    When I was a kid one girl told me my cousin with diabetes was going to die by it when she was going to hit 18. I was so shocked by her audacity to even say it. She actually whispered this to me in front of my cousin the one she was saying will die. When my cousin asked what we were talking about I rather said that it was nothing then to tell her. I can't imagine how horrible it would be to hear this kind of thing.

    something that made me really happy is my parents really pushing for accessibility in our home.
    my mom only casually told me like last year when the topic at hand fit, she never brought it up as if she was some kind of saint.
    so, we built our house when I was a kid, so I have little memory of everything, so I never knew. My parents considered wheelchair users when building, our entire ground floor can be it's own apartment, so there is no issue with stairs. My parents invited a friend in a wheelchair over so he could check the accessibility of everything downstairs, if all the doors are wide enough etc.
    I think that's so cool, if I make disabled friends they can come over and have an easy time moving around and having access!

    • @buggyknox
      @buggyknox Před rokem +8

      Honestly that is just so practical though. Having the means to build your own home its sensible to make it accessible, not just for disabiled friends and family, but on off chance a person living there becomes disabled themselves. It stops having to panic and move house to accomodate. Youre parents sound wonderful

    • @kiwimiwi5452
      @kiwimiwi5452 Před rokem +4

      @@buggyknox my parents also had that in mind as well! my sister and I were already around 7-8 years old when we moved, but they wanted to make sure that in case anything ever happened to us or to them we'd be able to navigate and keep the comfort of our familiar home!
      (we were not born with any physical disability, so it was a possible future-ahead planning)
      since moving my mom got more physical issues and is now disabled, but she can still walk around the house. She only told me in retrospect that especially around summer of this year she felt like she might need a wheelchair to navigate better.
      She did not end up getting/needing one for now, but that can still change in the future.
      I also learned that our downstairs bathroom can be widened if needed! They made one of the walls be one that could be removed with not that much effort and then be relocated
      I love what my parents did there

    I'm really hoping to get a wheelchair soon, but I'm afraid people are going to just stare and judge me because they've seen me walking before. I have trouble talking to people, and I hate being the center of attention.. *☆autism☆.*
    So, naturally, I'm really worried.
    Context: I have a chronic pain disorder(fibromyalgia) that's centered mostly in my legs. It makes it hard to stand and walk for long periods of time, sometimes the longest I can stand is just a minute.

      I also have Autism and have had to use a cane on and off since high school (early onset arthritis pain being one of the major factors.) I've had some very mean/rude people and some stares but the pain relief is sooo worth it!
      What was helpful for me was easing into it and wearing headphones so people are less likely to bug me. I tried just jumping in and got overwhelmed. Did like, around the house, then another day getting the mail, then another day a trip for some milk, till I was using it without thinking.
      Hope it all goes well and hope you do get it soon!
