bro, you sound like rapper E-40!!
That’s a first 😅😁 🎶
Just picked up my '19 4runner Limited on Friday and already binge watching your videos. Getting tons of ideas that are going to hurt the wallet but that's all part of the fun. Love the videos and the info from you! thank you and take care
I do this for you, for anyone that might need some help with their 4runner .
I appreciate your support!!
Welcome to the channel and most importantly enjoy your New ride!!
Best of luck!
Your channel is coming along. I hope you have tremendous success in the upcoming year. Cheers bud!
🙏🏻 Thank you so much!!
I am trying my best.
So I feel odd man out. I bought a '21 SR5, drive it for a week, took it to ORW, got a 3" lift, Icon Wheels, Toyo tires and nothing else. 3 years later, it's still under stayed and perfect
Excellent information VG. You saved me some money on the "Don't Buys"! Thanks!!!
I’m always happy to help. Thank you for your continuous support!
Bravo! One sensible buy who doesnt just bolt on aftermarket garbage just for the look of it and for show off.
👍🏻 Trying to keep it real for you guys.
I appreciate you!
Awesome video. I've watched 2 of your videos so far and both of them were great. Thank you. I don't want to waste money on cosmetics. Your videos will help with that.
Lol, thank you Sir!!
Welcome to the channel!!
We keep it real over here. 😉
I love this channel! 💯
Thank you!! 🙏🏻🤘🏻
Thanks for another great video!!!!
👍🏻 You got it!
Another great video!
Thank you!!
Always great vids. Thx
Thank you!!
Upgrades I’m getting for the ‘23 40th Anniversary: undercarriage spraying to prevent rust, a hitch mounted bike rack that also works for skis by Thule, hood bug deflector to protect windshield from rocks and the interior covers in the trunk to protect back of seats…I’ve got the all weather mats already.
Sweet choices!!
Enjoy your new truck, thank you for watching!
I wouldn’t get the rubber undercoating. Fluid Film or Woolwax.
In general, I definitely agree with upgrading the lighting, air-intake and suspension and have made those improvements. Because of where I live and enjoy offroad trips (blue & green levels of difficulty) I installed skids, sliders and a 30" light bar in front of the radiator as well as ditch lights. Because I had to remove the front fascia to install the light bar, I also installed heavy-duty recovery points that bolt on to the bottom and sides of the frame. It's beefy. It's red. It's beautiful. I also installed powerful backup lights on the rear fender fascia. Huge improvement! I also installed a RCI roof rack and Wescott Designs ladder. But even with sticking with aluminum skids, steel sliders, aluminum rack and ladder, and sticking with tires that weigh 44 lbs. each (stock size), with the recovery gear, I'm hitting around 500 lbs. of bolt-on stuff and gear. I don't have an aftermarket front bumper and I don't have a rooftop tent. But when I load up for a cross-country trip, or a building material run, I'm hitting an extra 800 - 1,200 lbs. So, now I'm looking at improving my front braking system. I don't know. Maybe I need to join a support group.
Lol, I’m right there with you. The spending never stops. Thank you for sharing, nice mods!
@@VikingsGarage Paul, when do you think it's advisable to upgrade brakes? After what amount of weight has been added? A new video perhaps?
Honestly, if you feel like your putting too much stress on the brakes. Chances are, it’s time to upgrade.
It’s one of those things that it’s never too soon to do it.
TY for the video.
I'll take my advice from the tech! You're the man!😎
🙏🏻
Hey I'm waiting for my Banks PM .. will be selling the Commander . Just for the low speed and reverse options ! And of course the added safety even though i have not experienced any issues. Thanks again for your info !
👏🏻👏🏻 Anytime, you got it!
Again great video!! Thank you for taking the time to point out the good the bad and the ugly so that we can do mods that will look great be also function well too. You talked about the cleaning, oiling and over all maintenance of the performance air intake. Next time you do this maintenance could you do a video so that we can do it correctly?
Absolutely will, it’s super easy to do.
Thank you!
@@VikingsGarage Thank you. I have heard many god things about the air intake but i haven't seen anything on maintaining it.
I got you! 😉
Another awesome video!
Thank you for the detailed reviews. Love your channel. Could you sometime talk about proper wheel lug torquing? We always had our vehicle tires rotated by the Toyota dealership but I suspect they may be using a impact tool. Recently had a flat on the sequoia and I had to use a cheater bar to get the lug nuts loose:(. Also there are two torques listed in the 4Runner manual. Says 76 for aluminum and 85 ft lbs for steel wheels (spare). I have TRD Pro rims like yours. My service advisor said they need torqued to 85ft lbs cause they’re aftermarket even though they are OEM.
I’ll most certainly keep that in mind for a future video. Thank you!!
God Bless you and your family brother! Congrats on your baby girl, true blessing indeed. May I suggest this center console cover also JKCOVER Center Console Armrest Cover. It is cheap and really comfortable. Thanks brother!
🙏🏻 Thank you!
These are modifications I’ve done and have experience with.
But I will look into it.
Appreciate you watching!
Ok, ordered the middle console piece today. Ordered sticky felt liner to add to the container. Then can put in sunglasses and don't have to worry about getting scratched. :D
Very smart!! 👍🏻
One huge comfort modification for tall people is the DDI seat jackets. They make the long drives much easier on the legs!
Amazing how the aftermarket support for these vehicles is so vast. Never heard of it, will look into it. Thank you for sharing!!
Second the desert does it jackers. Huge difference and eased my back pain immensely on long drives.
Noted, will have to look into this being that I’m 6 feet tall. Thank you guys.
Totally agree on the org try - it's a no-brainer. And, I removed the TRD Roof basket on my '21 Pro. This is my second 4runner, and from 2016 until now I have just never used the roof rack. Reduced wind noise, and a few tenths of MPG more on the highway. And, I like the cleaner look.
Right on 👍🏻
Agree and the one for the glove box too!!! Cheap, easy and worth it!!
Absolutely!!
Buy a strap wrench. Cheap, gentle on the stuck object, and can fit a huge variety of sizes and shapes.
I have been binge watching all your 4Runner videos today. I just upgraded to LED headlight bulbs in my 2018 SR5 Premium and love them but have not run them in the winter yet. I live in NH and have read that they don't get warm enough to melt snow off the headlight lenses if you drive while it's snowing. Have you had this problem? Keep up the great content brother!
I have not, being that I live in NJ. Gets cold but not terrible. I’ve never really heard of any complaints with LED. They seem to be an upgrade regardless. Thank you for your support!!
I had led on my sr5 and dont have problem when i go on snow here in the mountains of cali, check my build and help me reach 1k subscriber.. thanks
👍🏻
They offer a console tray organizer with wireless Qi charging built in. Definitely worth it. Might not charge it fast but it still charges.
That sounds worth checking out.
Dealership cracked my plastic oil filter housing twice, and never greased the drivekine. I changed to the aluminum one and service my 4Runner myself now.
I completely understand.
I don’t let anyone else fix my cars. 😉
Thanks for sharing
Your welcome!
Imma modify the organizer tray and say get the top tray that has wireless charging. And with that get a wireless car play adapter, or android auto if you’re heathen that way. Then you just don’t need a cord to run and play. It’s not fast charge but hey it works as it should have been there to begin with.
Awsome 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Metal oil filter housing is automatic upgrade after I broke the tabs that the wrench turns it with on my tundra. When a tab breaks off it can break off deep enough it creates a hole in the housing and will spray oil.
This is true, I have seen it.
But usually if properly torqued you will never run into that issue.
You need Rock Sliders to protect the lower rocker panels and doors as I have gotten trail damage on my truck out hunting ! You still need the glove box dividers also.
I do agree with you on those rock sliders. I’m just afraid the wife won’t be able to climb into it . 😅
I do need that glove box divider, excellent tip.
Thank you!!
So I have rock sliders that I installed on my 4Runner. One day when my wife was getting out of the truck, I noticed she was making an effort to NOT use the slider as a step to help her get out. I asked her why she was avoiding using the slider. She responded that she didn’t know if it was made to do that and was afraid it would break off. I told her that the sliders are meant to take abuse for the full weight of the truck and therefore if it did break after she stepped on it…then there are other conversations we need to be having!!
Great story, it’s funny how in a respectful way they don’t utilize it fully.
My wife was afraid to use the 4wd until I showed her. She loves it now, calls it the Zombie killer!!
My first three upgrades were LED lights all around, the center console tray and a Pedal Commander.
👍🏻
What LED headlights did you go for? I’ve seen such a mixed bag regarding them I’m not sure what to get and if they are the right move.
I’m currently using Boslla led bulbs.
No complaints and you can aim them.
@@SN-qr2uu I've got Lasfit 4Runner specific low beams and Xenon Depot Pro LED high beams with the PMM package so I can run the DRL's without a strobing effect.
Thanks for another video.
Regarding the oil filter housing, the main reason to change them from the plastic to metal housing is ease of removal and install. The plastic housings have much more resistance where the metal housing threads off and on much easier. I switched to a metal housing on my Tundra because I do my own oil changes and the plastic housing was a pain. The metal housing on my wife's Toyota was a breeze. I changed the tundra to metal housing and easy/fast removal and install now. Will be doing the same on our 4runner. So this mod has nothing to do with avoiding damage while driving. Only to do with easy of removal/install during oil changes.
Regarding the shackles, I don't think it's appropriate for you to bag on the manufacturer because you applied them to an incorrect attachment point. The spacers/protective washers that come with that brand, and with other brands, work perfectly when the shackles are used on an appropriate attachment point (which, as you now pointed out, the tie down points of a 4runner are not).
Really love some of the other mods you've pointed out in this and other videos. I'm keeping a running list for when our 4runner arrives.
I appreciate your input. Your sort of right, on the shackles I just know many people spend their hard earned money and it’s almost useless mod.
Thank you for sharing!
@@VikingsGarage 100% agree that it's a waste of money hanging shackles off the 4runner tie down points. My point was these shackles, and other shackles, work great, as do the supplied spacers, when they are used on an actual recovery point as intended. Only mentioning that because you implied the spacers were worthless, so I wanted for viewers to understand they work as intended when used as intended on aftermarket bumper recovery points, receiver hitch recovery point, etc. (vs. used on factory tie down points).
Fair!!
Have the 21. LED Lows and Fogs, fckN love them. Oncoming traffic hates them :😅
Have the center console organizer. Works good. Did in my Toyota Van also.
Have the HF basket. Hate the look of it, haven't used it. Have the HF cross bars. Windy as heck and not the most visual looking on this ride. Work great though, had my Kayaks on them(with kayak holders)
Amazon LED inside lights swap. Way better...
Appreciate you sharing!
I should have done that Amazon led inside light swap instead of buying all leds separately like I did. 🤷🏼♂️
Why would you be proud about blinding other drivers? I have a 2022 4runner that came with low and high beam led head lights and led fog lights. In the day time I only use the daytime running lights to be polite to other drivers as they're not as bright as the low beam leds, and I never use the fog lights unless it's foggy out. Headlights are actually supposed to be a balance of what the driver needs to see without blinding others ability to see. Leds are actually too bright in favor of the driver and not the other cars.
@@dalefrolander3583 so proud of blinding people. Every day, I look forward to it. Like fck everyone else and your out dated candles for light!!!
I guess that's what you think when I put a simple laughing 😃 emoji in my original comment.
Look these LED lights are bright as heck, great for me, sh1tty for everyone else. Think the laughing was because I get flashed all the time, it's just the way it is. It came new that way. Yeah I run my lights, always. Guess that's a trucker thing for me. !!!! Make yourself seen!!!!
I run my Fogs because the smarter drivers should know, Unless modified, stock Fogs only work when Lows are on.
Even with LED highlights, I would like more illumination at light. I'm thinking of adding auxiliary driving lights on the grill guard.
Why not as long as it’s pointed at the road right 😉
If you not in the 4Runner groups on Facebook you gotta get on them!
Honestly I think I might be, I’ll make sure to get in there more. 👍🏻 I appreciate you
Awesome video! So I need led interior lights! What are some good ones I can get?
Check the folks at Boslla.
I would suggest honorable mentions: Hood Bug Deflector and window rain vents
Unfortunately I’m only covering modifications I’ve done to my own truck, but those are some really good ones, Thank you, I appreciate you watching!
I agree. Love my bug deflector. I’ve seen it work as the bugs get pushed up from the draft. Also helps protect from small rocks at highway speeds.
Toyota needs to make a cooler looking gear shift stubby transfer case knob. There are nice ones on Ebay but they must be adapted to fit the shaft size.
I do agree with you Sir. There’s definitely some aftermarket alternatives out there.
Don't do what I did - stainless steel screws for the rear license plates. The dissimilar metals started corroding the threaded whatevers behind. Switched to plastic metric screws bought at McMaster. Personal opinion, you don't any license plate trim. Bought some LED interior bulbs off of eBay, and the dome light was just wrong. Then bought another dome, again wrong. Ended up getting one at Xenon Depot, but it was not cheap. I don't remember having any problems with LED tail gate bulbs for a 2013.
Black trim on the +50hp functional (jk) air inlet looks sharp.
😆 Thank you for sharing!! I appreciate you watching!
I recently replaced my Bilstein 5100s with the updated TRD Pro Fox units with the Westscott lift and love the softer ride. I got 2" front lift using the Westscott preload collar and no top spacer. 3" with the top spacer.
Unfortunately, the driver side rear shock makes a sucking/squishing noise with every little bump. I can only hear the noise at low speed with the windows down. Do your rear shocks make a similar noise?
I heard lots of good things about Westscott lifts. No noises hear here. Love my suspension setup.
Thank you for sharing!
this guy sounds awesome! Sometimes he sounds like Christopher Walken. 😊 Does anybody know where to get the heritage grill kit that does NOT have the dimples for the letters on the overlay cover trim part? I want that piece to be completely smooth.
Check out 4Runnerlifestyle.com they got that piece I believe.
I appreciate you!! 😅
@@VikingsGarage NICE!!! Thanks x1000000000000
@kmzoilus2486 👍🏻
Another downside of the roof rack is that many car washes won’t let you go through them.
Excellent point!!
What are your thoughts on the Nfab roof rack? Out of your do’s and donts thats the only donts I have done but I chose the nfab cause it seems more low profile and less of a basket look.
That’s actually not such a bad option, a little pricey but what isn’t nowadays. 👍🏻
Hi, thanks for the video! I want to but the lift gate pull strap but is it hard to install?
Super simple, one 10mm screw holding it. There’s not much to it.
I show you how to do it in the following video:
czcams.com/video/DXdnnRvd9Hs/video.html
😉
You may want to consider some trail driving content.
I’m most certainly working on it, just got to find The trails 🤣🤣
I do live in NJ, no trails here.
But I’m on it, thank you for the tip.
I bet this guy does a hell of a Christopher Walken impression.
🤣😅
I’ve got the later version of the trd pro shocks and they really are worth it all day…. But I can’t find any parts lists or service notes for when they’ll need rebuilding. All good performance suspension needs rebuilding at some point.
No rebuilding that I’m aware. Replace when worn. 😉
With the TRD pro suspension do you get the 1" front level the TRD pro gets? I just want the front level, and better ride over bumps. If not may go KING.
TRD pro suspension will not fully correct that. KING is a great option
Ive actually seen the plastic filter housings leak after the tabs were broken off. Not when the car was in there, but it started leaking afterwards from the housing itself.
In that case me personally would no longer trust the housing and replace it immediately. But I do appreciate you sharing that very important point.
@@VikingsGarage 1000% I wouldn't trust it. I'm also a Tech (which is why I enjoy your videos) and the amount of these i've seen come in with the tabs broken off from people either using the wrong tools or having to loosen them after someone put them on wayyy too tight is kinda frightening. But luckily i've only seen the housing leak once from this damage.
@FBobby Right on! 🤘🏻
I’ve broken quite a few myself on the way out, for that same reason.
I appreciate your support!
@@VikingsGarage im picking up my first 4runner on Wed. I've already got lists of do's and don'ts from your videos.
@FBobby 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Congratulations, you’re going to love it!
Yeah I got myself a roof rails and roof rack for my lifted xB. So I’m expecting roof noise to see how annoying.
And mpg affect🤣🤣🤣🤣 will see how it goes.
Lol 😂
where can i get the TRAIL badge on you rear lift door?
Found it somewhere on Etsy, can’t remember exactly the vendors name.
Wanted that rear gate strap but my 4runner limited has no mount for strap?
You got the premium sound, that’s why.
Have to disagree with your thumbs down on the roof basket. We bought a Yakima Load Warrior a couple years after we bought our '99 SR5 4Runner. It has been the only way to get enough crap in the vehicle with 3 people and a dog for countless camping/road trips. Unless you need it year round, you just have to remember to take it off in the winter. Also guessing Yakima uses better paint than cheaper manufacturers.
Totally agree though on the console tray...seriously, WTH was Toyota thinking?? The tray was super cheap, and this just makes it look like Toyota is dissing 4Runner buyers on purpose!
BTW, I have always wondered where your accent comes from, can't quite nail it down.
Portuguese 😉👍🏻
😎👍
Im going to buy a 4runner, should I wait until the next gen, or buy the current one? Any thoughts?
If you want my honest opinion…
Current one all day. 🤷🏼♂️
Stock 22' SR5 4x4 with a humming from the front driver side. I can feel it in the steering and floor. Got any ideas? Seems like I feel it the most around 40 to 50 mph. Thanks
Hard to diagnose a car this way. Wheel bearing, maybe 🤷🏼♂️
check tire balance
@@carplay5454 I have checked tire balance and pressure. It appears to be the needle bearing issue because the noise will stop if I engage the 4wd. Its very subtle but you can hear / feel it the most around 40 mph. Thanks
@@AE821 that sucks. especially on a new car
@@carplay5454 That’s what I think too!
Explain why my brand new 4x4 runner V6 2022 takes very long time to warm up and why doesn't the side mirrors have defrost?
It's a premium 3row seats?
Im not entirely sure, as to what’s to long for you as far as the warm up issue . (2022 I’m sure it’s running fine)
Your side mirrors defrost button it’s in the center, it’s the same button as the back window defrost.
Side note: Make sure the back window is up all the way otherwise the defrost won’t work. 😉
I freeze in cold mornings?
glove box organizer
Where did u get that black trail badge
Excellent question, got it so long ago. Can’t remember!!
It was definitely in ETSY
What led headlights do you recommend
There’s a few good brands out there, I left a link in the description.
Did the trd intake system gave any mpg improvements?
None noticeable.
2023 4 runners come with LED headlights
Yes they do. Like I said 2021 and forward or I quote my own words “ if you have a 2020 or older 5th Gen, then you need this mod” 😉
I wish you were my friend.
🙏🏻 Appreciate you!!
He sounds a bit like Christopher Walken
Lol, that’s the second time I hear that. I swear I’m not trying to sound like him. I’ll take it it as a compliment 😉😀
@@VikingsGarage Its def a compliment.Im 5th gen shopping today.Your videos def showed me what to look for.Cheers
👏🏻👏🏻 good luck my friend!! You got this.
There are videos stating the Toyota 4 Runner should NEVER get a lift kit as the vehicle purely wasn't designed to handle the stress on the wheels. You will bust your differentials and other parts with a lift kit. Don't do it. One more note, there isn't much difference between the basic model and the TRD Pro, all the parts of the TRD Pro can actually be bought and added to the basic model for far less money than buying the Pro. I for one don't like leather seats, it's not an option with the Pro, lol, you're getting the leather, whether you want it or not. Not to mention the hood scoop, I'm not a big fan of fake shit, if it had a purpose I love them, but's it's a fake. Did I see a leaked photo of the Gen6 4-runner with a snorkel on the driver's side? Bad enough Toyota is doing away with the greatest engine ever built. My guess is the 2024 4-runner will be the last great vehicle ever built. BTW, did Toyota ever fix the rust issue on the paint job on these 4-runners? If you buy a 4-Runner, have the underbody coated with anti-rust paint. 4 Runners are meant to be bought and kept for 20 years. Do the oil changes every 5k miles, it will last longer than you will.
So if 4runners are bulletproof and indestructible as most claim, including AMD from The Car Care Nut channel & Scotty Kilmer, why were you working on thousands and thousands of them? I'm confused.
Maintenance work my friend!! 😉
They are bulletproof but at the end still need basic maintenance. 😂
@VikingsGarage I kinda figured that. Just wanted to see if you'll reply. 👊🙃
Great video! 👍
The engine is bulletproof, everything else with high miles will need maintenance
That last buy should be avoid for non-TRDPRO owners. Posers… 😂
Suum cuique! 😉
