of this news just breaking.
Listening to the Tango section knowing what we know now is crazy
"Trophy completion percentage says rebirth is to long" has the exact same completion percent as remake for each final chapters 34%
Chris doesn’t need to pretend to take Fallout drugs, his adderall ramblings are enough.
Chris explaining how he’s busy just sounds like what you do as an 11 year old kid 😂
Yea that entire explanation I was just like what in the world is he even saying right now.

Hate listening to him moan.
This comment was written by an 11-year-old girl Scout.
I still don't know what he does after listening to him explain it...
Dude that fucking doll sitting in the chair behind Dustin gets me every time 💀
Hey Colin, has anybody complained to you about the length of your podcast?
And you told them to skip the topic they don't wanna listen. But they said that's not how they'd listen to podcast. They like to listen to the whole podcast without skipping and then complaining that the podcast being too long and asking you to make it shorter like the old time when you did beyond podcast?
How do those complains make you feel?
I C wut u did thar
We need a supercut of Chris complaining about emails.
Final Fantasy Rebirth is simply too long, who has the time for such a thing? anyway here's this 5 hour podcast.
I don’t understand people who say games are too long, Just play it if you wanna play it, and you’ll finish it if you just so happen to get to the end, If you don’t want to play the game, Don’t play
I ordered one podcast but got five
aka "i wish i could consume this culturally relevant game in an hour."
@@firerock277 Its too long when it’s just fluff fillers. Colin is really trying to say that some important cut scenes were hidden among fluff. In reality, all important cut scenes should be on the Golden Path, and not in some obscure fluff side quest. Also the trophy percentage numbers don’t lie, only 30% of you finished the game.
My issue with rebirth is not the fact that it's too long. It's the fact that I feel like there's not enough in between to keep me going through all the content. The combat is fun but I kind of really miss seven remake. There were a lot more action. Cutscenes that float into gameplay in that game and I enjoyed that as a PlayStation player
Colin goes to Old Country Buffet and eats every single piece of food offered. And because of this he has more knowledge of the Old Country Buffet value proposition than you could ever imagine. "Why would they offer me this food if I'm not meant to eat it? How am I to judge which food is crucial for consumption?"
@@benjaminubben4436 I'm also not listening to Chadley in a buffet line
This is a clear indication of how toxic weebs are. The FF7 story is one of the best stories in gaming history yet you compare it to a cheap buffet to fulfill you contrarian needs. This all checks out.
This is an incredibly awful analogy. Did he buy every item on the menu? Are you served every item on the menu when you go? It’s fine to disagree but come on
He would need it buy the buffet entirely though
Rude is bald, it was Reno with the red hair.
Colin, do you understand how difficult Chadleys combat sims are? There's a reason it's a low percentage. It's incredibly tough to do the late game one like Bonds of Friendship.
His whole trophy argument is bad anyways, remake and rebirth are both sitting at 34% completion of their final chapter. 34% isn't even bad it's widely known people don't finish games.
"Why aren't you depressed? That's so weird" just became my new favourite Sacred quote. ♥️
Dustin - We need a "Why AREN'T you depressed?" T-Shirt, stat.
That sounds depressing🤦🏻♂️
I too applied for McDonalds at 16 and never heard back. Lmfao.
Dude, Stellar Blade is fantastic! I'm loving it. I'm also probably going to go for the Platinum as well. Should have plenty of time before Ghost of Tsushima to get'er done!
I’m thankful that I never cared about trophies/achievements, sometimes it sounds like Colin is torturing himself for trophies 😅
Jurassic Park Trespasser is the most influential game that no one talks about..
Having all that side content in Rebirth felt like a chore, but that was before I unlocked NG+. With the main story no longer looming over me, I'm free to just gradually pick away at only the parts of the game that I actually enjoy, and ignore the rest. I spent 3 solid weeks with that game after it launched, took a break, didn't get burned, so I can go back and play it for an hour or two each week.
It was full of fluff.
@@ToxMod I think it’s fair to say you think it’s full of fluff. My god we hear you 😅. You’re relentless
Colin’s rant on RPG length is absolutely insane. Comparing an open world game to Mad Men makes ZERO sense dude. One is linear storytelling, the other is not. Part of why I love games like Skyrim, Witcher 3, BG3, Elden Ring is knowing that I cannot possibly experience everything the game has to offer in one playthrough. Just chalk it up as a difference in play styles and move on… no need to go attack mode lmao
Half of the content in the new FFVII is OPTIONAL. You do not need to do it lol. That’s like saying if you didn’t collect every different type of herb and animal pelt in RDR2, you didn’t play the game. I really think Colin should reconsider how he’s interacting with games. They’re not checklists, that’s such a sad way of approaching anything fun.
Yes Chris, it's a miracle your plants are not bones :D
The way that open world activities are designed and presented to the player is really important. In some games, optional content is just bunch of question marks on a map, but otherwise isn't tracked in any way and is clearly not important. In other games, optional content feels mandatory because everything appears in your quest log and if you don't do that content, you'll be under leveled. I think that FF7 Rebirth is somewhere in the middle of those extremes.
Chris at 2:03:30 “I’m curious to see what this company will do..”
Xbox announced Tango among others are closed down. Guess you’ll forever be curious lmao thanks Microsoft!!
My thing with final fantasy is the original 7 you didn’t have to do everything to beat the game and in fact, most people never got the ultima materia. So Chadley materia is kinda like that just not as good
Saw Death Cab and Postal Service in Columbus this week. Was a phenomenal show.
Hearing Colin refer to NEO The Worlds Ends with You as a port of the original hurt a bit
I wonder if the Returnal comic news would have been taken better if it was an anime instead of a comic. Something quality like Edgerunners.
57:35
I’m 41 and in the past 6 months or so, my “late night” stamina has practically disappeared. On the other side of that, I get up with ease now before 6 am.
Working out is just getting harder and harder, and sitting back with a coffee and donut is just getting too easy and more tempting by the day.
The logic behind rebirth being too long makes my brain hurt.
The game is full of fluff, check your head because it might be full of fluff as well.
I dropped it, Colin would’ve too if he wasn’t as stubborn
43 year old here. Just tipping my cap to Baseball Stars.
Never forget Shinji Mikami made Vanquish.
Also, as an example of a game creator wanting to get away from what they're known for, Hideo Kojima wanted to stop making Metal Gear games ever since MGS2. He tried multiple times to build a second team devoted to Metal Gear so he could do other stuff.
I'd be so down if Shinji Mikami collabed with Platinum
Bro the Wishbone Time Machine reference was a deep cut and it also messed me up as a kid. 😂
I mean... Who doesn't use all the soap in the bottle? Feeling attacked right now😂
Colin surprised/annoyed doing everything in a game is taking additional time 🤔
I understand where he is coming from as an older gamer.
It's so self inflicted tho. Like lord. Just do what you want and return to the game a year from now and do missions you never did. It's so weird.
Gene Park mainlined the game in 40ish hours and was more than happy and did the side content later.
He should start 90% the games. The last 10% in rpgs is insanely time grindy and hampering the enjoyment unless you wanted more.
@@TheWhitePenny right, but back in 97 as a kid I spent 100 hours on ff7. It wasnt that hard when you are a kid and can play 2-3 hours a day and even 4-5 on the weekends. we cant assume every "gamer" is an adult with kids.
Chris, I was out working on a wooden desk I was building today and thought about you, and when you mentioned, you wished you could do more wood working if you had the space and tools.
I'm happy you're in a more comfortable place in life, and I hope some day you've got that little work shop.
I play games the exact same way as colin but it's definitely not a normal way to play games, it can be draining and honestly detract from the game if you're trying to achieve 100% completion before reaching the credits.
Dustin should really play ICO.. Fumito Ueda is easily the greatest video game designer of all time imo. His games are incredible and the very definition of why video games are art
4:47:50 this made me cry laughing so much on the audio I HAD to come find the video 🤣🤣
Lockmort, when Dustin is gone, put Colin on the right.
No bro……no
I will unsub
Colin, as a big sports gamer I was happy to see you mention Baseball Stars.
It's weird to me how huge Sports games are in the industry, and yet they feel very underrepresented in mainstream discussions.
I always appreciate when you mention them!
Where can I find this episode he talks with the xbox guys about Xbox, I've been skimming the constellation videos but I cannot find it.
Chris said ‘No shot’ at least 6 times this episode lol
The biggest takeaway from this podcast vs others is that it seems we get genuine answers and discussions. It’s not that it’s just a job to get the podcast done for the week. You can’t fake chemistry like this. Thank you for another great pod!
At that angle, it looks like Chris has a Helldivers 2 tattoo lol
Hey congrats Dustin! And a note to any of y'all considering having a kid: As a lifelong gamer, parenthood was daunting as I thought when will I be able to play games lol. But you find the moments to do it still and I cant express the joy I have watching my daughter get into Nintendo and when she asks, Dad can you beat this boss for me? :)
I bet all that Rebirth talk gave Dustin an ulcer.
Even in the dry periods I love having a PlayStation podcast. It kind of makes it feel like we’re all in the trenches together rather than just “Well, Sony isn’t doing anything. What’s Microsoft doing?” I really don’t care that much about Xbox as I do PlayStation but I love the Dukes every week and their passion for the console makes me interested in what they have to say about it. KF seems to just be digging their own grave. All those subscribers they have and their videos do really weak numbers comparatively. Less is more.
For what it's worth, I'm generally more Xbox focused, but find myself listening to SS far more often than the Dukes. Maybe it's because I already know more of the knews they have to share, maybe it's because they're surely lacking a 3 person to encourage more discourse, but I just find myself much more interested by the way Colin, Chris and Distin end up discussing many topics. Even though I frequently disagree with Colin, he always puts thought into his takes (though he could stand to learn a little more for his financial analysis of the big 3 😅), and Chris as well being an Xbox fan at least in terms of Halo and Gears helps make sure there's always balance to any discussion where they come up.
So yes, I too love having this PlayStation podcast for the contrasted opinions and depth they go into. I think Last Stamd would be greatly weakened if they went generalist. Besides, they do have their occasional cross over episodes to we get the best of both worlds!
As for KF, yeah I see what you mean about the lower viewer numbers, though to be fair they put out alot more content, so you have to imagine it adds up? Those numbers being more diluted between videos? They have a pretty different business model, so you have to assume that somehow works better for them.
Using trophy percentage against rebirth is such a bad take. They used trophy percentage back when elden ring came out to discuss how many people were beating it. Guess what chapter 14, 35%, Hoarah Loux, 35%. Uncharted 4 a solely single player quick story experience complete the game 26% on moderate and 33% on light
The funny part about Mikami saying he would cut his head off with a chainsaw, is the enemy that cuts your head off with a chainsaw in the game was cut from all other versions of the game afterwards. I believe the only version that has the chainsaw beheading was the US GameCube release. Due to the sensitivity in Japan.
If you work a trade you don't really ever have to worry about finding or applying for a job ever again. My last couple of jobs I got just by calling the main office of the trade I work in and laying out my experience. Usually I can get an interview that day and start work within the week. Wasn't ever able to do that with my college degree that's for sure
To me, Dustin’s defence of FF7 Rebirth is very contradictory to his thoughts of other open world games
its almost like he makes shit up to go against the flow.
Dustin: Hey Colin, how is that new mexican restaurant near where you live?
Colin: I can't possibly say. I haven't had literally every thing from the menu yet.
This analogy didn’t age well
My intention with every game I play is to do everything BUT for me personally, it’s a huge double edged sword. By trying to do this, I almost always burn myself out on games
The entire "What we're playing" section was nauseating. If you want to 100% a game, then 100% it and stop bitching about the length. Colin started Rebirth late and therefore could have easily seen the hours needed to 100% the game. If he didn't want the time sink he could have made it then. People are telling Colin different ways to play cause everytime he talks about the game, he will literally not shut up about the length. Another peak Colin bitching to bitch moment.
"Bitching to bitch" Ironic that every comment you make on this channel is negative. lol
His stance on this is beyond bothersome though.
Rebirth doesn’t need to be this huge. There’s at least 12 hours they could have trimmed
@@gagagoogoo6085 yeah, its called not 100%-ing it.
@@PlayLaughLogan Didn't Colin got all the trophies for three Spider Man games in a shorter time frame than his current playthrough of Rebirth?
@@MamoMark Idk, probably? What point are you trying to make? None of them are JRPGs 😂
You can also get all the trophies for, like, 200 Jumping Burrito or The Pig P style games for as long as it took to get those 3 Spider-Man games platinum'd.
Colin there is a thriving punk/hardcore/metal scene in Richmond, VA. Pretty legendary scene actually, especially in the world of screamo. Check out the venues OSB, Cobra Cabana, and the Warehouse. The record store Vinyl Conflict should have flyers for upcoming shows.
I started watching LSM because of my boy Brad, and I gotta say Dustin is cool, but hearing Colin and Chris bitch, complain, or brag about how good they are for 5 hours isn't fun. And before someone says stop watching it, don't worry I already stopped.
Dustin don't turn around, Jim Ryan is behind you 👻
Yes Dustin the fishing thing in Stellar Blade was mind numbing. The amount of extra shit you have to do is too much just to get all 25 fish. The maid outfit was ridiculous lmfao
I didn't find it that bad. But I did use a guide.
It's basically all small fish. Can be found in the oasis using small shrimp as bait.
All medium fish can be found in the pond in xion with the next bait up from shrimp.
The the large ones can be found in eidos 7 pond by the clock tower and the pond in the north west of the wastelands.
Then finally if you've done the fishing quests from the quest board, and get the fantastic bait you can get the gianormous fish in the oasis by the guy where you turn in the quest.
The whole thing took be about an hour or so.
And I caught maybe 50 fish total?
Oh and buy the fishing knowledge from the guy to make catching fish easier.
In English: I used strange baits to catch boxes, tires, canned fish, and canned ham in the oasis.
한국말로: 나는 오아시스에서 상자, 타이어, 생선 통조림, 햄 통조림을 잡기 위해 이상한 미끼를 사용했다.
@@DaRkLoRd-rc5yu it wasn't so much the difficulty but just the amount of places you have to go to, plus getting the knowledge and completing the quest with all the awkward fast travelling that added so much more time to it than I think necessary. I got it done but it was incredibly boring
I like that KF and LSM are more differentiated now. The change makes a lot of sense for the current cast of KF and has made the content better imo.
2:06:50 - ironically, "tango gameworks woman" left the studio soon after that
All this Wishbone talk took me back to my early college days of studying Audio Engineering and Commercial Music.
The music director for the Wishbone show (Tim Cissell) was an instructor at the college. Has an Emmy for the show, too. Guy obviously knows his stuff. Good dude, but he was a bit of a hardass in the studio from time to time. I would argue that it just spoke more about his work ethic than anything.
That damn theme song for the show was super catchy..
Is arthur slowly becoming the next seinfeld for the sacred symbols crew?
When it comes to the JRPG length i think Dustin is spot on.
They shouldn’t be compared to books or tv shows (linear experiences). I also think Colin’s comparison to classic JRPGs is flawed; we know for a fact voice over increases dialogue length and most of those classics have very little to no voice acting. Rebirth has an insane amount of dialogue and most the vast vast majority is voice acted.
Stand down, Weeb
There’s literally guides for long running anime to skip filler episodes… Colin was pretty spot on
Good point about how addition of voice acting has increased game play length 🤔👌
Colin with the baseball stars shout out! That game had a franchise/coach mode on the fucking nes. Lots of rpg elements as well, it was an insane sports gem
The cardboard cutout in Dustin's room (Man in the chair) almost made me spit out mu rum and coke just now. I wanted to warn him! I'm tired.
Dustin brings up H.G. Wells' The Time Machine. My first thought is "Oh he's a Better Call Saul fan." Proceeds to talk about Wishbone.
In the early 90s, I was a big fan of Kratt's Kreatures on PBS and I had to suffer through Wishbone before it came on. It was an OK show but it's one of those shows that made me 100% aware I was living in the early 90s as a small child living in the early 90s. If that makes sense.
Cheeky cheeky thumbnail and podcast...very cheeky
I think people remember older JRPGs as longer experiences because back then level grinding was the filler. Newer games like Rebirth replace all that running in circles with more worthwhile content.
I just learned about Wishbone like last week. It rules.
My son is almost 2 and we've been going back to old shows from when I was young and showing them to him because they're like actually wholesome, smartly written shows that don't have a bunch of dumbed down writing or weird inappropriate shit added to them.
I do wonder when they are counting revenue for Helldivers 2 are they counting purchases made in game. I remember ME3 stay at the top of the list for quite some time long after it was released because of purchases made in game. If so, that could be a tad bit misleading.
NPD/Circana excludes in-game purchases
I love that Colin asks Dustin for his opinion on Final Fantasy Rebirth. Dustin gets about 5 words in, and then Colin goes on a 20-minute tirade/diatribe. And Dustin really never gets to actually say anything.
What is Dustin gonna say??? if its Colin’s perspective opinions of the game. Colin said that important cut scenes were hidden among these obscure side quests and that only 30% of you weebs have finished the game, and that sounds about right. Also it was genius when Colin gave the analogy of watching a Netflix series and skipping some of the episodes. Dustin agreed, and there wasn’t anything much more he can say about the matter. Stand down weeb….. stand down
So standard Colin discussion then

i forgive that phone call Colin :)
If they make a comic from a game they should do the rest of the story for The Order 1886.
To weigh in on kinda funny going agnostic on platforms.
I think the biggest thing is the monetisation model. They are finding that the twitch engagement is far stronger and being a livestreamed news show they earn far more money from channel sub scriptions and donations.
And there is far more audience interaction with there always being a live chat in every show.
Also chat will often inform them of breaking news as it happens and it will shift their entire plan for the show on the fly.
Bummer we won't get the prehelldivers thoughts and then the post-sony turn around
This could be more of a mini Konami era for Squeenix.

Almost five hours? Nice! Sacred Symbols is long again!
Why does Colin hate the fishies 😭😭😭
3:30:30 Some of these numbers should have a massive asterisk that physical versions of these exists (Dreams included). Also with Dreams, the game started out with an early access version.
Cardboard Jim made me do a double take
What's going on? Where's the Spotify upload?
1:24:13 I feel Dustin was being nice because to me P.S. I Love You has been pretty terrible for along time. To me Greg has become a every gamers man while the 2 other hosts don't seem to have the knowledge or personality to be a good PS centric show. The Xbox show however wasn't bad, a little fanboyish with a lot of coping but something I'd expect to hear from a dedicated Xbox show. Something PS I Love You seemed to sorely miss. The passion. Kinda funny going a more general route is not what I'm looking for. They will stretch themselves thin lacking even more knowledge or coverage of deep cuts. So for me being overly general will make them even more lackluster.
I have a hard time finding Greg and Tim being genuine as it is, so this move will make me watch them even less.
Chris has all the meat analogies this week

I find it hilarious that what was left of Tango was pushing for multiplatform and it still didn't survive these closings! If we're talking about saving money isn't it more expensive to develop for multiple platforms instead of one. Look at Nintendo!
