    Interesting idea welding the bolt heads rather than drilling holes in the angle, can't say I'm a fan of that. Tray mounts need to have some movement as the chassis flexes.

    • @yurok36
      @yurok36 Před 3 lety +3

      Will be no access to those bolts when it’s finished... but you are right it would be better to drill holes but I like welding more then drilling 😁

    • @allan80supra
      @allan80supra Před 3 lety +2

      @@yurok36 U bolts are a common solution, I get the drilling hole PITA thing but I'd be concerned the bolt welds will crack typically at the most inconvenient of times. F series are not known for a stiff chassis czcams.com/video/_f3CAnH7WIM/video.html might want to make sure it's not too close to the cab ether...

    I would use teflon strips to go between frame of truck and bed frame. I would go to a local saw mill and get rough cut 2X6 to lay down on the deck of the truck bed and wrap the outsides of the bed and on the ends and sides of this bed frame assembly which protects the wood plus makes for the stake sides a place to make the pockets of this build. On the headache rack I would do whatever it takes to have the steel drop below the bed frame and have some braces that angle back, and up to the main frame of bed so it can't fold forward and you don't have braces running down to the deck for reinforcement. That way nothing gets in the way of loading or reaching for something on the deck. Also this way is lighter and the weight hauled is not compromised and the wood will give you all the strength that you need. Rough cut lumber if you were to haul some gravel on that bed would shine the deck smooth. Later if diamond deck is the hearts desire, pull the wood an replace with steel or just over the top of it all depending on a cost versus strength thing. So get the teflon strips a quarter inch thick by two or more inches wide the full length of truck bed frame. Don't go crazy till your sure of what it hauls the most and other decisions that come to play. The mud flaps should go to some channel that will have you a piece of metal to bolt to after its welled to that bed frame... use whatever length chain it takes to go down to the flap material. Chain would go to some flat stock so flaps bolt to that on the bottom and the chain hanging down would weld or bolt to that flat stock upper half of flap hanger. Those flaps might just last a while this way as mounted rigid would break off or rip out should tire and flap and whatever you back up to, the flap might just not tear off. I never go real long flaps as it just to me look right. Just and old mans meusing thoughts oh and great build so far.... I know this one got into that pocket book for the engine alone. The back of the cab should take high honor

Save up and go for the diamond plate, painted black.....maybe paint the rear wheel fenders when you end up making them or buying them red or get chromed.

    Just a suggestion use something like a conveyor belt between frame and bed . A little over 1/4 thick and no squeaks or water like woodland it will form over any imperfections on frame rail. This will keep it low and really cinch it down.

  • @trevormiller1366
    @trevormiller1366 Před 3 lety +1

    Bit of timber between the chassis and bed rails. I like how the bolts locate the bed but I'm worried that they will eventually fracture and break due to chassis twisting. Usually truck bodies are held on with U bolts clamping over chassis and rails to allow movement and prevent metal fatigue and fractures. Good to see it out on the road, hope you find a suitable bed floor within budget soon. Something second-hand or timber?

  • @allenpiper1935
    @allenpiper1935 Před 3 lety +1

    You go the the saw mill and get a quote on some 8/4 hardwood yet? I'd guess you could plank that bed with $500 of wood. Add some sealant with a sheen and it would contrast the truck perfectly.

  • @tomswindler64
    @tomswindler64 Před 3 lety +5

    I personally don’t think that wood would be the best fit for the bed rails,have you thought about using 1/2 thick strip of rubber for the rails,as long and wide as rails.just saying,keep doing what your doing,glad to see y’all back on the projects.😎😎😎👍👍👍

    definately not the direction i thought you guys were going with this truck!
    i was thinking more like a sport deck kinda thing for a toy hauler!
    but the work truck deck is good to!
    it will be strong and sturdy!
    i like the narrow design better than the wide one!
    im sure it will look real good once completed!
    i would install a good strong headache rack or the back of that such nice custom cab will get all beat up real quick like that!
    looking forward to seeing the finished product!
    good job! as always!
